Tidal tilts observations in the Gran Sasso underground laboratory

A new tiltmeter, based on the technology for building a space-borne high-sensitivity accelerometer and manufactured at IFSI/CNR, has been operating during several years in the INFN Gran Sasso underground laboratory. The results of the analysis of a three-year data set, processed with the program package ETERNA, to estimate earthtidal parameters are reported. For the best series of data (1998) tide measurement accuracies are: 0.5–1% for the M2 (lunar principal) amplitude and 3–4% for the O1 (lunar declination) amplitude. The tiltmeter installed at a depth of 1400m shows no clear evidence of meteorological effects. Observed tidal parameters are compared with theoretical tidal parameters predicted for a non-hydrostatic inelastic Earth model and demonstrate good agreement for the M2 component. Due to the high accuracy of the tidal components prediction (better than 1%) tidal measurements were used to estimate the long-term stability of the instrument response

    Experimental gravitation and geophysics

Seismic noise is the major obstacle to performing sensitive measurements of the gravitational field on the ground. The INFN (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare) underground laboratory in Gran Sasso, L’Aquila(Italy), seems to be a favourable place from the environmental noise point of view. This paper describes briefly two, relatively low cost, gravity experiments that can be performed in the underground laboratory: a) A measurement of preferred-frame and preferred-location effects. b) A test of the equivalence principle. Preliminary experimental data of the seismic noise are also presented

A new concept gravity meter with sensitivity close to Hz ms / 10 2 8 − − in the range of 10 -5 −1Hz intended for observation of the vertical component of the Earth gravity and teleseismic waves was implemented at the Istituto di Fisica dello Spazio Interplanetario (IFSI), CNR and successfully operated during the GEOSTAR-2 mission. The gravimeter has demonstrated a capability to operate for long time in an autonomous regime and a good reliability for operation in extreme environments; at the same time the experimental measurements gave the information for the further gravimeter’s implementation. Results of observation and data analysis included the registration of seismic waves excited by global earthquakes and the evaluation of the low frequency modes of free oscillations of the Earth are reported

Electrochemically driven molecular rotors based on ferrocene-1,1'-diyl-bisphosphinic acids

© 2015, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. Based on ferrocene-1,1'-diyl-bisphosphinic acids Fc[P(R)(O)OH]2 (R = H, Me, Et, Ph) in methanol, two types of electrochemically driven molecular rotors are developed. Monoanions of acids are fixed in the cis-conformation due to the presence of an intramolecular hydrogen bond, whereas dianions are fixed in the trans-conformation due to electrostatic repulsion forces. Upon the transformation of monoanions to dianions, the controlled rotation of cyclopentadienyl rings from cis to trans-conformation occurs; the reverse switching leads to the reverse rotation. In one type of rotors, the rotation is controlled by the reversible variation of the solution pH and composition in the electrochemical oxidation-re-reduction cycle of N-phe-nyl-N'-isopropyl-1,4-phenylenediamine; in the other type, the rotation is determined by the one electron oxidation-re-reduction of the ferrocene nucleus in monoanions. The latter rotor type at room temperature can operate stably only for a short time (τ< 1 s) and at longer times is irreversibly destructed during the oxidation stage

© 2018 by the authors. Pectin is a polymer with a core of alternating a-1,4-linked D-galacturonic acid and α-1,2-L-rhamnose units, as well as a variety of neutral sugars such as arabinose, galactose, and lesser amounts of other sugars. Currently, native pectins have been compared to modified ones due to the development of natural medicines and health products. In this review, the results of a study of the bioactivity of pectic polysaccharides, including its various pharmacological applications, such as its immunoregulatory, anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, antibacterial, antioxidant and antitumor activities, have been summarized. The potential of pectins to contribute to the enhancement of drug delivery systems has been observed

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death and disability in the population in most developed countries. The organization of the vascular bed is an objective indicator of the state of the trophic tissue of any organ. The aim is to identify the individually-typological and concomitant variability of morphological characteristics of the coronary arteries in adults of the second period of mature and elderly. Materials and Methods: 161 coronary angiograms were investigated without evidence of pathological changes in coronary arteries of people of both sexes aged 36 to 74 years using the programs «Syngo Fast View», «ImageJ», «Adobe Photoshop CS7», «Microsoft Excel», «SPSS». Results: We identified the indivi-dually-typological and concomitant characteristics of the coronary arteries in people of different ages and sex in norm. Conclusions: Right and left coronary arteries have 3 types for the length of the main trunk (short, medium, long) and types of interposition of the branches of first order: 1 - compact (less than 47.420, less than 45.430), uniform (47.42 - 83.78; 45.43 -82.77), 3 - sparse (more than 83.78, 82.77 or more, respectively) depending on the angle between them (in diastole). Received data about anatomy of coronary arteries allows a more objective approach to the definition of tactics of treatment of cardiac patients.

© 2018 Elsevier B.V. Recently new flexible and hydrolytically stable metal-organic framework [M(H2O)2(Fc(PHOO)2)·2H2O]n, M = Co has been synthesized by the use of synthetic technique, described earlier for M = Mn [1]. The heating of both complexes leads to elimination of water molecules and in the case of Co complex is accompanied by change of its color from orange to dark blue. The corresponding structural changes are reversible and are reflected in vibrational and electronic absorption spectra. Analysis of IR, Raman and UV–vis spectra of complexes shows the same structures of Mn and Co complexes before and after heating and suggests that both Mn and Co coordination polyhedra undergo reversible changes under heating from octahedral to tetrahedral form with ferrocene part remaining unchanged
