Definition of display/control requirements for assault transport night/adverse weather capability

A Helicopter Night Vision System was developed to improve low-altitude night and/or adverse weather assult transport capabilities. Man-in-the-loop simulation experiments were performed to define the minimum display and control requirements for the assult transport mission and investigate forward looking infrared sensor requirements, along with alternative displays such as panel mounted displays (PMD) helmet mounted displays (HMD), and integrated control display units. Also explored were navigation requirements, pilot/copilot interaction, and overall cockpit arrangement. Pilot use of an HMD and copilot use of a PMD appear as both the preferred and most effective night navigation combination

From combinations to multitarget-directed ligands: A continuum in Alzheimer's disease polypharmacology

The continued drug discovery failures in complex neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease (AD), has raised questions about the classical paradigm \u201cone-drug, one-target, one-disease.\u201d In parallel, the ever-increasing awareness of the multiplicity of the underlying pathways has led to the affirmation of polypharmacological approaches. Polypharmacology, which broadly embodies the use of pharmaceutical agents acting on multiple targets, seems to be the best way to restore the complex diseased network and to provide disease-modifying effects in AD. In this review, our aim is to provide a roadmap into a world that is still only partly explored and that should be seen as a continuum of pharmacological opportunities, from drug combinations to multitarget-directed ligands (both codrugs and hybrids). Each modality has unique features that can be effectively exploited by medicinal chemists. We argue that understanding their advantages and drawbacks is very helpful in choosing a proper approach and developing successful AD multitarget drug-discovery endeavors. We also briefly dwell on (co)target validation, an aspect that is quite often neglected, but critical for an efficient clinical translation. We substantiate our discussion with instructive examples taken from the recent literature. Our wish is that, in spite of the specter of the high attrition rates, best researchers preferring to enter, stay, and progress in the field would help grow the sector and develop AD polypharmacology to full potential

The Jewish Issue in Islamic Radicalism: historicity, impact and evolutions

This article focuses on the long‐term ideological vision of Jews and Israel in radical Islam. By examining, on the one hand, the animosity towards Judeo‐Israelis in the spawning and bolstering of Islamist, Salafist and Jihadist movements, and on the other hand, the sociological composition of Jihadist elites related to the Israeli‐Palestinian conflict, I show the centrality of the Judeophobic discourse in the world of radical Islam as well as the importance of Israel in its reinforcement. By trying to historicize this discourse, as well as political and strategic movements linked with the State of Israel, I also question the nature of the hostility towards Judaism, and more specifically the role of the Israeli issue in the development and evolution of the most radical and violent forms of Muslim identity over nearly a century
