Looking for bSM physics using top-quark polarization and decay-lepton kinematic asymmetries

We explore beyond Standard Model (bSM) physics signatures in the l+jetsl+jets channel of ttt\overline{t} pair production process at the Tevatron and the LHC. We study the effects of bSM physics scenarios on the top quark polarization and on the kinematics of the decay leptons. To this end, we construct asymmetries using the lepton energy and angular distributions. Further, we find their correlations with the top polarization, net charge asymmetry and top forward backward asymmetry. We show that used together, these observables can help discriminate effectively between SM and different bSM scenarios which can lead to varying degrees of top polarization at the Tevatron as well as the LHC. We use two types of coloured mediator models to demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed observables, an ss-channel axigluon and a uu-channel diquark.Comment: 39 pages, 10 figures and 4 tables. The placement of a strongly trans-influencing ligand on a ruthenium center opposite an anchoring silyl group of the tetradentate tripodal tris(phosphino)silyl ligand, [SiP^(Ph)_3]^− ([SiP^(Ph)_3]^− = tris(2-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl)silyl), has been explored. Installation of alkyl or terminal phosphide ligands trans to the anchoring silyl group affords the complexes [SiPPh3]RuR (R = Me (2), CH_2Ph (4), PPh_2 (5), P^iPr_2 (6)). Complexes 2, 4, and 5 are thermally unstable. Complexes 2 and 4 decay to the cyclometalated complex [SiP^(Ph)_2P′^(Ph)]Ru (3), whereas complex 5 decays to the cyclometalated phosphine adduct [SiP^(Ph)_2P′^(Ph)]Ru(PHPh_2) (7). Complex 3 is found to effect E−H (E = H, C, Si, Ge) bond activation of substrates such as secondary silanes and germanes to yield the structurally unusual silylene complexes [SiP^(Ph)_3]Ru(H)(SiRR′) (R = R′ = Ph (10a), R = Ph R′ = Me (10b)) and the germylene complex [SiP^(Ph)_3]Ru(H)(GeR_2) (R = Ph) (11) via double E−H activation transformations. Both theory and experiments suggest electrophilic character at the silylene moiety. Reaction of 3 with catecholborane, in contrast to silanes and germanes, results in insertion of the B−H unit into the M−C bond of the cyclometalated species to yield the borate complex [SiP^(Ph)_2P^(Ph)-B(cat)]Ru(μ-H) (14). Complex 3 also reacts with bis(catecholato)diboron to yield a similar complex, [SiP^(Ph)_2P^(C6H3B(cat))-B(cat)]Ru(μ-H) (15), with selective borylation of an ortho C−H bond

    Virtual numbers for virtual machines?

    Get PDF
Knowing the number of virtual machines (VMs) that a cloud physical hardware can (further) support is critical as it has implications on provisioning and hardware procurement. However, current methods for estimating the maximum number of VMs possible on a given hardware is usually the ratio of the specifications of a VM to the underlying cloud hardware’s specifications. Such naive and linear estimation methods mostly yield impractical limits as to how many VMs the hardware can actually support. It was found that if we base on the naive division method, user experience on VMs at those limits would be severely degraded. In this paper, we demonstrate through experimental results, the significant gap between the limits derived using the estimation method mentioned above and the actual situation. We believe for a more practicable estimation of the limits of the underlying infrastructure

Hotel industry is one of the important industries that play a major role in economy of every country. The rapid expansion increases the challenges among competitors. For one to succeed in the business, the business must be market oriented and customer driven. Within a strategic-planning framework, managers must make critical marketing decisions. The purpose of this study was to contribute to the general understanding of market orientation and to assist managers in determining antecedents that contributes to market orientation as well as to understand the consequences of applying market orientation in the hotel industry. This study was conducted, by proposing a theoretical framework made from Kohli and Jaworski Model, to investigate the relationship between antecedents of market orientation as well the consequences of market orientation in hotel industry of Penang. A questionnaire was generated from the Kohli and Jaworski (1993) research

Natural Language Query in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Domains Based on Cognition Search™

    Get PDF
Motivation: With the tremendous growth in scientific literature, it is necessary to improve upon the standard pattern matching style of the available search engines. Semantic NLP may be the solution to this problem. Cognition Search (CSIR) is a natural language technology. It is best used by asking a simple question that might be answered in textual data being queried, such as MEDLINE. CSIR has a large English dictionary and semantic database. Cognition’s semantic map enables the search process to be based on meaning rather than statistical word pattern matching and, therefore, returns more complete and relevant results. The Cognition Search engine uses downward reasoning and synonymy which also improves recall. It improves precision through phrase parsing and word sense disambiguation.
Result: Here we have carried out several projects to "teach" the CSIR lexicon medical, biochemical and molecular biological language and acronyms from curated web-based free sources. Vocabulary from the Alliance for Cell Signaling (AfCS), the Human Genome Nomenclature Consortium (HGNC), the United Medical Language System (UMLS) Meta-thesaurus, and The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) was introduced into the CSIR dictionary and curated. The resulting system was used to interpret MEDLINE abstracts. Meaning-based search of MEDLINE abstracts yields high precision (estimated at >90%), and high recall (estimated at >90%), where synonym information has been encoded. The present implementation can be found at http://MEDLINE.cognition.com.

Bulk and thin films of FeTe: A Moessbauer study

    Get PDF
Studies of bulk and thin films of FeTe using Moessbauer spectroscopy showed that FeTe has one noncubic Fe (+2) site which is 3d2 4s 4p3 hybridized. The presence of dangling bands was indicated in spectra of FeTe thin films. The films showed a tendency of texture formation. The substrate was observed to influence the film structure and nature of bonds in films

Moessbauer studies in zinc-manganese ferrites for use in measuring small velocities and accelerations with great precision

    Get PDF
Mossbauer spectroscopy was used for a systematic study of the magnetic behavior of manganese and zinc in mixed ferrites. It was observed that Zn2+ has preference to substitute Mn2+ at interstitial sites where the metal ions are tetrahedrally coordinated with four oxygen neighbors. The internal magnetic hyperfine field at the tetrahedral iron site is larger than that at the octahedral site. The relaxation effects were observed to play an important role as the zinc contents were increased, while the spin-correlation time and the magnetic field were observed to decrease in strength. It is concluded that Mossbauer effect data on complex materials, when used in conjunction with other data, can provide useful insight into the origin of the microscopic properties of magnetic materials
