A study about the instruction for master’s thesis and research works for “experience reflection” in graduate schools in Japan: interviews with the academic staff

In this paper, it was analyzed some characters of instruction for master’s thesis and research papers for professional mature students in Graduate Schools in Japan. From interviews to 11 academic staff in Graduate schools, where they were teaching and instructing professional mature students, the following investigation results were shown: 1) a flexible approach for program completion; 2) instruction to reflective and biographical research approach (reflection in and on action, relativization of thinking and discussion, a bridge between theories and biographical life story etc.). Women staff and women professional students also proposed issues related to life, and flat discussion must be important especially for the independence of the women

Are SRI Funds More Resilient towards the Global Financial Crisis?

This paper compares the resilience of Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) funds with that of conventional funds towards the global financial crisis by using an event study methodology. Taking the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers as the particular event, we estimated the average cumulative abnormal returns of both SRI funds and conventional funds. Our results show that SRI funds are more resilient to such a shock. Similar results are obtained by an estimation with a market model that accounts for ARCH effects.SRI, Event study, Financial crisis

Quantum affine symmetry in vertex models

We study the higher spin anologs of the six vertex model on the basis of its symmetry under the quantum affine algebra U_q(\slth). Using the method developed recently for the XXZ spin chain, we formulate the space of states, transfer matrix, vacuum, creation/annihilation operators of particles, and local operators, purely in the language of representation theory. We find that, regardless of the level of the representation involved, the particles have spin $1/2$, and that the $n$-particle space has an RSOS-type structure rather than a simple tensor product of the $1$-particle space. Bilinearization of Discrete Soliton Equations and Singularity Confinement

Bacterial-contamination Monitoring

Bacterial contamination of dental unit waterlines (DUWLs) was evaluated by using ATP-bioluminescence analysis and conventional culture method. Water samples (n=44) from DUWLs were investigated for heterotrophic bacteria by culture on R2A agar, which ranged from 1.4×103 to 2.7×105 CFU/mL. The ATP-bioluminescence results for DUWL samples were ranged from 6 to 1189 RLU and obtained within one minutes. These results were well correlated with the culture results (r=0.727-0.855). We conclude that differences in the bacterial contamination of each water supply were confirmed by the ATP-bioluminescence assay. This method would be potentially useful for rapid and simple monitoring of DUWL bacterial contamination

Use of ATP bioluminescence to survey the spread of aerosol and splatter during dental treatment

Aerosol and splatter produced during dental treatment (ultrasonic scaling and professional mechanical tooth cleaning) are potential sources of infection. Contamination patterns on the operators’ masks, goggles, chests and gowned right arms, and on the patients’ goggles, before and after dental treatment were investigated by using ATP bioluminescence analysis. Contamination on every surface tested increased significantly after dental treatment. Maximum contamination was found on patients’ goggles. Aerosol and splatter produced during dental treatment thus have the potential to spread infection to operators and patients. ATP bioluminescence is a useful tool for monitoring surface contamination

本稿は， 社会保障・人口問題研究所による 『日本の将来人口推計』 のデータをもとに， 将来の労働力人口推計を試みた。 得られた結果は， 次の 2 点である。 第 1 に， 2002 年の労働力率が将来においても不変と仮定した場合， 2025 年には労働力人口は 6 千万人を割り込むことになる。 第 2 に， しかし女性の 20～49 歳までの労働力率および男性の 60～64 歳までの労働力率が共に 80％にまで上昇させることができるなら， 2015 年の労働力人口は 6,596 万人と 2002 年と比べても 92 万人の微減に押さえることが可能である。 また， 同様の仮定のもとに 2035 年， 2050 年の労働力人口についても推計を試みた

2007年度本学経済学部で開講された 「キャリア開発Ⅱ」 での開講前と講義終了時の 2 回にわたって実施した受講生へのアンケート調査を通じて， この科目の教育効果の測定を試み， 以下の結論を得た．①　まず第 1 に， 「1 職種・適性」 や 「2 業種・業界」 を考え始めさせる効果は， かなり大きいことが分かる．②　 1， 2 と並んで， 効果が高いのは， 「3 履歴書作成」 「6 グループ・ディスカッション」 の 2 項目である．③　改善効果が第 3 のグループとして， 「4 エントリーシート」 「5 筆記試験」 の 2 項目が挙げられる．④　「7 集団面接」 「8 個別面接」 は， 最も改善効果が小さい．⑤　ただし， 「3 履歴書作成」 「4 エントリーシート」 「5 筆記試験」 は， 講義終了後も， 「少し自信がない」 の水準にとどまっている．⑥　これに対し， 「6 グループ・ディスカッション」 「7 集団面接」 「8 個別面接」 は， 講義終了後の自信のない度合いは， 先の 3 項目よりも高いレベルを示している

日本は既に少子高齢社会に突入しているが， その進展には地域的な不均等が存在する． 愛知県は少子高齢化の波の到来が， 比較的遅いことがわかる． 次に， この愛知県にある知多半島 5 市 5 町の少子高齢化の展開を 2030 年まで予測した． そして， 知多半島 5 市 5 町は少子高齢化の予測される進展度合いに応じて， 3 つのグループにタイプ分けできるのではないかとの結論をえた． 少子高齢化の波の到来が比較的ゆっくりである第 1 グループ （半田市， 常滑市， 東海市， 大府市， 東浦町の 4 市 1 町）， 少子高齢化の進展が明瞭に現れてくると予測される第 3 グループ （阿久比町， 南知多町， 美浜町の 3 町） と， その中間に位置する第 2 グループ （知多市， 武豊町の 1 市 1 町） である
