    Approximation of CNC part program within a given tolerance band

    Freeform surfaces are widely used in various fields of engineering design such as automotive, aerospace and mold and die industries. With the geometric model designed by freeform surfaces in the CAD system, the tool path will be next constructed and sampled by the CAM system according to the predefined chordal deviation. The sequentially sampled short linear blocks are stored in the file called the part program, which is later interpreted by the CNC system to control the machine tool and mill the workpiece. In order to deliver the desired motion smoothly and rapidly, the short linear blocks in the part program will be approximated with smooth spline curves within a specified tolerance band. With spline curves, which consist of longer polynomial pieces, the attainable feed rate of the machine tool can be greatly enhanced. In addition, with minimization of curvature variation, velocity and acceleration jumps in the relevant machine axes and undesired mechanical oscillation of the machine can be reduced significantly. This allows higher traversing speeds and reduces the vibration of the machine, thus improves the surface quality

    Demonstration of the double Q^2-rescaling model

    In this paper we have demonstrated the double Q^2-rescaling model (DQ^2RM) of parton distribution functions of nucleon bounded in nucleus. With different x-region of l-A deep inelastic scattering process we take different approach: in high x-region (0.1\le x\le 0.7) we use the distorted QCD vacuum model which resulted from topologically multi -connected domain vacuum structure of nucleus; in low x-region (10^{-4}\le x\le10^{-3}) we adopt the Glauber (Mueller) multi- scattering formula for gluon coherently rescattering in nucleus. From these two approach we justified the rescaling parton distribution functions in bound nucleon are in agreement well with those we got from DQ^2RM, thus the validity for this phenomenologically model are demonstrated.Comment: 19 page, RevTex, 5 figures in postscrip

    Fabrication of a microresonator-fiber assembly maintaining a high-quality factor by CO2 laser welding

    We demonstrate fabrication of a microtoroid resonator of a high-quality (high-Q) factor using femtosecond laser three-dimensional (3D) micromachining. A fiber taper is reliably assembled to the microtoroid using CO2 laser welding. Specifically, we achieve a high Q-factor of 2.12*10^6 in the microresonator-fiber assembly by optimizing the contact position between the fiber taper and the microtoroid.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure

    Polygenic risk score penetrance & recurrence risk in familial Alzheimer disease

    OBJECTIVE: To compute penetrance and recurrence risk using a genome-wide PRS (including and excluding the APOE region) in families with Alzheimer\u27s disease. METHODS: Genotypes from the National Institute on Aging Late-Onset Alzheimer\u27s Disease Family-Based Study and a study of familial Alzheimer\u27s disease in Caribbean Hispanics were used to compute PRS with and without variants in the 2 MB region flanking APOE. PRS was calculated in using clumping/thresholding and Bayesian methods and was assessed for association with Alzheimer\u27s disease and age at onset. Penetrance and recurrence risk for carriers in highest and lowest PRS quintiles were compared separately within APOE-ε4 carriers and non-carriers. RESULTS: PRS excluding the APOE region was strongly associated with clinical and neuropathological diagnosis of AD. PRS association with AD was similar in participants who did not carry an APOE-ε4 allele (OR = 1.74 [1.53-1.91]) compared with APOE-ε4 carriers (1.53 [1.4-1.68]). Compared to the lowest quintile, the highest PRS quintile had a 10% higher penetrance at age 70 (p = 0.0006) and a 20% higher penetrance at age 80 (p \u3c 10e-05). Stratifying by APOE-ε4 allele, PRS in the highest quintile was significantly more penetrant than the lowest quintile, both, within APOE-ε4 carriers (14.5% higher at age 80, p = 0.002) and non-carriers (26% higher at 80, p \u3c 10e-05). Recurrence risk for siblings conferred by a co-sibling in the highest PRS quintile increased from 4% between the ages of 65-74 years to 39% at age 85 and older. INTERPRETATION: PRS can be used to estimate penetrance and recurrence risk in familial Alzheimer\u27s disease among carriers and non-carries of APOE-ε4

    Endogenous Borrowing Constraints and Wealth Inequality

    This paper studies the evolution of wealth inequality in an economy with endogenous borrowing constraints. In the model economy, young agents need to borrow to finance human capital investments but cannot commit to repaying their loans. Creditors can punish defaulters by banishing them permanently from the credit market. At equilibrium, loan default is prevented by imposing a borrowing limit tied to the borrower\u27s inheritance. The heterogeneity in inheritances translates into heterogeneity in borrowing limits: endogenously, some borrowers face a zero borrowing limit, and some are partly constrained, whereas others are unconstrained. Depending on the initial distribution of inheritances, it is possible that all lineages are attracted either to the zero-borrowing-limit steady state or to the unconstrained-borrowing steady state—long-run equality. It is also possible that some lineages end up in one steady state and the rest in the other—complete polarization
