Focal Cortical Dysplasia with hippocampal sclerosis

    Get PDF
Focal Cortical Dysplasia (FCD) is a group of focal developmental malformations of the cerebral cortex cytoarchitecture. FCD usually manifests as medically intractable epilepsy, especially in young children. Live patients are diagnosed by radiological examination such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG PET), magnetoencephalography (MEG), diffusion-tensor imaging (DTI), and intracranial electroencephalogram (EEG). While some cases can be missed by radiological examination, they are usually diagnosed on the histopathological examination of the surgically removed specimens of medically intractable epilepsy patients. We report a case of a young girl with cerebral palsy, mental retardation, and seizure disorder who died in her sleep. The deceased was diagnosed with FCD type III with hippocampal sclerosis on histopathological examination at autopsy. H & E stain and NeuN immunohistochemistry neuronal cell marker were used to demonstrate the findings of FCD

    Get PDF
The increasing prevalence of e-commerce has empowered consumers with vast choices and opportunities for online shopping. This research paper focuses on two essential aspects of online shopping: price comparison and sentiment analysis of product reviews. The paper presents a methodology for scraping product prices from multiple e-commerce websites and conducting sentiment analysis on the corresponding product reviews. The findings of this research have significant implications for both consumers and e-commerce businesses. Consumers can leverage price comparison data to identify the most cost-effective platforms for their desired products, while sentiment analysis enables them to assess the overall satisfaction levels of other customers. E-commerce businesses can utilize these insights to optimize pricing strategies, identify areas for improvement, and enhance customer experiences. Performance analysis of Support Vector Machine, Logistic Regression, VADER Lexicon and SentiWordNet Lexicon is also done

Antiangiogenic activity of zinc and zinc-sorafenib combination using the chick chorioallantoic membrane assay: a descriptive study

    Get PDF
Background: Zinc, a trace element, is known for downregulating several proangiogenic growth factors and cytokines. However, its antiangiogenic activity is not adequately studied. The present study was aimed to evaluate the possible antiangiogenic activity of zinc via the chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay. Also, the antiangiogenic activity of the combination therapy of zinc with various doses of sorafenib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, was evaluated. Methods: A pilot study was initially conducted so as to select suitable doses of zinc and sorafenib. The antiangiogenic activity after combining zinc 2.5 μg/embryo with sorafenib 1, and 2 μg/embryo was also evaluated. The antiangiogenic activity was quantified in terms of total length of blood vessels, number of junctions, number of branching points, and mean length of the blood vessels. Results: Zinc 2.5 μg/embryo showed significant (p 0.05) to that of sorafenib 2 μg/embryo.Conclusions: Zinc caused significant antiangiogenic activity in the CAM assay. The lack of addition/synergism in the zinc-sorafenib combination could have been due to the variability in the dose/ratio selection. Addition of zinc to sorafenib therapy could improve treatment tolerability, reduce cost of therapy, and reduce the emergence of drug resistance. Future mechanistic studies could identify the exact pharmacodynamics of zinc as an angiogenesis inhibitor

Context: The platelet rich fibrin (PRF) is second generation platelet concentrate that has been widely used and researched for stimulation and acceleration of soft tissue and osseous healing. Its continuous delivery of growth factors and proteins mimic the need of physiological wound healing and regenerative tissue processes. Aims and Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of PRF in osseous regeneration after enucleation of cystic lesions. The objectives of this study were: (1) To evaluate osseous regeneration radiographically with the use of PRF in intrabony defects after cystic enucleation. (2) To evaluate the degree of bone density in intrabony defects with the use of PRF postoperatively after 1 st , 3 rd , and 6 th months. Subjects and Methods: 10 cases of cystic lesions were treated using PRF after cystic enucleation. Follow-up radiographs (orthopantomogram) were taken 1 st , 3 rd , and 6 th months postoperatively. Bone density was measured with grayscale histogram using Adobe Photoshop 7.0 software. Results: The subsequent follow-up examinations revealed progressive, predictable, and significant radiographic osseous regeneration. Conclusion: The use of PRF in management of cystic lesions seems to be a novel therapeutic approach promoting faster osseous regeneration within 6 months postoperatively however further study is required with larger sample size and with a control group

A rare presentation of Sinonasal Undifferentiated Carcinoma with brain metastasis and para-aortic mass

Sinonasal Undifferentiated carcinoma (SNUC) comprises 3% of the head and neck tumors, including metastatic neoplasms. Herein we report the case of a 60-year-old male who was brought dead to our institute with previous records of a contrastenhanced CT scan of the brain and MRI with evidence of tumor in the maxillary sinus with intracranial extensions. The histopathological examination of the mass in the maxillary sinus proved to be SNUC with metastases to the brain, lungs, and around the aorta. These tumors are undifferentiated and are distinct from other poorly differentiated tumors in deriving their origin from the Schneiderian epithelium. The aggressive nature of the tumor renders the prognosis quite dismal. SNUCs need to be early recognized and distinguished from other poorly differentiated carcinomas with the help of immunohistochemistry

    Recent trends in caries diagnosis

To create opportunity for a preventive approach to the management of caries, it is important to keep abreast of developments in diagnostic systems. It is apparent that conventional methods for the detection of dental canes do not fulfill the criteria for an ideal canes detection method. These methods rely on subjective interpretation and are insensitive to early canes detection. To overcome these shortcomings, researchers are developing advanced techniques. These not only detect mineral loss but also quantify it

    Benign Cementoblastoma

The benign cementoblastoma also called as ′true cementoma′. It is rare odontogenic tumor representing less than 1% of all odontogenic tumors. Norberg initially described it in 1930. The WHO defines the benign cementoblastoma as "a neoplasm characterized by the formation of sheds of cementum like tissue which may contain a very large number of reversal line and may be unmineralized at the periphery of the mass or in the more active growth areas. 3 The benign cementoblastoma occurs most frequently under the age of the 25 years with slight predilection for males. Cementoblastoma can occur in both maxilla and the mandible. The mandible however, is involved three times more frequently than maxilla. The mandibular first permanent molar is the most frequently affected tooth. This article describes the rare case of benign Cementoblastoma occurred in a 13-year-old girl with its radiological and histological features

A planned complex suicide: Cut injury to the wrist with corrosive acid poisoning

    Get PDF
A planned complex suicide is the complex action mechanism, formerly planned to protect the victim of suicide from failure. A 22-year old undergraduate student was found dead at his home in the toilet with a cut injury to the left wrist. Autopsy findings revealed an incised wound at the left wrist along with signs of corrosive acid poisoning. Death scene investigation confirmed it as a case of planned complex suicide. To the best of our knowledge combination of methods used in this case is unique and has not been reported previously. The sequence of events in this case was difficult to determine as both the methods used viz. cut wrist and corrosive acid poisoning were sufficient to cause death individually. Also the duration between the events must have been so less that the sequence of events was difficult to be determined

According to recent, Criminal Law (Amendment) Act 2013, age of consent in India has been increased from 16 to 18 years. Implications of the amendments made, are vastly reflected in data collected in our study. Aim of the study was to evaluate data in relation to incidences of alleged sexually abused victims and to contemplate their socio demographic profile with history and examination and also to assess the effect of increase in age of consent for sexual intercourse. This study was conducted on 58 cases of alleged sexual assault brought to Seth G.S. Medical College, K.E.M. Hospital, Mumbai, from September 2013 to February 2015. Out of 58 victims of alleged sexual assault, the most affected age group was 10-19 years i.e. 34 cases (58.62 %), while 18 cases (31.03%) were in the age group of 16-18 years. The highest number of victims 18 (31.03 %) were brought for examination more than three weeks after incident resulting in loss of vital trace evidences. 58.62% of victims knew the assailant. In consensual relationships, breach of trust resulted in complaint of sexual assault, thus crime was registered under Section 375 IPC. Our study critically analyzes entailments of Criminal law amendment act, 2013; in relation to the data collected. Reductions in age of consent, in order to protect rights of young persons aged 16-18 years to engage in consensual sexual activity should be deliberated.</p
