DergiPark: 379005tmsjAims: The aim of this study is to determine the level of information regarding radiation safety and the side effects related to the use of fluoroscopy among a group of teaching assistants, research assistants, medical students, nurses, technicians and caretakers working at Trakya University Health Center for Medical Research and Practice. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional survey study was conducted from December 2014 to April 2015 at Trakya University Health Center for Medical Research and Practice. The questionnaire consisted of 24 questions and was applied to 53 people. Responses regarding radiation safety and the side effects of fluoroscopy were analyzed in Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) 20.0 using descriptive statistics including frequencies and percentages. Results: 98.08% of the participants responded “yes” to the question ”Do you think fluoroscopy is hazardous to health?”. On the other hand, the results showed that only 32.69% of the participants wore lead apron and 32.77% used thyroid shields in every operation. 88.46% of the participants reported that they would like to attend a training regarding fluoroscopy and radiation safety. Conclusion: The results indicated that the operating room staff of Trakya University Health Center for Medical Research and Practice does not possess adequate knowledge regarding radiation safet

DergiPark: 378999tmsjAims: In this study, it is aimed to detect electrophysiological correlation of patients who were referred to TrakyaUniversity Medical Research Center Neurology Clinics Electromyography (EMG) lab in 2014 with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) pre-diagnosis and grade them based on electrophysiological features. Methods: Electromyography (EMG) records of 174 patients who were sent to electromyography lab in 2014 withCarpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) pre diagnosis were scanned retrospectively. Patients were recorded with the data of gender and age. Correlation between pre diagnosis and electrophysiological diagnosis were reported statistically by using Kappa and McNemar tests. Patients were classified based on sex using Chi-square test. Number and percentages, arithmetic mean± standard deviation, median (minimum-maximum) were used as descriptive analysis. Results: Out of all electrophysiological diagnosis, 62 patients (35.6%) were consistent with pre diagnosis when 112(64.4%) were inconsistent. Out of patients who were diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) according to their electromyography (EMG) findings, 31 patients (48.4%) had mild syndrome. Conclusion: A big inconsistency between pre diagnosis and electromyography (EMG) results was detected. It isimportant to make a more careful and detailed examination to fix this proble

Novel zinc oxide nanoparticles of Teucrium polium suppress the malignant progression of gastric cancer cells through modulating apoptotic signaling pathways and epithelial to mesenchymal transition

Management of gastric cancer is still challenging due to resistance to current chemotherapeutics and recurrent disease. Moreover, green-synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) using natural resources are one of the most promising therapeutic agents for anticancer therapy. Here we report the facile green synthesis and char-acterization of ZnO-NPs from Teucrium polium (TP-ZnO-NP) herb extract and the anticancer activities of these nanoparticles on gastric cancer cells. Facile green synthesis of TP-ZnO-NP was achieved using zinc acetate dihydrate. For the characterization of TP-ZnO-NP, UV-vis spectroscopy, FTIR, SEM, XRD and EDX analyses were performed. Antiproliferative and anticancer activities of TP-ZnO-NP were explored using the HGC-27 gastric cancer cell line model. MTT cell viability and colony formation assays were used for the analysis of cell pro-liferation and migration. Wound healing assay was used to analyze the migration capacities of cells. Annexin V/ PI double staining, DNA ladder assay, and Acridine orange/Ethidium bromide staining were performed to analyze the induction of apoptosis. qPCR was used to determine gene expression levels of apoptotic and epithelial to mesenchymal transition marker genes. The aqueous extract of TP served as both a reducing and capping agent for the successful biosynthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles. Remarkably, synthesized TP-ZnO-NPs were found to have significant antiproliferative and anticancer activities on HGC-27 gastric cancer cells. Collectively, current data suggest that TP-ZnO-NP is a novel and promising anticancer agent for future therapeutic interventions in gastric cancer
