Flipped learning in ESL classrooms
The 21st century brings about unprecedented changes to society and how the education process takes effect in schools. the implementation of digital technology brings about a plethora of strategies and approaches to teaching with the aid of technology. The flipped learning approach is one of these approaches gaining momentum in the education scenario. Due to its students and learning centric nature of execution. This comes at a time when technology is in the very heart of the Malaysian Educational policies, seen in the implementation of the Malaysian Education Blueprint. With this in mind, the is a void in a standard framework in implementing the Flipped learning approach. This book tends to the establishment of a framework for the approach in an ESL context. Thus, providing ESL practitioners and educators a framework in how to implement the Flipped Learning approach effectively. Flipped Learning in ESL Classrooms provides an in-depth discussion of the theoretical background and previous research on the Flipped Learning approach. These discussions lead to the establishment of the constructs of the frameworks for the approach in the ESL context. It is hoped this book will shed light on the practical implications of the approach as well as providing a standard guide for those who wish to implement the approach in the teaching of English in a second language environment

Questioning strategy in process writing approach : Evidence for idea extension in introductory paragraph
Many students at the tertiary level find it hard to have ideas in the introductory paragraph. One way to overcome that issue is by applying a questioning strategy. The convergent parallel design of qualitative and quantitative methods is adopted to collect data through a need assessment survey, diagnostic tests, and face-to-face interviews. Process writing activities were designed after the needs assessment survey findings, and pre-test scores showed the necessity to introduce the questioning strategy to the experimental group. On the other hand, the control group was formed to contrast the strategy with free writing activities. Tests scores of the two groups after 18 weeks of the writing process activities were compared using Klimova’s (2014) writing assessment criteria. The scores of diagnostic pre and post-tests on ideas extension showed that most of the experimental students’ scores were better than those in the control group. The questioning strategy in the process writing approach improved the students’ ideas for the introductory paragraph compared to free process writing. The strategy’s effectiveness could be extended to help students develop ideas and organise content paragraphs

Mastery of English oral communication skills is an advantage to employees in their workplaces. In the engineering industry, professional engineers possessing English oral communication skills are at an advantage; either for executing daily tasks or for promotion and career advancement. This paper aims to conceptualize and highlight the communicative events whereby engineers need to have a set of appropriate English communication skills in order to function well in their workplaces. At the same time, this poses great challenges for English language educators in the Malaysian Higher institutions whereby they must train and equip engineering undergraduates with adequate English communication skills in order for them to function effectively in their future engineering workplaces and to tackle the issue of graduate unemployment as a result of lack of English communication skills
Strategic development of flipped framework on educators and learning constructs for ESL context: the experts’ agreement
The flip learning approach has been accepted by numerous studies as a strategic approach in implementing technological-based classroom environments. Concurrently, Ministry of Education Malaysia is introducing the national educational blueprint for higher education with the focus on heavy investment in developing Blended learning environments at tertiary institutions. This poses a conundrum of how best to implement such environments effectively. Hence, much researches needed to be empirically done to prove the effectiveness of a specific Blended learning approach for an ESL context. This paper aims to ascertain the required constructs in developing a framework for flipped learning in an ESL environment. The study utilized Fuzzy Delphi method to gather and analyze viewpoints of 18 experts from the relevant fields. An online questionnaire was developed to gather the experts’ agreement towards four educators and learning related constructs namely ‘Flexible Environments’; ‘Shift in Learning Culture’; ‘Intentional Content’; ‘Professional Educators’; and 42 items gathered from the literature. The FDM analysis rejected six of the items; finalizing the framework with 36 items. The framework is beneficial to ESL educators, learners and developers of technology-based learning method
The Development of Technical English Multimedia Interactive Module to Enhance Student Centred Learning (SCL)
Based from the definition found in Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English (Second Impression; 2006), technique can be defined as a special way of doing something whereas technology is referring to new machines, equipment and ways of doing things that are based on modern knowledge about science and computers. Therefore, in teaching and learning processes, technique and technology cannot be apart from each other as both complete the circle of education.
In discussing about the usage of technology in delivering the knowledge and information, we can never run from the reality of integrating it into the traditional method, from textbooks and teachers to a more diverse type especially in the learning materials as in recent case, educators are keen on using the latest invention and innovation in their classroom. This is maybe because it will make their tasks easier or they wanted to be in the wave of technologies era or even they believe that such things benefits the students in terms of gaining their understanding in the subject taught.
This is the reason why such research is to be conducted in order to make sure that the focus of the teaching and learning processes is now on students whereby the traditional method of using module or book will be replaced by courseware so that it can be more attractive in the sense of students’ acceptance. Besides that, by producing our own courseware, it is hoped that we have answered the call of preserving our nature by using material that is not made from tree and such apart from entering the new phase of integrating technologies in teaching and learning
The Practicality of AsarFonts for Islamic and Arabic Studies
Most of todayâs writing tools are designed to accommodate multiple language features in a single document; unfortunately the features are not thoroughly implemented in Islamic and Arabic studies. This paper proposes a solution to overcome such problem by the invention of AsarFonts. It is a single font set that consists of some standard fonts that are used in the studies. The fonts are Times New Roman font with all standard Arabic Romanization letters and Traditional Arabic font with additional of six JÄwÄ« letters. AsarFonts also comes with English -Arabic Romanization keyboard layout namely as AsarEN and Arabic-JÄwÄ« QWERTY keyboard layout known as AsarAR; both are the first in the world. Through the invention of AsarFonts, the complicated process in writing academic articles in
Islamic and Arabic studies should be eliminated, or at least it can be reduced to a minimum level
