Introduction: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of social capital on the emotional-cognitive readiness of faculty members for scientific collaborations with the presence of a mediation of psychological capital. Methods: This practical research was conducted in an analytic-survey method. The statistical population consisted of all faculty members of two medical universities in Iran (709 people), and the sample size is calculated to be 250 people. The stratified and random sampling method was used. All data for this study were collected using three standard questionnaires: (a) Nahapiet and Ghoshal's social capital questionnaire, (b) emotional-cognitive readiness questionnaire, and (c) Lathan's psychological capital questionnaire. The Kolmogorov–Smirnov test was used to check the normality of data distribution. Spearman correlation and Structural equation modelling (SEM) were used to analyze and test hypotheses using PLS 3 and SPSS version 25. Results: The results showed that social capital and psychological capital and their dimensions affect cognitive-emotional readiness for scientific collaboration. Also, the findings indicate that the level or the degree at which social capital alone contributes to cognitive-emotional readiness is weaker than when it is mediated by psychological capital. Conclusion: Through the creation and development of social and psychological capital, university administrators can gradually create a common language and, as a result, common insight among faculty members to provide the basis for more scientific collaboration

Does Phenytoin Improve the Healing of Gastrointestinal Fistulas?

    Get PDF
Pancreatic fistulas are among the most devastating complications after pancreatic surgery. Their subsequent development can be lethal. We report two cases of pancreatic fistulas treated with phenytoin. Fistula tract healing consists of several processes, including cell migration and the formation of a new extracellular matrix. Multiple studies have shown that phenytoin can promote wound healing and induce faster fibrosis. We postulate that such a positive effect can be used to enhance fibrosis of the pancreatic fistula tract. We treated two patients who had developed high-output pancreatic fistulas after pancreatic surgery. The first underwent hand-assisted laparoscopic pancreatic necrosectomy and developed two high-output pancreatic fistulas and a colocutaneous fistula. The second occurred post Whipple surgery. Both were given oral phenytoin after failure to respond to other measures. In conclusion, oral phenytoin may have a positive effect in the treatment of fistulas. Prospective studies are needed to indicate this possible effect of phenytoin on fistula healing

The distribution of public services from the perspective of spatial equality

One of the most prominent consequences of rapid urbanization has recently been the disintegrated distribution of municipal services which predisposes inequality in citizens' benefiting from these services. Therefore, the city planners and managers' main goal must be to achieve the ideal of 'equality of opportunities' to help different groups of urban population have access to public services and eliminate conflicts in the provision of opportunities. In the present descriptive-analytical study, after specifying the indicators, ten regions of Tabriz are ranked in terms of the distribution of municipal services using three different methods (per capita land use, accessibility and residents' idea) and action priorities are presented for each region. The results of this study show that Tabriz has an inappropriate spatial distribution of public services and the population is incompatible with the distribution of services. Region 8 is in a good condition compared to the other while region 7 and 9 has a poor distribution of public services

Introduction: The kidney regulates sodium balance and is the principal site of sodium excretion. Sodium is unique among electrolytes because water balance, not sodium balance, usually determines its concentration. Although water balance is usually regulated by osmolality, volume depletion stimulates thirst, renal protection of water and ADH secretion. Volume reduction has priority over osmolality; volume depletion stimulates ADH secretion, even if a patient has hyponatremia. The aim of this study was to consider scar nephropathy in children with UTI and hyponatremia and compare it with children without hyponatremia.Material and Methods: 200 children with pyelonephritis were included in this case–control study as case and control groups, respectively. Subjects were selected from children referred to the pediatric clinic of our hospital in Arak, Iran. Case group included children with hyponatremia and UTI (with VUR) and control group included children with UTI (With VUR) and normal serum sodium. Data was analyzed using SPSS ver.18Results: Among 200 (100%) children in both groups, 5 children (5%) had normal sodium and reflux nephropathy and 23 children had hyponatremia and reflux nephropathy. Conclusions: Hyponatremia in children with reflux nephropathy was significantly more common than children without reflux nephropathy. The observed correlation between reflux-related injury and hyponatremia necessitates evaluation of electrolytes in children with pyelonephritis. Keywords: Pyelonephritis; Child; Hyponatremia; Vesico-Ureteral Reflux
