Chemistry of Sex Attractant of Insects
In the earlier times, the abnormal spread of injurious pests over the crops was one of the most important causes which made agriculture unsteady. This unexpectable and hateful damage of harvests has been hitherto prevented prac-tically by many sorts of agricultural pesticides. Hence, enabling the introductio

Self-pulsation and excitability of blue-violet InGaN lasers
This article gives a review of our latest results on the self-pulsation and excitability properties of blue-violet lasers. A number of investigations of the phenomena in InGaN lasers with different designs are described. The bifurcations, which are the origin of the phenomena, are identified and the effects of the lasers parameters on device dynamics are discussed. It is shown how different laser structures can be used to control device behaviour and the dependence of self-pulsation and excitability behaviour on laser geometry is discussed. Finally, agreement between the results of numerical calculations and experimental measurements on self-pulsation is demonstrated
Pressurization facilitates adenovirus-mediated gene transfer into vein graft
AbstractWe investigated whether application of non-distending hydrostatic pressure facilitates gene transfer into vein grafts. An external jugular vein was placed in a chamber with 100 μl adenovirus solution at a titer of 1010 pfu/ml and was pressurized to up to 8 atm above ambient pressure for 10 min. Histochemical analysis demonstrated a positive transgene expression in all layers of the vessel wall. Gene transfer with 8 atm pressurization resulted in an approximately 50 times higher transgene expression than that without pressurization. Under 8 atm pressurization, the efficiency of gene transfer reached a plateau at 7.5 min. The application of hydrostatic pressure may improve the effectiveness of intraoperative genetic engineering of vein grafts
Pueraria mirifica, an estrogenic tropical herb, unveiled the severity of Type 1 LQTS caused by KCNQ1-T587M
After taking an estrogen-containing supplement derived from a tropical plant Pueraria mirifica, a 24-year-old woman presented marked QT prolongation and repetitive torsade de pointes. The patient was found to carry a heterozygous KCNQ1-T587M mutation. This is the first report on Pueraria mirifica-related acquired long QT syndrome
