Self-generated magnetic flux in YBaCuO grain boundaries
Grain boundaries in YBaCuO superconducting films are
considered as Josephson junctions with a critical current density
alternating along the junction. A self-generated magnetic flux is treated both
analytically and numerically for an almost periodic distribution of .
We obtained a magnetic flux-pattern similar to the one which was recently
observed experimentally.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figure
Diffusion of particles moving with constant speed
The propagation of light in a scattering medium is described as the motion of
a special kind of a Brownian particle on which the fluctuating forces act only
perpendicular to its velocity. This enforces strictly and dynamically the
constraint of constant speed of the photon in the medium. A Fokker-Planck
equation is derived for the probability distribution in the phase space
assuming the transverse fluctuating force to be a white noise. Analytic
expressions for the moments of the displacement along with an
approximate expression for the marginal probability distribution function
are obtained. Exact numerical solutions for the phase space
probability distribution for various geometries are presented. The results show
that the velocity distribution randomizes in a time of about eight times the
mean free time () only after which the diffusion approximation becomes
valid. This factor of eight is a well known experimental fact. A persistence
exponent of is calculated for this process in two dimensions
by studying the survival probability of the particle in a semi-infinite medium.
The case of a stochastic amplifying medium is also discussed.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures(Submitted to Phys. Rev. E
Implementation and Validation of Schapery-Rand Anisotropic Viscoelasticity Model for Super-Pressure Balloons
The thin film used for the NASA Ultra Long Duration Balloons (ULDB) shows con-siderable time-dependent behaviour. Furthermore, experiments on scaled ULDB balloons have revealed that wrinkles are present over a wide range of pressures. A numerical model has been developed describing the nonlinear anisotropic viscoelastic material behaviour by means of a Schapery-type model and this model has been extended to model wrinkling by means of a user-defined subroutine in the finite-element package ABAQUS. After a description of the viscoelastic modelling approach, a lobe of a 48 gore ULDB flat facet balloon is modelled and compared to experimental results. Additionally two test cases of anisotropic wrinkling are presented, one involving a flat membrane and one a cylindrical balloon structure. I
Accuracy and Stability of Computing High-Order Derivatives of Analytic Functions by Cauchy Integrals
High-order derivatives of analytic functions are expressible as Cauchy
integrals over circular contours, which can very effectively be approximated,
e.g., by trapezoidal sums. Whereas analytically each radius r up to the radius
of convergence is equal, numerical stability strongly depends on r. We give a
comprehensive study of this effect; in particular we show that there is a
unique radius that minimizes the loss of accuracy caused by round-off errors.
For large classes of functions, though not for all, this radius actually gives
about full accuracy; a remarkable fact that we explain by the theory of Hardy
spaces, by the Wiman-Valiron and Levin-Pfluger theory of entire functions, and
by the saddle-point method of asymptotic analysis. Many examples and
non-trivial applications are discussed in detail.Comment: Version 4 has some references and a discussion of other quadrature

The microstructural evolution of CM247LC manufactured through laser powder bed fusion
Numerous challenges persist with the additive manufacturing of high γ′ containing Ni-based superalloys such as CM247LC. Currently, significant cracking occurs during deposition of CM247LC components using laser powder bed fusion and during post-processing. Whilst post-deposition procedures seek to eliminate or minimise cracks, current procedures do not produce a microstructure suitable for service. This study systematically investigates the microstructural evolution of CM247LC manufactured using laser powder bed fusion following multiple post processing treatments. Phase and textural changes after each processing step were consistent with previous studies, although an additional Hf-rich and Cr-depleted segregation zone was identified along intercellular boundaries in the as-deposited condition, believed to be associated with the cracking propensity. Compositional modification of CM247LC including removal of Hf, reduction of C and addition of Nb eliminated the segregation zone but these changes were associated with an increased susceptibility to solidification and liquation cracking
Electroweak Corrections to the Charged Higgs Boson Decay into Chargino and Neutralino
The electroweak corrections to the partial widths of the decays including one-loop
diagrams of the third generation quarks and squarks, are investigated within
the Supersymmetric Standard Model. The relative corrections can reach the
values about 10%, therefore they should be taken into account for the precise
experimental measurement at future colliders.Comment: 21 pages, 6 eps figures, 1 Latex fil
