Multiple representations in the Romanian literature class

    Get PDF
AbstractMy research was carried out with high school students from the Math and Computer science. The aim was to support them overcome their difficulties in the study of Romanian literature, to find a purpose for this study as well as to learn and read for pleasure. I tried to check if multiple representations, in the sense of Gardner in the Disciplined Mind, are able to enlarge the students’ cultural understanding and to help them internalise the operational concepts in the literature curriculum. The results sustain the benefits of multiple intelligences-based approaches in literature teaching

Ion-Pair Spectrophotometry in Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis: Challenges and Perspectives

    Get PDF
Experimental and theoretical studies of the mechanisms that underlay ion-pair formation, their properties and applications in various fields have been and still are focused by researchers since the introduction of the concept in 1926, by Bjerrum. Ion pairs are distinct chemical entities, electrically neutral, formed between ions of opposite charge and held together by Coulomb forces, without formation of a covalent bond. Investigation methods used are various, from classical conductometric measurements to up-to-date methods, such as spectrophotometry, chromatography and capillary electrophoresis. In the pharmaceutical field, ion pairs were used to develop methods of separation, identification and assay for the active substances in complex matrices, to obtain pharmaceutical formulations with controlled release and to explain the mechanisms of transport and action for certain drugs. The chapter is an attempt to describe new trends in the spectrophotometry of ion pairs and their applications in the pharmaceutical field. The development of the concept and types of ion pairs are first presented; further, examples of applications using molecular absorption, fluorimetry and resonance light scattering spectrophotometry are presented. Based on the literature data and the authors’ experience in the field, challenges and perspectives in the ion-pair spectrophotometry are also considered

Sustainable Success in Higher Education by Sharing the Best Practices as a Result of Benchmarking Process

    Get PDF
The paper proposes to review the main benchmarking criteria, based on the quality indicators used by the higher education institutions and to present new indicators of reference as a result of the inter-universities cooperation. Once these indicators are defined, a national database could be created and through benchmarking methods, there could be established the level of national performance of the educational system. Going forward and generalizing the process, we can compare the national educational system with the European one, using the benchmarking approach. The final purpose is that of establishing a group of universities who come together to explore opportunities for benchmarks and best practices sharing on common interest areas in order to create a „quality culture” for the Romanian higher education system.benchmarking, higher education, best practices, quality indicators, quality culture

A RESEARCH ON THE EDUCATIONAL COUNSELING AND CAREER GUIDANCE IN ROMANIA

    Get PDF
Young people need counseling and guidance to be able to discover abilities, inclinations and to outline their future. Career guidance and counseling should be made permanent from primary and secondary education. With a permanent reformed educational system that does not value counseling and vocational guidance of scholars, Romanian educational system has a major minus. But the insufficiency of counselors in the preuniversity education, determines the high rate of disorientation of the potential students in choosing the faculty that they want to graduate from, or worse, determines school dropout. The article aims to present the main results of a sociological research conducted in two regions of Romania on a number of 900 students, in order to underline the need and usefulness of counseling and vocational guidance

Adipose tissue accumulation of endocrine disrupting compounds: Variant of a common theme in exposome research

    Get PDF
Today, a wide variety of exogenous agents (xenobiotic) collectively termed endocrine disrupting compounds (EDC) includes almost 1000 synthetic chemicals. The group of EDC is highly heterogeneous and embodies chemicals used as industrial solvents and their by-products (persistent organic pollutants and dioxins), plastics (bisphenol A) and various pesticides, herbicides and industrial pollutions. The concept of endocrine disruption refers to exogenous chemicals present in the environment, including the food and drugs that affect human`s hormonal systems. Both epidemiological and experimental evidence suggest an association between exposure to EDC and diabetes and related cardio metabolic disorders. These compounds are not just accumulate in the white adipose tissue, but also release into the blood circulation and exhibit their pathogenic effects on various organs. The present review is focused on the factors influencing the accumulation, metabolism and release of EDC in the white adipose tissue

TLC Applications on separation and quantification of fat-soluble vitamins

    Get PDF
Abstract The history of vitamins, one of the most important chapters in the history of Biochemistry, had a profound impact on health and wellbeing, as well as on understanding the catalytic processes acting in the metabolism of living organisms. Since antiquity it has been known that there is a direct relation between illness and nourishment. A great number of methods have been developed to determine the content of fat-soluble vitamins in pharmaceutical products. Though much less accurate than the other methods recommended in monographs, the thinlayer chromatography -TLC -finds its well deserved place among the analysis methods, when the relatively costly equipments involved by other methods are not available

Some Peculiarities of the Xanthium italicum Moretti Germination Process

    Get PDF
AbstractFruit formations of Xanthium italicum were gathered from plants, sand and a river bank. They were put in germination conditions to observe how this process takes places and what the seedlings’ growth rate is in the early stages, until the first true leaf appears. Data were processed by variance analysis; using the Duncan test, the correlations between germination and seedlings’ growth in X. italicum and the place of sampling the anthodiums was highlighted. The fruit formations’ harvesting site influences the germination process, the finding being statistically significant; between the length of hypocotyl and cotyledons there is a distinct correlation, statistically significant (r = 0.908) regardless of the place of harvest
