Careers advisors’ opinion of the College of Occupational Therapists Careers Video
Using a mixed methodology, this study investigated the effectiveness of the
College of Occupational Therapists’ careers video in increasing the knowledge
of six careers advisers about the profession and obtained their views of the
video as a promotional tool. To quantify the advisers’ knowledge, a pre-test
post-test questionnaire was used before and after viewing the video. A short
qualitative interview then ascertained their impressions of the video. Despite a
high baseline knowledge, viewing the video was effective in increasing it. The
advisers had mixed opinions about the video, suggesting that it could be
improved and clarified
The activation of hydrogen by excited mercury atoms
That mercury atoms excited by absorption of the line 2537Å are able to activate various kinds of atoms by collisions of the second kind has been shown in several different ways. Using pressure measurements to follow the reaction, Cario and Franck (1) showed that hydrogen, in the presence of excited mercury vapor, can be activated and made to reduce copper oxide or tungsten oxide, while Dickinson (2) repeated the experiment using gaseous oxygen instead of solid oxide. Employing spectroscopic methods of detection, Cario (3) activated thallium vapor by collisions with excited mercury atoms and observed the radiation of the green thallium line 5351 Å and indeed all the thallium lines which would theoretically be expected
Realist evaluation of the impact of paediatric nurse practitioner clinics, specialist paediatric nurses, and a children’s community nursing team in deflecting attendance at emergency departments and urgent care centres by children with long-term conditions
In 2018, the Greater Manchester Children’s Health and Wellbeing Board developed a 10-point strategy to achieve its objectives, the sixth of which was to reduce unnecessary hospital attendances and admissions for children with long term conditions such as asthma, diabetes and epilepsy. Funding was secured from Manchester Academic Health Science Centre to commission an exploration of the impact of the Paediatric Nurse Practitioner Clinic within the context of the Family Services Model and the impact that the service was having on reducing attendance at urgent care centres or admission to hospital.
Alternatives to taking children to the ED/UCC can be a preference. An integrated system, with elements able to book directly into others, with rapid access, information, health promotion, and follow-up were essential to success. Extra consultation time for proactive intervention, with sufficient nurses to provide a seven-days service were valued. Advertisement of the service to the public and to professionals is vital for uptake by professionals and the public
SUBSET: Best Subsets using Information Criteria
SUBSET, written in the matrix language Gauss, is a program that identifies optimal subsets of means or proportions based on independent groups. All possible configurations of ordered subsets of groups are identified and the best model is selected using either the AIC or BIC information criterion. For means, both homogeneous and heterogeneous variance cases are considered. SUBSET offers an alternative approach to traditional post-hoc multiple-comparison procedures such as the Tukey test for pairwise comparisons. Major advantages of SUBSET over traditional pairwise comparison procedures include the fact that intransitive decisions are avoided and that issues related to type I error control, sample size and heterogeneity of variance do not arise.
