Inward investment, employment and government policies in Wales

    Get PDF
This empirical paper examines the links between multinational enterprises’ countries of origin, types of inbound foreign direct investment (IFDI), related capital investment levels and the resultant effects on regional employment in Wales, a peripheral region of the UK. Longitudinal, official data are used to examine the relationships between these variables, making use of statistical techniques. The findings are used to make recommendations for inward investment policy development in Wales, focusing on the targeting of IFDI from those countries of origin whose multinational enterprises appear likely to contribute most to the future creation and safeguarding of regional employment

Investigation of a GaN-Based SAW Oscillator with respect to UV Illumination and Temperature

    No full text
Oscillation frequency of a GaN-based surface acoustic wave delay-line oscillator is investigated in the temperature range from -20°C to +38°C, with and without UV illumination. The results imply that such an oscillator may be used for temperature sensing with the resolution of up to 1 mK. On the other hand, as the frequency downshift due to UV illumination does not exhibit a significant dependence on temperature, it may be expected that such a system, when used as a UV sensor, would not require applying a correction for temperature

Specialisation in agricultural and food exports of Lithuania

The analysed research problem answer the question of how the changing trade conditions affect Lithuanian agricultural and food exports. The paper aims to assess the level of specialization in the agricultural and food sector exports of Lithuania. Assessment of the level of specialization was based on calculation of the trade coverage, revealed comparative advantage and intra-industry trade indices and their aggregation. Empirical research covers the period of 1999–2014. The export of agricultural and food products of Lithuania has been positively affected by trade liberalisation and achieved the effect of synergy due to regional integration processes (membership in the EU). It is characterised by high level of specialisation; nevertheless, this does not contribute to increasing of added value in agriculture

Research Analysis of Conflicting Behaviour Peculiarities Among Student Athletes

    No full text
Almost always there is a certain degree of tension, irritation, and conflicts among athletes of various types of sports. The objective of the research is to evaluate conflicting behaviour of student wrestlers in the public safety faculties (PSF) at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) and Mykolas Romeris University (MRU). In the introduction of the research, conflict descriptions, types, criteria, solutions, and psychological climate factors as theorized by different authors are introduced. Survey data on student athletes is analyzed. In addition to this, psychological climate and predominant features among wrestling teams in higher education schools are assessed and emerging conflict types and solutions are determined. Finally, the differences in athletes and coaches‘ evaluation of psychological climate and indications are described
