In her article Canonization and Ba Jin\u27s (李堯棠 1904-2005) Work in Chinese and US-American Scholarship Miaomiao Wang discusses the reception of and scholarship on a major Chinese author. Wang explores similarities of and differences in studies on Ba\u27s work in China and the U.S. and analyses the reasons for different viewpoints including research methods and reasons which motivates(d) Chinese and U.S. scholars to study Ba\u27s work. Wang argues that her analysis will be beneficial for Chinese scholars in order to learn about the present situation of studies on Ba\u27s work in US-American scholarship and thus effect a change—as limited this may be—in the scholarship about the processes of canonization. Wang\u27s study suggests that in Chinese and US-American scholarship on processes of canonization there is no sufficient interaction and thus in the case of Ba\u27s work Wang\u27s analysis is about the question whether the Western canon of literary scholarship has had an impact on Chinese scholarship

Nonlinear Observer for Visual-Inertial Navigation Using Intermittent Landmark Measurements

The development of reliable orientation, position and linear velocity estimation algorithms for the 3D visual-inertial navigation system (VINS) is instrumental in many applications, such as autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). It is extremely important when the global position system (GPS) is not available in GPS-denied environments. Recently, observers design for VINS using landmark position measurements from Kinect sensors or stereo cameras has been increasingly investigated in the literature. The aim of this work is to design a nonlinear observer for VINS under the assumption that landmark position measurements are intermittent. In practice, the landmark measurements are not continuous due to computation cost from image processing, which is different from most of the existing results relying on continuous landmark measurements. The proposed nonlinear observer, motivated from the classical linear Kalman filter, has two parts: continuous prediction using inertial measurement unit and previous landmark measurements, and instantaneous state updating upon the arrival of new landmark measurements. Almost global asymptotic stability (AGAS) has been achieved by applying the framework of the hybrid dynamical system, which means that the estimated state will asymptotically converge to the real state of the visual-inertial navigation system for almost all initial conditions. We strongly believe that our developed estimation tool will not only benefit the area of aerial vehicles engineering but also the robotics and biomedical engineering community

The phenomenon of variation is common in texts ofdifferent literatures and cultures. For the development ofComparative Literature in China, in order to break through thelinguistic barriers between Eastern and Western civilizations, the Chinese Professor Cao Shunqing develops the VariationTheory of Comparative Literature in 2005. The VariationTheory of Comparative Literature is a valuable integration of allcontemporary disciplines. It ranges from transnational variationstudies, cross-language variation studies, cross-cultural variationstudies, cross-civilization variation studies, to the images of“otherness” studies, etc. The paper is trying to analyze Pa Chin’snovel Cold Nights of bilingual format in Chinese and Englishfrom the perspective of creative treason in cross-languagevariation studies from three aspects: domestication andforeignization translating method of translator’s individualizedtranslation; mistranslation and omissions; abridged translationcompilation and adaptation. Based on the original translationprinciple as “Faithfulness, Expressiveness, and Elegance”, thepaper tries to search for the variations in cross-languages in theliterary translation and its deep hidden causes from the aspectsof language, culture, history, and local custom in Pa Chin’s ColdNights

Explorar la contribución de la regulación emocional Interpersonal al desarrollo profesional sostenible y el bienestar de los profesores de EFL antes de servir

There is a large body of research endorsing the role of interpersonal skills and emotion regulation in English as a foreign language teachers’ professionalism and psychological states. However, scant research has been done on pre-service EFL teachers’ interpersonal emotion regulation (IER) and the way it can contribute to their sustainable professional development (SPD) and sense of wellbeing. To bridge the gap, this qualitative study examined the perceptions of 34 Chinese pre-service EFL teachers regarding such an interplay using a semi-structured interview. The results of content and thematic analysis revealed that IER strategies used by pre-service EFL teachers had different contributions to their SPD and wellbeing by establishing ‘a supportive learning environment’, ‘strong classroom rapport’, ‘interpersonal communication’, and ‘emotional literacy’. Furthermore, it was indicated that the participants used different activities and practices to regulate and balance their IER strategies to gain SPD and wellbeing including ‘self-oriented’, ‘other-oriented’, and ‘professional development’ activities. The study ends in a discussion of the findings and presents a number of conclusions and future lines of research considering the impact of interpersonal emotions and their regulation on EFL teachers’ professionalism and wellbeing.

A Large-field J=1-0 Survey of CO and Its Isotopologues Toward the Cassiopeia A Supernova Remnant

We have conducted a large-field simultaneous survey of 12^{12}CO, 13^{13}CO, and C18^{18}O J=10J=1-0 emission toward the Cassiopeia A (Cas A) supernova remnant (SNR), which covers a sky area of 3.5×3.13.5^{\circ}\times3.1^{\circ}. The Cas giant molecular cloud (GMC) mainly consists of three individual clouds with masses on the order of 104105 M10^4-10^5\ M_{\odot}. The total mass derived from the 13CO\rm{^{13}CO} emission of the GMC is 2.1×105 M\times10^{5}\ M_{\odot} and is 9.5×105 M\times10^5\ M_{\odot} from the 12CO\rm{^{12}CO} emission. Two regions with broadened (6-7 km s1^{-1}) or asymmetric 12^{12}CO line profiles are found in the vicinity (within a 10×10'\times10' region) of the Cas A SNR, indicating possible interactions between the SNR and the GMC. Using the GAUSSCLUMPS algorithm, 547 13^{13}CO clumps are identified in the GMC, 54%\% of which are supercritical (i.e. αvir<2\alpha_{\rm{vir}}<2). The mass spectrum of the molecular clumps follows a power-law distribution with an exponent of 2.20-2.20. The pixel-by-pixel column density of the GMC can be fitted with a log-normal probability distribution function (N-PDF). The median column density of molecular hydrogen in the GMC is 1.6×10211.6\times10^{21} cm2^{-2} and half the mass of the GMC is contained in regions with H2_2 column density lower than 3×10213\times10^{21} cm2^{-2}, which is well below the threshold of star formation. The distribution of the YSO candidates in the region shows no agglomeration.Comment: 24 pages, 18 figure
