    Analysis of direct CP violation in B−→D0Ds−,D0D−B^- \to D^0 D_s^-, D^0 D^- decays

    We investigate the possibility of observing the direct CP violation in the decay modes B−→D0Ds−B^- \to D^0 D_s^- and D0D−D^0 D^- within the Standard Model. Including the contributions arising from the tree, annihilation, QCD as well as electroweak penguins with both time- and space-like components, we find that the direct CP asymmetry in B−→D0Ds−B^- \to D^0 D_s^- is very small ∼0.2\sim 0.2 % but in B−→D0D−B^- \to D^0 D^- decay it can be as large as 4%. Approximately 10710^7 charged BB mesons are required to experimentally observe the CP asymmetry parameter for the later case. Since this is easily accessible with the currently running B factories, the decay mode B−→D0D−B^- \to D^0 D^- may be pursued to look for CP violation.Comment: Latex, 14 page

    STUDY ON AVAILABILITY AND AFFORDABILITY OF ANTI HYPERTENSIVE MEDICINES IN THE STATE OF KERALA

    Objective: Since the 1970s, one of the smallest Indian States, Kerala, has been internationally applauded for its excellent performance in its health indicators. Even if mortality is low, the morbidity (those suffering from chronic/non-communicable diseases) levels in urban and rural is high in Kerala compared to other Indian states. Gradually, the public sector becomes incapable to convene the demands for health care and people have responded to this meagerness by increasing the use of an emerging private sector. To overcome this scenario, Kerala government established KMSCL for promoting access to medicines to the patients approaching the public hospitals in Kerala by making available selected essential medicines at free of cost. The present study was conducted to evaluate the availability, cost and affordability of anti-hypertensive medicines in Kerala. Methods: This prospective, observational study was conducted in Trivandrum district in Kerala, from June 2013 to November 2013. Three types of medication prices were taken into contemplation with the intension for calculation purposes, the highest and the lowest branded medication costs in private pharmacy and Karunya Community Pharmacy (KCP) prices. Affordability was calculated for the different level of skilled workers and through the wages fixed by the government of Kerala for these categories, who were consuming the medications at the time. A comparison was also done between various treatment guidelines of hypertension. Results: There was 15.5% to 230% price variation between the highest and lowest price of branded anti-hypertensive medicines respectively. For treating Stage 3 of hypertension; unskilled and highly skilled workers had to spend a minimum of 1.22 and 0.84 wage days respectively and a maximum of 5.23 and 4.34 wage days respectively in private pharmacies. All the medicines required for the treatments of hypertension were available in both private and KCP. Conclusion: The study revealed that there was an average availability at of antihypertensive medicines in public health facilities. The availability of all medicines at KCP in low price shows the good impact of KMSCL for promoting access of medicines to the poor

    A study on abuse of topical corticosteroids in patients who attended dermatology venerology leprosy outpatient department

    Background: Topical corticosteroids (TCs) are widely used in the patients affected with dermatoses. Abuse of these agents may cause severe adverse effects. Aim of the study was to study the abuse of TCs in patient who attend Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprosy (DVL) outpatient department. Methods: This prospective observational study was conducted in department of DVL at Rajah Muthiah Medical college, Tamil Nadu during the period of six months from November 2018 to April 2019. The patients were enrolled for the study based on inclusion and exclusion criteria.Results: Totally 50 patients with adverse drug reactions (ADRs) by the abuse of TCs were enrolled for the study. It was found that TCs were abused in all ages and equally in both genders. Nearly 72% of the people used TCs for Tinea infection and 20% of the people used TCs for acne vulgaris. Very high potent TCs such as betamethasone and beclomethasone were abused by 55% of the patient. Tinea incognito (TI) was found as common ADRs by the abuse of TCs (74%). Nearly 88% of the people bought TCs from pharmacies without prescription. Sixteen brands were found as easily accessible and affordable for the patients. Medication adherence were increased by 60% after the patient counselling.Conclusion: This study concludes, TI was found as a common ADR in patients who abused TCs such as betamethasone, beclomethasone and clobetasol. High potent TCs should not be allowed to dispense without prescription. Withdrawal of TCs will reduce the risk of ADRs

    Indian railway track analysis for displacement and vibration pattern estimation

    This paper presents the dynamic response of the Indian Railway track. Two track models are considered for the dynamic response in terms of vertical displacement and acceleration at different wheel speeds, keeping the moving point load at constant magnitude. The rail is treated as a beam either on viscoelastic foundation or on the discrete elastic support system. The governing equation is implemented in finite element analysis using ANSYS 14.0. For the validation of result from system equation are compared with those available in published literature and the maximum deviation for displacement at the midpoint of rail is found to be within 5 %. Different wheel speed generates variation in displacement and acceleration of the rail track. The study can be viewed as the foundation for the comparison of FEA based simulation of rail track to specify its dynamic response useful to provide better safety and comfort to commuters

Computerized software is assisting in identifying human feelings such as happiness, sadness, anger, fear, disgust, etc. Over the decades, various research has been carried on the facial expression and emotion recognition. Emotion detection has extended applications. It is not merely related to any specific field nut instead the approach ranges from communication, advertising to hospital requisition and many more. To exist collective mechanisms through which we can accomplish the process of facial emotion recognition. In this paper we are using Convolutional Neural Network for the implementation. Upon exploring numerous datasets for the procedure of experiment we have chosen to go with Kaggle dataset

    Effect of FCNC mediated Z boson on lepton flavor violating decays

    We study the three body lepton flavor violating (LFV) decays μ−→e−e+e−\mu^- \to e^- e^+ e^-, τ−→li−lj+lj−\tau^- \to l_i^- l_j^+ l_j^- and the semileptonic decay τ→μϕ\tau \to \mu \phi in the flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) mediated ZZ boson model. We also calculate the branching ratios for LFV leptonic B decays, Bd,s→μeB_{d,s} \to \mu e, Bd,s→τeB_{d,s} \to \tau e, Bd,s→τμB_{d,s} \to \tau \mu and the conversion of muon to electron in Ti nucleus. The new physics parameter space is constrained by using the experimental limits on μ−→e−e+e−\mu^- \to e^- e^+ e^- and τ−→μ−μ+μ−\tau^- \to \mu^- \mu^+ \mu^-. We find that the branching ratios for τ→eee\tau \to eee and τ→μϕ\tau \to \mu \phi processes could be as large as ∼O(10−8)\sim {\cal O}(10^{-8}) and BrBd,s→τμ,τe)∼O(10−10){\rm Br}B_{d,s} \to \tau \mu, \tau e) \sim {\cal O}(10^{-10}). For other LFV B decays the branching ratios are found to be too small to be observed in the near future.Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures, typos corrected, one more section added, version to appear in EPJ

    Characterization and its implication on beneficiation of low grade iron ore by gravity separation

    Studies were undertaken on low grade iron ore sample from Noamundi iron ore mines. The objective of this study was to examine the possibility of the physical beneficiation of low grade iron ore sample by physical methods for the blast furnace route of iron production. The present investigation relies on petrography and ore mineralogical characterization, ore textures (primary, secondary, metamorphic), liberation characters and its impact on the mineral beneficiation methods to produce quality concentrate. The geological characters, alteration mineralogy, morphometric variation, ore microscopy (using model microscope with transmitted and reflected light) and thereby understanding the genesis has given proper insight into the occurrence of various minerals. In addition to this, representative samples were employed for detailed investigation by using XRD, SEM-EDS and cathodoluminescence (CL) studies for confirmation of major as well as minor ore minerals and associated gangue minerals. Investigations suggest that lateritic iron ore samples obtained from the study area are composed of hematite (two generations), goethite (two generations) and limonitic material (younger generation) in association with major gangue minerals such as clay minerals (kaolinite, illite), bauxitic minerals(gibbsite, boehmite and diaspore), cryptocrystalline silica(japer, chert) and crystalline quartz as well as apatite and collophane. Fair liberation obtained below 74 micron size. It was interesting to find that inspite of the complex mineralogy of iron ore, beneficiation results using gravity separation like multi gravity separator (MGS), particularly in finer size ranges was encouraging. The result of ore-gangue mineralogical studies were found quite useful in evaluating the separation efficacy of gravity separation process. The process mineralogical data corroborated well with beneficiation results
