The littoral sea cucumbers (Echinodermata: Holothuroidea) of Guam re-assessed - a diversity curve that still does not asymptote

The Micronesian island of Guam has been an important site for the study of littoral tropical holothuriantaxonomy for almost 200 years. Despite substantial attention by both expeditions and resident taxonomists, new records arestill regularly added to the fauna, demonstrating the challenge of documenting even such large and well-known animals ina small hyper-diverse area. Guam is the type locality of species described by Quoy & Gaimard (1833) and Brandt (1835).A survey of the sea cucumber fauna by Rowe & Doty (1977) led to one of the most used guides for the identification oftropical Pacific sea cucumbers because of the color illustrations of living animals it presented. Focus on echinodermsincluding holothurians continued with numerous new records added in the following decades. Paulay (2003a) summarizedthe fauna last, recording 46-47 species. At this stage the fauna was thought to be well documented. A week-long workshopon holothurian systematics sponsored by the National Science Foundation PEET (Partnerships for Enhancing Expertise inTaxonomy) project in 2010 included a substantial field work component, sampling both during the day and night, withsnorkeling and SCUBA, across a variety of habitats. This survey yielded 40 species, including numerous new records andeven species. Further sampling by Kerr’s lab since the workshop has added additional records. The littoral holothuroidfauna of Guam now comprises 65 species in 17 genera and 7 families. Half of the 19 newly recorded species are the resultof unravelling cryptic species in complexes, the other half are based on new collections. Eleven species are known fromsingle specimens, suggesting that much still remains to be learned about the fauna

Reabsorções radiculares induzidas pelo tratamento ortodôntico: Fixo vs. Removível.

O tratamento ortodôntico é a principal causa de reabsorções radiculares inflamatórias apicais, porque baseia-se num sistema de equilíbrio entre as atividades osteoblasticas e osteoclasticas (remodelação do osso alveolar, do ligamento periodontal e do cemento) para conseguir movimentar as raízes ao fim de restaurar as funcionalidades e estética dos dentes. O objetivo deste estudo foi realizar uma revisão de literatura integrativa para comparar o impacto de diferentes aparelhos ortodônticos: fixos e alinhadores removíveis, nas reabsorções radiculares apicais externas induzidas pelo tratamento ortodôntico. Foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica no PubMed (via MeSH Database) envolvendo artigos publicados nos 10 últimos anos, usando a combinação dos seguintes termos científicos: ortodontia corretiva, técnicas de movimentação dentária; terapia de mal oclusão; reabsorção radicular e efeitos adversos. A pesquisa identificou 228 estudos, dos quais 14 foram considerados relevantes para este estudo. Esses estudos forneceram dados importantes sobre o número de pacientes afetados pelas reabsorções radiculares durante o tratamento ortodôntico com diferentes tipos de aparelhos, sobre o tipo de dente mais afetado e a quantidade de raiz reabsorvida, mas também evidenciam uma série de fatores determinantes. A presença destes fatores que influenciam o aparecimento das reabsorções radiculares, parece ser mais importante do que o tipo de aparelhos propriamente ditos. O protocolo deve, portanto, ser adaptado, de preferência utilizando forças leves e intermitentes e um acompanhamento regular com CBCT

Barcelone 1900-1910 : la construction d’un espace symbolique

En racontant le passé à l'aide de monuments, de noms de rue et de plaques commémoratives, la mémoire constitue la ville en un espace de représentation politique. Cet article étudie la relation établie entre mémoire et espace urbain à Barcelone au début du xxe siècle. Les logiques d'inscription de la mémoire dans la ville à la fin du xixe siècle changent radicalement avec les nouvelles conceptions développées par le noucentisme à partir de 1906, c'est-à-dire par le mouvement artistique et culturel qui prétendit définir les canons d'un art national catalan.By telling the past with the help of monuments, street names and memorial slabs, the memory redefines the town as a space of political representation. This article is a study of the relationship established between memory and urban space in Barcelona at the turn of the 20th Century. The usual processes of inscribing on memory underwent a radical change in the last years of the 19th Century thanks to the new concepts developed by the noucentism, from 1906 onwards, that artistic and cultural movement which boasted the authorship of a new set of rules for a Catalan national art.Relatando el pasado con monumentos, nombres de calle y placas conmemorativas, la memoria constituye la ciudad en un espacio de representación política. Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Extracorporeal Photopheresis for the Treatment of Steroid-Refractory Chronic Graft-Versus-Host Disease

A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines, followed by a feasibility assessment (FA) to assess potential between-study heterogeneity in the meta-analysis (MA). Random-effects MAs were performed for overall survival (OS), failure-free survival (FFS), overall response rate (ORR) and skin-specific response. A subgroup analysis was conducted to explore the effect of NIH assessment criteria. The SLR identified 627 records; 45 unique studies were ultimately included in the MA. For patients treated with ECP, at Month 12, the pooled OS rate was 83.97% and the pooled FFS rate was 60.79%. ORR was 45.34% at Months 3 to 4 and 58.23% at Months 6 to 8. Subgroup analyses showed no significant difference in ORR between studies utilizing NIH criteria and those utilizing non-NIH criteria. Skin-specific response was 34.86% at Months 2 to 3 and 54.22% at Months 4 to 6. There was considerable heterogeneity across all analyses, with I2 values ranging from 65% to 91%. This SLR and MA indicates that ECP results in favorable outcomes in the treatment of SR-cGvHD, including OS, FFS and ORR.This study was funded by Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals
