Measurement of the prompt D0D^0 nuclear modification factor in ppPb collisions at sNN=8.16\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}} = 8.16 TeV

    No full text
International audienceThe production of prompt D0D^0 mesons in proton-lead collisions in the forward and backward configurations at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of sNN=8.16 TeV\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}} = 8.16~\mathrm{TeV} is measured by the LHCb experiment. The nuclear modification factor of prompt D0D^0 mesons is determined as a function of the transverse momentum pTp_\mathrm{T}, and rapidity in the nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass frame y∗y^*. In the forward rapidity region, significantly suppressed production with respect to pppp collisions is measured, which provides significant constraints of nuclear parton distributions and hadron production down to the very low Bjorken-xx region of ∌10−5\sim 10^{-5}. In the backward rapidity region, a suppression with a significance of 2.0 - 3.8 standard deviations compared to nPDF expectations is found in the kinematic region of pT>6 GeV/cp_\mathrm{T}>6~\mathrm{GeV}/c and −3.25<y∗<−2.5-3.25<y^*<-2.5, corresponding to x∌0.01x\sim 0.01

Precision measurement of CP\it{CP} violation in the penguin-mediated decay Bs0→ϕϕB_s^{0}\rightarrow\phi\phi

    No full text
International audienceA flavor-tagged time-dependent angular analysis of the decay Bs0→ϕϕB_s^{0}\rightarrow\phi\phi is performed using pppp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at s=13\sqrt{s}=13 TeV, the center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb^{-1}. The CP\it{CP}-violating phase and direct CP\it{CP}-violation parameter are measured to be ϕssˉs=−0.042±0.075±0.009\phi_{s\bar{s}s} = -0.042 \pm 0.075 \pm 0.009 rad and ∣λ∣=1.004±0.030±0.009|\lambda|=1.004\pm 0.030 \pm 0.009 , respectively, assuming the same values for all polarization states of the ϕϕ\phi\phi system. In these results, the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. These parameters are also determined separately for each polarization state, showing no evidence for polarization dependence. The results are combined with previous LHCb measurements using pppp collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, yielding ϕssˉs=−0.074±0.069\phi_{s\bar{s}s} = -0.074 \pm 0.069 rad and ∣λ∣=1.009±0.030|\lambda|=1.009 \pm 0.030. This is the most precise study of time-dependent CP\it{CP} violation in a penguin-dominated BB meson decay. The results are consistent with CP\it{CP} symmetry and with the Standard Model predictions

    Measurement of prompt D+D^+ and Ds+D^+_{s} production in pPbp\mathrm{Pb} collisions at sNN=5.02 \sqrt {s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=5.02\,TeV

International audienceThe production of prompt D+D^+ and Ds+D^+_{s} mesons is studied in proton-lead collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of sNN=5.02 \sqrt {s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=5.02\,TeV. The data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of (1.58±0.02)nb−1(1.58\pm0.02)\mathrm{nb}^{-1} is collected by the LHCb experiment at the LHC. The differential production cross-sections are measured using D+D^+ and Ds+D^+_{s} candidates with transverse momentum in the range of 0<pT<14 GeV/c0<p_{\mathrm{T}} <14\,\mathrm{GeV}/c and rapidities in the ranges of 1.5<y∗<4.01.5<y^*<4.0 and −5.0<y∗<−2.5-5.0<y^*<-2.5 in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass system. For both particles, the nuclear modification factor and the forward-backward production ratio are determined. These results are compared with theoretical models that include initial-state nuclear effects. In addition, measurements of the cross-section ratios between D+D^+, Ds+D^+_{s} and D0D^0 mesons are presented, providing a baseline for studying the charm hadronization in lead-lead collisions at LHC energies

Search for D∗(2007)0→Ό+Ό−D^{*}(2007)^0\to\mu^+\mu^- in B−→π−Ό+Ό−B^-\to\pi^-\mu^+\mu^- decays

    No full text
International audienceThe very rare D∗(2007)0→Ό+Ό−D^{*}(2007)^0\to\mu^+\mu^- decay is searched for by analysing B−→π−Ό+Ό−B^-\to\pi^-\mu^+\mu^- decays. The analysis uses a sample of beauty mesons produced in proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1^{-1}. The signal signature corresponds to simultaneous peaks in the ÎŒ+Ό−\mu^+\mu^- and π−Ό+Ό−\pi^-\mu^+\mu^- invariant masses. No evidence for an excess of events over background is observed and an upper limit is set on the branching fraction of the decay at B(D∗(2007)0→Ό+Ό−)<2.6×10−8{\cal B}(D^{*}(2007)^0\to\mu^+\mu^-) < 2.6\times 10^{-8} at 90%90\% confidence level. This is the first limit on the branching fraction of D∗(2007)0→Ό+Ό−D^{*}(2007)^0\to\mu^+\mu^- decays and the most stringent limit on D∗(2007)0D^{*}(2007)^0 decays to leptonic final states. The analysis is the first search for a rare charm-meson decay exploiting production via beauty decays
