The effect of tree litters on rice yield (cv. BR11) was evaluated in the study. Four kinds of tree litter, i.e., ipil-ipil or lamtoro (Leucaena leucocephala (Lamk) De Witt), sissoo (Dalbergia sissoo), akashmoni (Acacia auriculiformis) and mander (Erythrina orientalis) were incorporated into the soil 15 days before transplanting at rate of 5 ton/ha supplemented with inorganic fertilizers (83 kg N, 48 kg P205Ā, 42 kg K20, 10 kg S and 3.6 kg Zn/ha). In the control plots only recommended inorganic fertilizer were applied. Results showed that tree litter application had a significantly positive effect on the yield parameters such as plant height, panicle length, tillers per hill, filled grain and index of 1000-grain weight. Grain yield of plots treated with ipil-ipil, sissoo, akashmoni and mander was 5.61, 4.49, 4.95 and 5.36 ton/ha, and the yield increased over control plots 39.6, 11.7, 23.1 and 33.3%, respectively. It is worthy to note that addition of tree litter to inorganic fertilizer produced significantly higher yield than inorganic fertilizers solely. Among the tree litter, ipil-ipil and mander had the greatest increase in rice yield, while akashmoni was intermediate and sissoo was the least

The study examined the factors influencing yearly consumption of turkey meat in Mymensingh city area. Data were collected from 60 consumers of turkey meat through Purposive sampling technique and face to face interview. Dummy coding was applied to code independent variables which were categorical in nature and multiple linear regression was carried out to find out the factors influencing consumption of turkey meat. Result indicated that the majority of the consumers (more than 50%) favored taste, color and aroma of turkey meat. The findings also revealed that age (P<0.05) and monthly family income (P<0.01) were significantly influencing yearly consumption of turkey meat among consumers in Mymensingh city. The major difficulty faced by the turkey farmer recognized as unavailability of turkey feed in the market, high price of day-old chick, lack of access to agricultural credit, lack of training and marketing facility and un-availability of vaccines. Analyzing the factors affecting consumption of turkey meat would facilitate in marketing decision making process of the turkey farmers and also deliver information to policy makers of Government as well as Department of Livestock Services to take necessary initiatives and support this alternative meat source to rise as a popular consumer choice

Plasmodium falciparum OTUā€like cysteine protease (PfOTU) is essential for apicoplast homeostasis and associates with noncanonical role of Atg8

The metabolic pathways associated with the mitochondrion and the apicoplast in Plasmodium, 2 parasite organelles of prokaryotic origin, are considered as suitable drug targets. In the present study, we have identified functional role of a novel ovarian tumour unit (OTU) domain-containing cysteine protease of Plasmodium falciparum (PfOTU). A C-terminal regulatable fluorescent affinity tag on native protein was utilised for its localization and functional characterization. Detailed studies showed vesicular localization of PfOTU and its association with the apicoplast. Degradation-tag mediated knockdown of PfOTU resulted in abnormal apicoplast development and blocked development of parasites beyond early-schizont stages in subsequent cell cycle; downregulation of PfOTU hindered apicoplast protein import. Further, the isoprenoid precursor-mediated parasite growth-rescue experiments confirmed that PfOTU knockdown specifically effect development of functional apicoplast. We also provide evidence for a possible biological function of PfOTU in membrane deconjugation of Atg8, which may be linked with the apicoplast protein import. Overall, our results show that the PfOTU is involved in apicoplast homeostasis and associates with the noncanonical function of Atg8 in maintenance of parasite apicoplast

To determine if dentists in and around Dhaka are aware of certain workplace hazards and what precautions they take to avoid them. The current study was done with the help of a self-administered questionnaire that was distributed to 30 dentists in and around Dhaka. Personal information such as age, gender, position (student or faculty), years of experience, and number of working hours per day were also included in the questionnaire. Only those who thoroughly filled out the questionnaire form and were willing to participate were considered for the study. PSPP open source latest version was used to analyze the data. 30.0 percent of the participants had worked in the dental field for more than 10 years, while 26.7 percent of dentists worked for less than 8 hours. General practitioners made up 66.7 percent of the participants, and 43.3 percent of them see nearly 10 to 20 patients per day. In clinical practice, 40.0 percent of them had a needle stick injury. In our study, 0.0 percent of dentists reported to getting some form of litigation from their patients. The current study found that the occupational hazards, biological hazards awareness, and preventive actions observed by dentists in Dhaka are generally consistent with published infection control guidelines and previous studies. The bulk of the dental professionals were in pain in their neck or back muscles. Regular training and workshops can aid in the reduction of such issues. This paper presents the design of a dual-band printed planar antenna for deep space CubeSat communications. The antenna system will be used with a radio for duplex operation in a CubeSat, which can be used for a lunar mission or any deep space mission. While a high-gain CubeSat planar antenna/array is always desired for a deep space mission, high-performance ground stations are also required for robust communication links. For such a mission, the X-band is the appropriate frequency for the downlink communication, which is very challenging in the case of deep space communication compared to the uplink communication. At this frequency, the antenna size can have small enough dimension to form an array to obtain high-gain directional radiations for the successful communication, including telemetry and data download. NASAā€™s Deep Space Network (DSN) has the largest and most sensitive 70 meter-diameter antenna that can be considered for this type of mission for reliability. DSN has uplink and downlink frequency of operations in 7.1-GHz and 8.4-GHz bands, respectively, which are separated by approximately 1.3 GHz. A straight forward approach is to use two antennas to cover uplink and downlink frequencies. However, CubeSats have huge space constraints to accommodate science instruments and other subsystems and commonly utilize outside faces for solar cells. Therefore, in this paper, we have proposed a planar directional circularly polarized antenna with a single feed that operates at both uplink and downlink DSN frequencies. Simulated 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth of 165MHz, from 7064MHz to 7229MHz for uplink, and that of 183MHz, from 8325 MHz to 8508 MHz for downlink, are achieved. Also, a wide impedance bandwidth of 23.86% (VSWR \u3c 2) is obtained. From this single probe-fed stacked patch antenna, peak RHCP gain of 9.24dBic can be achieved

Reactions of the labile compound [Re2(CO)8(MeCN)2] with thiazole and 4-methylthiazole in refluxing benzene afforded the new compounds [Re2(CO)7{Ī¼-2,3-Ī·2-C3H(R)NS}{Ī·1-NC3H2(4-R)S}(Ī¼-H)] (1, R = H; 2, R = CH3), [Re2(CO)6{Ī¼-2,3-Ī·2-C3H(R)NS}{Ī·1-NC3H2(4-R)S}2(Ī¼-H)] (3, R = H; 4, R = CH3) and fac-[Re(CO)3(Cl){Ī·1-NC3H2(4-R)S}2] (5, R = H; 6, R = CH3). Compounds 1 and 2 contain two rhenium atoms, one bridging thiazolide ligand, coordinated through the C(2) and N atoms and a Ī·1-thiazole ligand coordinated through the nitrogen atom to the same Re as the thiazolide nitrogen. Compounds 3 and 4 contain a Re2(CO)6 group with one bridging thiazolide ligand coordinated through the C(2) and N atoms and two N-coordinated Ī·1-thiazole ligands, each coordinated to one Re atom. A hydride ligand, formed by oxidative-addition of C(2)ā€“H bond of the ligand, bridges Reā€“Re bond opposite the thiazolide ligand in compounds 1ā€“4. Compound 5 contains a single rhenium atom with three carbonyl ligands, two N-coordinated Ī·1-thiazole ligands and a terminal Cl ligand. Treatment of both 1 and 2 with 5 equiv. of thiazole and 4-methylthiazole in the presence of Me3NO in refluxing benzene afforded 3 and 4, respectively. Further activation of the coordinated Ī·1-thiazole ligands in 1ā€“4 is, however, unsuccessful and results only nonspecific decomposition. The single-crystal XRD structures of 1ā€“5 are reported

Factitious disorder with self inflicted injuries

A 45 year old Bangladeshi female presented with multiple deep cuts and scratch injuries on her body. It was evident from the detail history and observation that the injuries were done by the patient herself. The absences of any obvious external rewards lead to the diagnosis of the factitious disorder. Deception is a key component in both malingering and factitious disorder but in factitious disorder, getting attention or playing the sick role is the only motive

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the association between current childhood nutritional status and current wheezing among pre-school children in rural Bangladesh. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. SETTING: Matlab region, rural Bangladesh. SUBJECTS: Children (n 912) aged 4Ā·5 years. Anthropometric measurements of the mothers and their children were taken during a 1-year period from December 2007 to November 2008. Current wheezing was identified using the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood questionnaire. Serum total IgE was measured by human IgE quantitative ELISA. IgE specific antibody to dust mites (Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus) was measured by the CAP-FEIA system (Phadia AB, Uppsala, Sweden). RESULTS: Wheezing at 4Ā·5 years old was significantly associated with stunting (OR = 1Ā·58; 95 % CI 1Ā·13, 2Ā·22) and underweight (OR = 1Ā·39; 95 % CI 1Ā·00, 1Ā·94). The association with stunting remained significant after adjustment for sex, birth weight, birth length, gestational age at birth, mother's parity, maternal BMI, family history of asthma, socio-economic status, season of birth and intervention trial arm (OR = 1Ā·74; 95 % CI 1Ā·19, 2Ā·56). CONCLUSIONS: Stunting was a significant risk factor for wheezing among rural Bangladeshi children. Further studies will be required to confirm the relationship between nutritional status and allergic illnesses in developing countries
