Venous malformations in children - a literature review

Introduction: Venous malformations are congenital, the most occurring subtype of vascular malformations. They are characterized by slow flow, tortuosity and lack of macular layer within the vessel. Venous malformations can be highly problematic to diagnose and treat, thus differentiation the venous malformations with other diseases in pediatric population is important.   Aim of the study: The aim of the study is to summarize the available knowledge about venous malformation in pediatric population. The options in diagnosis, treatment and potential new methods were summarized and described. Materials and methods The literature available in the PubMed database was reviewed using the following keywords: “Vascular malformations”, “Venous Malformations”, “Venous malformations treatment, “Children”. Conclusions: Venous malformations are an important problem in pediatric population, as a seldom affliction they can be easily misdiagnosed as other diseases and treated inadequately. Widening of awareness of venous malformations and possible methods of diagnosing and treating them is very important to raise quality of health care in children

IQOS - new heat-not-burn tobacco products and its impact on health

Introduction: Iqos and other heat-not-burn products according to tobacco companies are a safer alternative to cigarettes. The aim of this article is to objectively review the potential impact of iQOS® on human health by searching for and integrating published research findings. This article provides a comprehensive review and analysis of the scientific research conducted on the effects of Iqos use on human health, distinguishing between specific medical fields. Materials and methods: This study is based on medical articles collected from the PubMed database spanning the years 2016-2023. The research was conducted through the analysis of keywords such as "Iqos", "Heat not burn", and "Iqos health impact".  Results: Tobacco heaters are seen as potentially less harmful. However, emerging research on their harmfulness clearly shows that despite reduced concentrations of compounds hazardous to health, the aerosol produced by heaters still contains the same harmful substances. Further studies show that the toxic impact of the aerosol is at a similar level to that of smoke from traditional cigarettes

Gender differences in early maladaptive schemas development. Research conducted on a group of adolescents experiencing domestic violence

Doznawanie przemocy w rodzinie może prowadzić do poważnych następstw, szczególnie w grupie osób młodych o niedojrzałym aparacie psychicznym. W przeprowadzonych badaniach analizowano różnice płciowe w rozwoju wczesnych nieadaptacyjnych schematów w grupie nastolatków. Badania przeprowadzono w grupie 68 nastolatków w wieku 14–17 lat, którzy w rodzinie pochodzenia doświadczyli przemocy ze strony jednego z rodziców lub opiekunów. Osoby badane wypełniły Kwestionariusz traumy dziecięcej, Kwestionariusza schematów Younga i ankietę z danymi socjometrycznymi. Wykazano, że mimo zbliżonych wyników w formach i natężeniu doznawanej przemocy wystąpiły różnice płciowe w rozwoju wczesnych nieadaptacyjnych schematów. W grupie nastolatków płci męskiej, odmiennie niż u dziewczyn, odnotowano związek między doznawaniem przemocy a nasileniem schematów ze wszystkich pięciu kategorii. Ponadto zarówno wynik ogólny, jak i nasilenie schematów z kategorii słaba autonomia oraz nadmierna czujność i zahamowanie były znacząco wyższe w grupie męskiej.Domestic violence can lead to serious consequences, especially in the group of young people with immature mental apparatus. The study analysed gender differences in the development of early maladaptive schemas in the adolescent group. The study was conducted in a group of 68 teenagers aged between 14 and 17 years who experienced violence in their family of origin by one of their parents or caregivers. Respondents completed the Children’s Trauma Questionnaire, Young’s Schemas Questionnaire, and answered questions about sociometric data. The results showed that despite similarities in forms and intensity of violence, there were gender differences in the development of early maladaptive schemas. In a group of male adolescents, different from females, there was a correlation between the experience of violence and the intensity of the schemas in all five domains. Moreover, both the overall result and the intensity of the schemas in the categories of impaired autonomy and overvigilance / inhibition were significantly higher in the male group

Physical Recreation of People with Disabilities – Inhabitants of the Poznań Metropolis. Selected Study

Presented results are part of a broader study on the metropolitan region as the space of recreational penetration. It employed diagnostic survey and the tool used was the questionnaire prepared by the authors. The purpose of the following paper is to characterize selected aspects of physical recreation only of inhabitants with disabilities of the Poznań metropolis. It presents below only the results concerning the basic information of physical recreation of this social group, without the analysis of the conditionality of the participations in this kind of leisure time activities. The study results indicate that the participation of people with disabilities in physical recreation near and away from their place of residence is low. Respondents prefer weekend activity near their place of residence and the forms of recreation are not very diverse. They usually use small recreation and sports facilities or they use outdoor infrastructure. Enhanced involvement of people with disabilities in physical recreation together with personalized, adjusted to a given dysfunction offer is required
