On the dynamics of social conflicts: looking for the Black Swan
This paper deals with the modeling of social competition, possibly resulting
in the onset of extreme conflicts. More precisely, we discuss models describing
the interplay between individual competition for wealth distribution that, when
coupled with political stances coming from support or opposition to a
government, may give rise to strongly self-enhanced effects. The latter may be
thought of as the early stages of massive, unpredictable events known as Black
Swans, although no analysis of any fully-developed Black Swan is provided here.
Our approach makes use of the framework of the kinetic theory for active
particles, where nonlinear interactions among subjects are modeled according to
game-theoretical tools.Comment: 26 pages, 7 figure
Reaction-diffusion systems: a mathematical biology approach
This book is addressed at curricula in applied mathematics, bio-physics, bio-mathematics, and theoretical biology and medicine. It is proposed as an advanced textbook for graduate interdisciplinary courses having as a common point the interest in modelling and simulation of tumoural systems. The aim of this volume is to give both types of readers a common starting block, and complete knowledge of the mathematical and biological aspects of tumor growth. In the chapters contributed by an interdisciplinary team of leading researchers, this book addresses the entire modelling process, from phenomenological observations to simulation and validation, through the development of mathematical models and their qualitative and quantitative study. In the 13 chapters of the 38 authors there are 3 features. The first explores the mathematical models and computer simulation techniques used to gain insight into the growth and development of tumors. The second provides an overview of the processes involved in tumor development and growth. The third presents the state of the art in deterministic modelling approaches, such as mechanical and reaction-diffusion systems
Análisis de series temporales pluviométricas en la Cuenca del Duero
Time series of monthly rainfall values, given in mm/m2, for eight stations in the Spanish Duero river basin are analysed. They have been recorded during a long period of time, ranging from 83 to 140 years. Box-Jenkins techniques of identification, estimation and verification are employed to determine seasonal and non seasonal models. The seasonal model for the eight series has been identified as ARIMA (0,1,1) type. The results of the analysis show that the topography is a significant factor and, in some measure, explain higher mean annual values of rainfall in the north and western stations (Burgos 38.6, León 45.0 y Soria 45.4) than in the south and eastern locations; Salamanca 23.0 and Zamora 28.5. The seasonal analysis confirms the known patterns described as dry winters and summers with rainy springs and autumn
Remarks on accessible steady states for some coagulation-fragmentation systems
In this paper we consider some systems of ordinary differential equations which are related to coagulation-fragmentation processes. In particular, we obtain explicit solutions of such systems which involve certain coefficients obtained by solving a suitable algebraic recurrence relation. The coefficients are derived in two relevant cases: the high-functionality limit and the Flory-Stockmayer model. The solutions thus obtained are polydisperse (that is, is different from zero for all ) and may exhibit monotonically increasing or decreasing total mass. We also solve a monodisperse case (where is different from zero but is equal to zero for all ) in the high-functionality limit. In contrast to the previous result, the corresponding solution is now shown to display a sol-gel transition when the total initial mass is larger than one, but not when such mass is less than or equal to one
The process of developing the so-called Number 7 Action Unity of the Alcoy PGOU into real state led to an archaeological intervention at the site where Vicente Pascual documented, in the 1950’s of the 20th century, a silo, which was identified by other authors as calcolithic. The excavation of the said silo and the extending working area by the firm ARQUEALIA has proven the Late Roman chronology of this and other existing negative structures.

On the limit of solutions of ut=Δum as m→∞
Let f∈L1(RN), N≥1, f≥0, and consider the Cauchy problem ut=Δum on ]0,∞[×RN, u(0,⋅)=f on RN. The authors prove that as m→∞, the corresponding solutions um(t)→u_=f+Δw in L1(RN), uniformly for t in a compact set in ]0,∞[, where 0≤w_∈L1(Rn) is the solution of the variational inequality Δw_∈L1(RN), 0≤f+Δw_≤1, w_(f+Δw_ −1)=0 a.e. The authors also show similar results for the same equation on a bounded open set Ω in RN with Dirichlet or Neumann boundary condition
Indicadores del desarrollo e implantación de la sociedad de la información: un capítulo pendiente
