    Scanning tunneling microscopy study of the possible topological surface states in BiTeCl

    Recently, the non-centrosymmetric bismuth tellurohalides such as BiTeCl are being studied as possible candidates of topological insulators. While some photoemission studies showed that BiTeCl is an inversion asymmetric topological insulator, others showed that it is a normal semiconductor with Rashba splitting. Meanwhile, first-principle calculationsfailed to confirm the existence of topological surface states in BiTeCl so far. Therefore, the topological nature of BiTeCl requires further investigation. Here we report low temperature scanning tunneling microscopy study on the surface states of BiTeCl single crystals. On the tellurium-terminated surfaces with low defect density, strong evidences for topological surface states are found in the quasi-particle interference patterns generated by the scattering of these states, both in the anisotropy of the scattering vectors and the fast decay of the interference near step edges. Meanwhile, on samples with much higher defect densities, we observed surface states that behave differently.     Traffic-aware multiple mix zone placement for protecting location privacy

    Abstract—Privacy protection is of critical concern to Location-Based Service (LBS) users in mobile networks. Long-term pseudonyms, although appear to be anonymous, in fact em-power third-party service providers to continuously track users’ movements. Researchers have proposed the mix zone model to allow pseudonym changes in protected areas. In this paper, we investigate a new form of privacy attack to the LBS system that an adversary reveals a user’s true identity and complete moving tra-jectory with the aid of side information. We propose a new metric to quantify the system’s resilience to such attacks, and suggest using multiple mix zones to tackle this problem. A mathematical model is presented that treats the deployment of multiple mix zones as a cost constrained optimization problem. Furthermore, the influence of traffic density is also taken into account to enhance the protection effectiveness. The placement optimization problem is NP-hard. We therefore design two heuristic algorithms as practical and effective means to strategically select mix zone locations, and consequently reduce the privacy risks of mobile users trajectories. The effectiveness of our proposed solutions is demonstrated through extensive simulations on real-world mobile user data traces. I

    Low ABA concentration promotes root growth and hydrotropism through relief of ABA INSENSITIVE 1-mediated inhibition of plasma membrane H+-ATPase 2

    [EN] The hab1-1abi1-2abi2-2pp2ca-1 quadruple mutant (Qabi2-2) seedlings lacking key negative regulators of ABA signaling, namely, clade A protein phosphatases type 2C (PP2Cs), show more apoplastic H+ efflux in roots and display an enhanced root growth under normal medium or water stress medium compared to the wild type. The presence of low ABA concentration (0.1 micromolar), inhibiting PP2C activity via monomeric ABA receptors, enhances root apoplastic H+ efflux and growth of the wild type, resembling the Qabi2-2 phenotype in normal medium. Qabi2-2 seedlings also demonstrate increased hydrotropism compared to the wild type in obliquely-oriented hydrotropic experimental system, and asymmetric H+ efflux in root elongation zone is crucial for root hydrotropism.     A Novel CdSe/ZnS Quantum Dots Fluorescence Assay Based on Molecularly Imprinted Sensitive Membranes for Determination of Triazophos Residues in Cabbage and Apple

    In the present study we have developed a direct competitive CdSe/ZnS quantum dot (QD) fluorescence assay based on micro-array-imprinted membranes for the determination of triazophos in cabbage and apple. The imprinted membranes were directly synthesized on the surface of a 96-well plate by thermal polymerization using triadimefon as the dummy template. Under optimal conditions, the assay showed an excellent linear response over the concentration ranges of 0.1–10,000 μg L−1 with a good coefficient of determination (R2= 0.982). The sensitivity (IC50) and limit of detection (LOD, expressed as IC15) of the developed assay were 3.63 mg L−1 and 0.31 μg L−1, respectively. The applicability of the developed approach was tested for detecting triazophos in incurred samples. The method showed excellent recoveries (109.6–118.9%) and relative standard deviations (RSDs) between 9.9 and 19.5%. The obtained results correlated well with those obtained by LC-MS/MS (R2= 0.9995). The competitive assay using CdSe/ZnS QDs as fluorescence-labeled probe showed good sensitivity, steady and fast response, and excellent anti-interference ability compared to conventional fluorescence-quenching methods. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed methodology was successfully applied for detection of triazophos in real samples
