Convergence: How Five Trends Will Reshape the Social Sector

This report highlights five key trends and how their coming together will shape the social sector of the future. Based on extensive review of existing research and in-depth interviews with thought leaders and nonprofit leaders and activists, it explores the trends (Demographic Shifts; Technological Advances; Networks Enabling Work to be Organized in New Ways; Rising Interest in Civic Engagement and Volunteerism; and Blurring of Sector Boundaries) and looks at the ways nonprofits can successfully navigate the changes. Proposta de Projeto para a Requalificação da Zona Desportiva da Pelariga, Pombal

O tema desta dissertação trata de um estudo teórico-prático sobre a requalificação de uma zona e complexo desportivo na freguesia da Pelariga, Pombal, do clube local cujo desenvolvimento tem sido gradual, visando colmatar as lacunas existentes para uma boa pratica desportiva e gestão dos recursos que não abastecem a demanda existente. O desporto representa vários fatores para a sociedade de quem a realiza, na prática de atividades físicas, que beneficia a saúde e melhora as aptidões físicas, na interação social com terceiros, cultivando novos contactos e habilidades para comunicar com diferentes públicos, e na sensibilização de regras impostas nos diferentes desportos, orientado esses costumes para o dia-a-dia na sociedade. A dissertação assenta numa observação, sintetizada e bem direcionada sobre o presente, na busca de casos desfavoráveis e de casos favoráveis, tanto a nível das instalações existentes, na restruturação/ampliação dos edifícios de apoio, a nível de planeamento urbano, na reorganização da zona desportiva, regional. Será desenvolvido uma investigação nesse sentido, contextualizando essas temáticas de modo a realizar uma proposta de caracter urbano, abrangendo as necessidades e a importância da sua presença na comunidade, nas mais-valias que ira oferecer a população local e circundante, notabilizando o potencial que a área possui, local amplo e com boa localização atuais e futuras do clube para o seu desenvolvimento, procurando obter um projeto plausível e razoável, tendo noção que os fundos para instituições locais não são abundantes. Neste contexto, esta dissertação pretende desenvolver projetos de arquitetura, no sentido de modernizar e requalificar a zona desportiva num centro de referencia local para a pratica de desporto, de atividade e de lazer, atraindo a população de diversas idades e beneficiar todas as partes envolvidas.The theme of this dissertation is a theoretical and practical study about the requalification of a sports complex in the parish of Pelariga, municipality of Pombal, belonging to the local football club, that has shown a gradual development, aiming to fill the gaps to obtain a good sports practice and management of resources that do not fulfill the existing demand at the moment. Sports represent several factors for the society who performs it, whether in physical activities, that benefit health and improve physical skills, in social interaction with others, cultivating new contacts and skills to communicate with different audiences or even in sensitizing people to rules imposed on different sports, guiding these habits for the daily life in society. The dissertation is based on an observation, summarized and well-focused on the present seeking for unfavorable and favorable cases, whether in terms of the existing facilities, the restructure/expansion of support buildings, the urban planning, the sports facilities reorganization, the importance of its presence for the community or the value that it will have for the local and surrounding population, bringing out the potential of the area, which is large and in a good regional location. In this sense, an investigation will be developed, contextualizing these issues, in order to make an urban proposal, in search of the current and future needs of the club for its development, seeking a plausible and reasonable design, bearing in mind that the funds to local institutions are not abundant. In this context, this work aims to develop architectural projects to modernize and upgrade the sports facilities in a local reference center for the practice of sports, activities and leisure, attracting people of different ages and benefiting all parts involved

As dimensões religiosa e estética nos Sermões de Vieira

Pretendo enfatizar nesse artigo, que os estudiosos reconhecem que os Sermões do Padre Antônio Vieira, se dão notadamente, em duas dimensões: a dimensão estética, como apresenta a inscrição da obra na literatura, e a dimensão religiosa que acaba sendo o seu traço mais destacado. Quero destacar esses dois aspectos dos textos vieirinhos, percebendo neles a estratégia que o jesuíta utilizou com singular habilidade. Para fazer progredir, ainda mais, a palavra divina, Vieira se valeu dos recursos estéticos com a clara intenção de convencer o receptor, o que é, ao fim, o alvo que seus sermões buscavam atingir. Quero destacar dois sermões e um escrito profético: Sermão do Mandato; nele o pregador desenvolve o tema do amor divino. Vieira busca a imagem de Cupido, o menino com que os antigos representam o amor. O Sermão da Sexagésima, em que resume a arte de pregar. O escrito profético, História do Futuro; onde Vieira, através de figuras de linguagens, desenvolve o mito do Quinto Império

O objetivo desse artigo, é enfatizar que o pontificado de Francisco, desde à sua gênese é evidenciado pela alegria, simplicidade, bondade, ternura, esperança, amor e fé. Francisco tem conclamado à Igreja com toda a urgência da santidade e que ela deve se voltar, de forma evangelicalmente preferencial, aos pobres, doentes, marginalizados, às periferias. Assim como São Francisco de Assis, o seu pontificado é marcado por uma Igreja samaritana, cuidadora, plural, ecumênica, dialogal e ecológica. Não se esqueçam de rezar por mim, é o pedido de Francisco, desde seu primeiro dia de pontificado

A espiritualidade nos sermões de Paul Tillich

O objetivo desse artigo, é enfatizar a vida devocional de um dos mais importantes teólogos de todos os tempos. Embora Paul Tillich fosse essencialmente pensador e erudito, sua vida acadêmica jamais o afastou do púlpito. A relação de Tillich com a vida pastoral, está evidenciada em seus sermões. A vida eclesial sempre fez parte dele. A espiritualidade ocupou espaço relevante em seu dia a dia. Tillich abordava questões teológicas profundas com uma linguagem simples, como um meio prático de aproximar seus ouvintes da mensagem do evangelho.  A trajetória de Tillich como capelão, pastor e pregador, o levou a refletir sobre uma profunda espiritualidade, deixando sobressair o ser humano por traz do teólogo

Delocalization of the height function of the six-vertex model

We show that the height function of the six-vertex model, in the parameter range $\mathbf a=\mathbf b=1$ and $\mathbf c\ge1$, is delocalized with logarithmic variance when $\mathbf c\le 2$. This complements the earlier proven localization for $\mathbf c>2$. Our proof relies on Russo--Seymour--Welsh type arguments, and on the local behaviour of the free energy of the cylindrical six-vertex model, as a function of the unbalance between the number of up and down arrows.Comment: 54 pages, 16 figure

Unsupervised learning universal critical behavior via the intrinsic dimension

The identification of universal properties from minimally processed data sets is one goal of machine learning techniques applied to statistical physics. Here, we study how the minimum number of variables needed to accurately describe the important features of a data set - the intrinsic dimension ($I_d$) - behaves in the vicinity of phase transitions. We employ state-of-the-art nearest neighbors-based $I_d$-estimators to compute the $I_d$ of raw Monte Carlo thermal configurations across different phase transitions: first-, second-order and Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless. For all the considered cases, we find that the $I_d$ uniquely characterizes the transition regime. The finite-size analysis of the $I_d$ allows not just to identify critical points with an accuracy comparable with methods that rely on {\it a priori} identification of order parameters, but also to determine the corresponding (critical) exponent $\nu$ in case of continuous transitions. For the case of topological transitions, this analysis overcomes the reported limitations affecting other unsupervised learning methods. Our work reveals how raw data sets display unique signatures of universal behavior in the absence of any dimensional reduction scheme, and suggest direct parallelism between conventional order parameters in real space, and the intrinsic dimension in the data space

AN EXPLORATORY ASSESSMENT OF THE GAPS FOR HEALTH INNOVATION IN BRAZIL:CHALLENGES AND A PROPOSED RESEARCH AGENDA

Policies and health actions generate benefits that extrapolate the specificity of its purpose of providing welfare for the population, given its recognized impact in generating technological innovations, employment and income. However, such progress levels are unevenly distributed in countries, so that certain diseases and allocative and ethical questions associated with the development of new mechanisms for diagnosis, of treatment and cure did not find satisfactory answers yet. In Brazil, such a scenario has not been shown different, demanding a wider discussion encompassing the country’s economic and social conditions. Contrasting the analytical and empirical results observed in policies and actions toward the Health Economic-Industrial Complex (CEIS) to establish the barriers as well as structural and economic opportunities for the promotion of health innovations in Brazil, this work raises a number of critical considerations in view of identifying and systematizing gaps in health innovation in the country, thereby proposing a positive comprehensive research agenda on the topic
