    AbstractOpen Source Software (OSS) is a new paradigm to develop software by community, in which groups of developer collaborating each other. The method becomes very popular because the products of OSS projects, such as source code, documents, results of tests, are published by open-license. One of noticeable features of OSS is openness of project. Anyone can access the products of OSS projects. It is expected that the quality of products could be higher than those developed by conventional methods, as more people access OSS products and the chance to find defect could be larger. However, there are no established methods for the evaluation of OSS, neither actual terms of the evaluation of OSS. We propose an evaluation method, which is based on the maturity model of OSS development community

    Right Upper-lower Bilobectomy for Double Primary Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

    Introduction: Right upper-lower bilobectomy is rarely performed for non-small cell lung cancer. The prevention of middle lobe torsion is an important aspect of this procedure.Presentation of case: The patient was 68-year-old man. He had double primary Stage1B non-small cell lung cancer, and requiring right upper-lower bilobectomy. The residual middle lobe was rotated approximately 90° in spite of sutured to the diaphragm. This event leads to pooling of sputum and the subsequent development of bacterial pneumonia in the middle lobe. Moreover, acute respiratory distress syndrome developed in the left lung arising secondarily to bacterial pneumonia. The patient died on postoperative day 42 due to respiratory failure.Conclusion: Fixation of the residual middle lobe is important during right upper-lower bilobectomy

    Induction of immune response in macaque monkeys infected with simian–human immunodeficiency virus having the TNF-α gene at an early stage of infection

    AbstractTNF-α has been implicated in the pathogenesis of, and the immune response against, HIV-1 infection. To clarify the roles of TNF-α against HIV-1-related virus infection in an SHIV-macaque model, we genetically engineered an SHIV to express the TNF-α gene (SHIV-TNF) and characterized the virus's properties in vivo. After the acute viremic stage, the plasma viral loads declined earlier in the SHIV-TNF-inoculated monkeys than in the parental SHIV (SHIV-NI)-inoculated monkeys. SHIV-TNF induced cell death in the lymph nodes without depletion of circulating CD4+ T cells. SHIV-TNF provided some immunity in monkeys by increasing the production of the chemokine RANTES and by inducing an antigen-specific proliferation of lymphocytes. The monkeys immunized with SHIV-TNF were partly protected against a pathogenic SHIV (SHIV-C2/1) challenge. These findings suggest that TNF-α contributes to the induction of an effective immune response against HIV-1 rather than to the progression of disease at the early stage of infection

    Utility of commercial high‐resolution satellite imagery for monitoring general flowering in Sarawak, Borneo

    General flowering (GF), irregular synchronous mass flowering of multiple tree species across multiple families, is a unique biological phenomenon of the mixed lowland dipterocarp forest in Southeast Asia. Characterizing the spatial extent and temporal dynamics of GF is essential for an improved understanding of climate–vegetation interactions and the potential climate change impact on this species-rich rainforest. We investigated the utility of newly available high-temporal (daily) and high-spatial (3–4 m) resolution remote sensing by the PlanetScope commercial satellite constellation for detecting flowering trees in a dipterocarp rainforest at Lambir Hills National Park, Sarawak, Malaysia. Our study was focused on the latest GF event known to have occurred in the region in the year 2019. PlanetScope successfully acquired 13 clear-sky or minimally cloud-contaminated scenes over the park during a study period of January 1, 2019 to August 31, 2019 encompassing the 2019 GF event. In situ phenology observations verified that the PlanetScope images detected the flowering crowns of tree species that turned into white or orange. This multitemporal image dataset also captured the flowering peak and species differences. The correlation coefficients between the multitemporal image signatures and in situ phenology observations were moderate to very strong (0.52–0.85). The results indicated that the 2019 GF event was a whole-park phenomenon with the flowering peak in May. This study reports the first successful satellite-based observations of a GF event and suggests the possibility of regional-scale characterization of species-level phenology in the dipterocarp forest, key information for biodiversity conservation in Southeast Asia

    Structural and magnetic properties of Fe1+dTe single crystals

    We have grown single crystals of Fe1+dTe by a conventional self-flux method. We obtained plate-like single crystals with dnom \geq 0.1. The value of the magnetization increased with increasing excess Fe concentration, and a broadening of the antiferromagnetic transition was observed for dnom >1.15. Further, we noted that the antiferromagnetic transition of Fe1.134Te (dnom = 0.15) was clearly suppressed to a lower temperature, which would indicate a possibility of controllability of magnetism by excess Fe concentration.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures.     Evolution of two-step structural phase transition in Fe1+dTe detected by low-temperature x-ray diffraction

    The low-temperature crystal structure of Fe1.13Te, which exhibits an anomalous two-step magnetic transition, was clarified by the systematic x-ray diffraction measurements. It was found that two-step structural phase transition, tetragonal-orthorhombic-monoclinic, occurred correspondingly to the two-step magnetic transition. The detailed analysis of the profile at 5 K indicated the coexistence of the minor orthorhombic area inside the major monoclinic lattice, which could explain the lower-shift (suppression) of the antiferromagnetic transition temperature in Fe1.13Te and suggest a possibility of superconductivity at the domain boundary.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figure
