The teaching methods in aesthetics in relation to the labour market needs in Cyprus

When selecting the topic I would deal with for the completion of my master, I set as a goal the upgrading and recognition of the profession of the Beautician by offering an upgraded programme of study at Cyprus College. Being a professional beautician and the owner of a Beauty Salon since 1990, as well as a Professor of Aesthetics since 2005, I have had countless experiences in this area. As a professional in the field, I often come across people who received "bad" services "from other colleagues." Unfortunately, I can ascertain that this is true as I participated in many seminars where I met professional beauticians whose educational level was below standard. Even my efforts to employ an assistant at my beauty salon were often disappointing. So, although teaching was one of my childhood dreams which was replaced by Aesthetics as I grew up, the idea of teaching courses related to Aesthetics began to take shape after the experiences I described above. I therefore started my efforts to obtain a diploma in teaching so as to be able to transmit as much information as possible in this field, but at the same time to get to know what was going on in the various colleges in Cyprus. All the above, enabled me and made me want to investigate, and in the process, develop Aesthetic education in my country. The topic I will present in this project is "The Teaching Methods in Aesthetics in Relation to the Labour Market Needs in Cyprus". My aim is to clarify, analyze and develop the weaknesses and limitations that emerge from the various programmes of study in Cyprus through the answers I got from the different groups of people that participated in my research. Having studied and quoted the background theory of the issues that are necessary and essential in education, especially for programmes such as aesthetics, I will present the findings of my research as well as my own ideas and suggestions, so that the theory has a positive reflection on the research questions I posed at the beginning of the project. The presentation and analysis of some statistical data is another element that reflects the need for research in the labour market. The approach used to yield my research findings was the qualitative approach which involved the use of secondary data analysis and focus group interviews. One of the main problems identified is the lack of skills of graduates of two-year programmes of study. Through my proposed three-year programme of study, which ran as a pilot programme for four consecutive years, we get the answers to the research questions I initially set, since innovative methods in Aesthetic education in Cyprus start being implemented. Finally, I would like to emphasize that it is not enough for someone to hold academic qualifications, to have skills, principles and a good character. It is our obligation to respond, through our qualifications of course, to the respective legislation of the state we belong to. It is proved through my research that the delay in the implementation of the Legislation for Beauticians was a suppressive factor in upgrading the profession of the beautician. This legislation was implemented recently, in the summer 2013. So, the programme of study of Cyprus College, gives its graduates the legal opportunity and possibility to get employed immediately at this difficult time that the island is going through

Interacting Dark Energy and the Cosmic Coincidence Problem

The introduction of an interaction for dark energy to the standard cosmology offers a potential solution to the cosmic coincidence problem. We examine the conditions on the dark energy density that must be satisfied for this scenario to be realized. Under some general conditions we find a stable attractor for the evolution of the Universe in the future. Holographic conjectures for the dark energy offer some specific examples of models with the desired properties.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, Phys. Rev. D versio

Combined flavor symmetry violation and lepton number violation in neutrino physics

Heavy singlet neutrinos admit Majorana masses which are not possible for the Standard Model particles. This suggest new possibilities for generating the masses and mixing angles of light neutrinos. We present a model of neutrino physics which combines the source of lepton number violation with the flavor symmetry responsible for the hierarchy in the charged lepton and quark sector. This is accomplished by giving the scalar field effecting the lepton number violation a nonzero charge under the horizontal flavor symmetry. We find an economical model which is consistent with the measured values of the atmospheric and solar neutrino mass-squares and mixing angles.Comment: 6 pages, no figures (published version

An Interacting Dark Energy Model for the Expansion History of the Universe

We explore a model of interacting dark energy where the dark energy density is related by the holographic principle to the Hubble parameter, and the decay of the dark energy into matter occurs at a rate comparable to the current value of the Hubble parameter. We find this gives a good fit to the observational data supporting an accelerating Universe, and the model represents a possible alternative interpretation of the expansion history of the Universe.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, Phys. Signals for Low Scale Gravity in the Process γγ→ZZ\gamma \gamma \to ZZ

We investigate the sensitivity of future photon-photon colliders to low scale gravity scenarios via the process γγ→ZZ\gamma\gamma \to ZZ where the Kaluza-Klein boson exchange contributes only when the initial state photons have opposite helicity. We contrast this with the situation for the process γγ→γγ\gamma \gamma \to \gamma \gamma where the tt and uu channel also contribute. We include the one-loop Standard Model background whose interference with the graviton exchange determines the experimental reach in measuring any deviation from the Standard Model expectations and explore how polarization can be exploited to enhance the signal over background. We find that a 1 TeV linear collider has an experimental reach to mass scale of about 4 TeV in this channel.Comment: 20 pages, 8 figure

How Lived Experiences Shape the Identities of First-Generation Greek Immigrants

This qualitative study provides insight into many aspects of the assimilation of the Greek immigrant into American society. The study participants were members of a seniors club which met monthly at a Greek Orthodox Church. The seniors participated in activities that blended elements from both Greek and American traditions to have fun, catch up with friends, celebrate life\u27s events, and navigate the changes associated with aging in a safe, controlled environment. Data were collected through: participant observations over a three and a half year period, conducting interviews, listening to seniors present their life stories and documenting the discussions that followed. The theories of John Dewey, Fesmire\u27s work on Moral Imagination and Aesthetic Representation, and Fasching\u27s and deChant\u27s, Comparative Religious Ethics, were used to explore issues of identity and meaning in social interactions, as well as how cultural settings affect the meaning individuals derive from their experiences. The study identifies critical transitions and adaptations from living a purely Greek lifestyle to one incorporating American elements- a hybrid Greek-American identity. Researchers and policy-makers alike can apply the methods used in this study to understand how immigrant experience affects the assimilation of immigrant populations into American society and find ways to promote the development of a positive ethnic-American identity
