Affordable, high-quality and modern education, a safe and technologically advanced educational environment are the basis for improving the quality of life. In the context of the pandemic, many problems have emerged that are faced in practice by general education organizations and municipal education systems. The pandemic has sharpened the attention of researchers, first of all, to the problem of the development of distance education. The purpose of the research is to study the features and problems of the functioning of municipal education systems in a pandemic

KD5170, a novel mercaptoketone-based histone deacetylase inhibitor that exhibits broad spectrum antitumor activity in vitro and in vivo

Abstract Histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors have garnered significant attention as cancer drugs. These therapeutic agents have recently been clinically validated with the market approval of vorinostat (SAHA, Zolinza) for treatment of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. Like vorinostat, most of the small-molecule HDAC inhibitors in clinical development are hydroxamic acids, whose inhibitory activity stems from their ability to coordinate the catalytic Zn 2+ in the active site of HDACs. We sought to identify novel, nonhydroxamate-based HDAC inhibitors with potentially distinct pharmaceutical properties via an ultra-high throughput small molecule biochemical screen against the HDAC activity in a HeLa cell nuclear extract. An A-mercaptoketone series was identified and chemically optimized. The lead compound, KD5170, exhibits HDAC inhibitory activity with an IC 50 of 0.045 Mmol/L in the screening biochemical assay and an EC 50 of 0.025 Mmol/L in HeLa cell -based assays that monitor histone H3 acetylation. KD5170 also exhibits broad spectrum classe

Suono e Spettacolo. Athanasius Kircher, un percorso nelle Immagini sonore.

The Society of Jesus made great propaganda efforts throughout the seventeenth century and chose the images and the play as a privileged means to communicate and persuade. Athanasius Kircher, a key figure of the seventeenth century, he decided to dominate the wild nature of sound through Phonurgia Nova, which includes a gallery of powerful symbolic images for Baroque aesthetics. The essay, through the grant of the images from the Library of the Department of Mathematics "Guido Castelnuovo" Sapienza University of Rome, aims to understand, through the pictures offered by Kircher, the sound phenomenon and the spectacle that this produces. In Phonurgia Nova a process of dramatization sound effects takes place, often through machines and "visions" applied to the theatrical reality, as experimental and astonishing environment beloved in baroque. Kircher illustrates the sound through explanatory figures, so to dominate the sound through the eyes. Sound is seen, admired and represented: its spectacle not only takes place through the implementation of sound machines or the "wonders" applied to the theater, but even through images, creating create a sense of wonder in in the erudite person of the seventeenth century

Gigliola Sulis speaks to Ann Goldstein: writing locally, translating globally

The conversation focuses on attitudes and trends in the US publishing market toward translated fiction. The strategies used by Goldstein as a translator of geo-centred and multilingual Italian novels are analysed, with reference to her translations of Pier Paolo Pasolini, Primo Levi, Elena Ferrante, Milena Agus, and Amara Lakhous

Influence of Cold Rolling Process and Chemical Composition on the Mechanical Properties and Corrosion Behavior of Zr-Based Metallic Glasses

Cold rolling (CR) with thickness reduction of 10%, 30%, and 50% was applied to Zr50Cu44Al6 and Zr49.5Cu44Al6Nb0.5 metallic glassy ribbon samples. The XRD patterns showed the amorphousness of all samples after casting and CR processes. The SEM images indicated the formation of multiple shear bands (SBs) owing to plastic deformation during CR. However, the addition of 0.5 at% Nb to the alloy changed the SBs’ density and spacing characteristics. The characterization of free volume changes caused by CR was carried out by measuring the density of Archimedes. The micro-hardness of samples was studied by investigating SBs and free volume during plastic deformation. Alloy softening occurred due to the formation of free volume during CR. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed the presence of oxides ZrO2, CuOx, and AlOx on the surface of the ribbons. The anodic polarization curves of the cast and R50 samples in solutions of NaCl and Na2SO4 (0.5 M) were obtained using potentiodynamic polarization measurements. Compared to CR ribbons, melt-spun ribbons after casting showed better corrosion resistance with lower anodic current densities in Na2SO4 solution

Structure-Activity Relationships of N-Cinnamoyl and Hydroxycinnamoyl Amides on α-Glucosidase Inhibition

    No full text
Currently, there is an increasing interest towards α-glucosidase inhibition of various diseases including diabetes mellitus type 2, cancer, HIV, and B- and C-type viral hepatitis. Cinnamic acid derivatives have been shown to be potentially valuable as a new group of α-glucosidase inhibitors. Therefore, herein, the α-glucosidase inhibitory activity of trans-N-cinnamoyl and hydroxycinnamoyl amides was studied in vitro. Results revealed that the tested hydroxycinnamoyl amides (1–16) inhibited a-glucosidase with IC50s ranging between 0.76 and 355.1 μg/ml. Compounds 1, 2, 5, 6, 9, 14, and 15 showed significant inhibition of yeast α-glucosidase, being even more potent ones than the used positive inhibitor acarbose (IC50=2.50±0.21 μg/ml)
