My passion for traveling, photography, watercolor painting, and textile design were fused together to create my piece titled, “A Rainy Day in the City.” From a distinct memory of my first, rainy day in Paris, France, I created a watercolor painting based on my photographs. The Use of Chemicals with Specific Mode of Action in an Integrated Control Program on Eggplant for the Greenhouse Whitefly, Triαleurodes vαporαriorum

Στα μη θερμαινόμενα πλαστικά θερμοκήπια της Κρήτης συνήθως υπάρχει ανάγκη χρησιμοποίησης χημικών εντομοκτόνων για την αντιμετώπιση του αλευρώδη των θερμοκηπίων (Τ. vaporariorum) κατά τη χημερινή περίοδο. Το διασυστηματικό εντομοκτόνο Vydate όταν εφαρμόζεται στην κοκκώδη μορφή και στην υψηλότερη δόση των 2 gr/φυτό έδωσε καλή προστασία από τον αλευρώδη στα μικρά φυτά μελιτζάνας για μια περίοδο πέντε (5) εβδομάδων. Πειράματα με διάφορα χημικά εντομοκτόνα έδειξαν ότι ο νέος ρυθμιστής της ανάπτυξης των εντόμων (Momolt) είναι αρκετά αποτελεσματικός στην αντιμετώπιση του αλευρώδη των θερμοκηπίων όταν χρησιμοποιήθηκε σε συνδυασμό με Acteric. Σε σύγκριση με το συνδυασμό Applaud και Actellic έδωσε εξ ίσου καλά αποτελέσματα.In the unheated plastic greenhouses of Crete, the control of the greenhouse whitefly Trialeurodes vaporariorum Westwood using chemicals is usually needed during winter time. The systemic insecticide Vydate when applied as soil granules at the highest dose (2g/plant), gave protection for young eggplants against whitefly for a period of 5 weeks. Experiment with different chemicals showed that the new insect growth regulator Nomolt, is fairly effective in controlling the greenhouse whitefly when used in combination with Actellic. It gave equally good results when compared with a mixture of Applaud and Actellic

The application of an Integrated Control on Eggplant for the Greenhouse Whitefly, Triαleurodes vαporαriorum

Μελετήθηκε η ολοκληρωμένη καταπολέμηση του Trialeurodes vaporatiorum στη μελιτζάνα με τη χρησιμοποίηση φυσικών (παγίδες), χημικών και βιολογικών μεθόδων. Ο πλέον αποτελεσματικός συνδυασμός ήταν η χρησιμοποίηση Quinomethionate και παγίδων. Μίγμα Applaud και Actellic ήταν αρκετά αποτελεσματικό για την καταπολέμηση των εντόμων. Βιολογική καταπολέμηση με το παρασιτοειδές Encarsia formosa (Gahan) είχε ως αποτέλεσμα μέτρια αλλά επαρκή καταπολέμηση όταν συνδυάστηκε με παγίδες. Οι παγίδες μόνες τους έδωσαν ικανοποιητικά αποτελέσματα.Όλες οι μεταχειρίσεις ήταν αποτελεσματικές στη μείωση του πληθυσμού του εντόμου σε ικανοποιητικό επίπεδο σε σύγκριση με πληθυσμούς που δεν υπέστησαν καμιά μεταχείριση. Η αναλογία απελευθέρωσης παρασιτοειδούς:ξενιστή έπαιξε σημαντικό ρόλο στα αποτελέσματα της βιολογικής καταπολέμησης χρησιμοποιώντας την E. formosa. Η υψηλότερη αναλογία απελευθέρωσης.4:1 παρασιτοειδούς:ξενιστή, έδωσε το υψηλότερο ποσοιπό παρασιτισμού.Integrated control of the greenhouse whitefly on eggplant, using physical (traps), chemical and biological methods, was tested. The mort efficient combination was the use of Quinomethionate and traps. Applaud and Actellic mixture was fairly effective in controlling the greenhouse whitefly. Biological control by the parasite Encarsia formosa (Gahan), resulted in moderate, but adequate control when combined with traps. Traps clone gave reasonable results. All treatments were effective in reducing whitefly population to a satisfactory low level, when compared to the untreated populations. Parasitoid/host release ratio play an important rote in the results of biological control using E. formosa. The higher relcase ratio of 4:1, parasitoid:host, gave the maximum parasitization percentage

A SiGe HEMT Mixer IC with Low Conversion Loss

The authors present the first SiGe HEMT mixer integrated circuit. The active mixer stage, operating up to 10GHz RF, has been designed and realized using a 0.1µ µµ µm gate length transistor technology. The design is based on a new large-signal simulation model developed for the SiGe HEMT. Good agreement between simulation and measurement is reached. The mixer exhibits 4.0dB and 4.7dB conversion loss when down-converting 3.0GHz and 6.0GHz signals, respectively, to an intermediate frequency of 500MHz using high-side injection of 5dBm local oscillator power. Conversion loss is less than 8dB for RF frequencies up to 10GHz with a mixer linearity of –8.8dBm input related 1dB compression point

This paper focusses on how the plague moves through the spatial coordinates of three of the earliest and most canonical narratives of epidemic disease in Western literature: the opening episode of Homer’s Iliad (1.1-487), the opening scenes of Sophocles’s Oedipus the King (1-215) and the digression on the Athenian plague in book 2 of Thucydides’s History of the Peloponnesian War (2.47.3-2.54). The paper undertakes an examination of some of the key strategies that the three narratives employ for their representation of the movement of the plague through space. It argues that the movement of the plague is disruptive for narrative as a static structure of physically and symbolically distinct and autonomous spaces but also formative for narrative as a dynamic network of spaces that are porous and interconnected. The paper also argues that we cannot fully account for the transformative power of plague narratives without focusing on spatial operations which, rather than protecting the boundaries of the narrative, bridge the divide between the world of the narrative and the world of its readers, listeners or spectators
