In recent years, the use of nucleic acid-based drugs to treat and prevent diseases has become increasingly important. Last year, two nanovaccines based on synthetic messenger RNAs (mRNAs) encoding viral proteins were approved by the FDA against COVID-19, successfully demonstrating the applicability of synthetic mRNAs for infectious disease prevention

WOS:000557483500001Quality of work life (QWL) is important to healthcare organisations that aim to increase patient and employee satisfaction and produce quality healthcare services. The literature lacks research investigating the relationship between QWL and burnout among in healthcare professionals. The purpose of this study is to determine healthcare workers' QWL and burnout levels and to investigate whether there is a correlation them. The research population consisted of all healthcare workers serving in a public hospital in Ankara. The study did not make a sample selection but tried to access the entire population; a total of 328 usable surveys were obtained. 'Quality of Work Life Scale' and 'Maslach Burnout Inventory' scales were used for this research. A correlation analysis was performed to determine the correlation between healthcare workers' QWL and burnout levels. The analysis results showed that healthcare workers had 'good' perceived QWL and 'moderate' level of burnout. Additionally, there was a statistically significant but weak correlation between healthcare workers' levels of QWL and burnout (rho = 0.184; p = 0.0008). Results can be used by healthcare managers to implement appropriate initiatives to improve QWL and reduce burnout of healthcare workers

WOS: 000481718600012Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate epidemiological, clinical, laboratory and treatment features and treatment response of brucellosis patients followed in a public hospital in the Eastern Anatolia. Methods: Ninety-six patients treated after the diagnosis of brucellosis were evaluated retrospectively. Results: The mean age of the patients was 53 +/- 33.9 years (range 15-84 years), and 55 (57%) of them were female. 36 (38%) of the patients were housewives, 17 (18%) were dealing with livestock, and 25 (26%) were living in rural areas. 75 (78%) of the cases had an acute presentation. Consumption of unpasteurized milk or dairy products was the most common route of transmission. The main symptoms were fever, malaise, arthralgia, myalgia, and sweating. Fever, hepatomegaly and splenomegaly were the most common signs. Increased C-reactive protein and erythrocyte sedimentation rate were found in 46%, and 41% of the cases. Hepatitis was present in 38%, hematological involvement in 33%, gastrointestinal involvement in 22%, osteoarticular involvement in 5%, skin involvement in 2% and depression in 1% of the cases. The most frequent treatment regimen was doxycycline and streptomycin. No treatment failure or relapses were observed for one year after treatment. Conclusions: Brucellosis is an infection with multiple clinical presentations. It should be noted that prognosis is strongly associated with early suspicion, diagnosis, and appropriate treatment, especially in endemic countries such as Turkey

Histopathological Diagnostic Dilemma in Retrorectal Developmental Cysts: Report of a Case and Review of the Literature

    No full text
Retrorectal developmental cysts are lesions that are classified according to their histopathological characteristics and origins. The major types are epidermoid cyst, dermoid cyst, rectal duplication cyst, rectal cystic hamartoma and teratoma. These cysts grow slowly and the majority of cases are asymptomatic. Total excision is required and histopathological examination should be carefully performed for retrorectal localized developmental cysts, since the cystic lesions may show malignant transformation. Here, a 3-year-old male patient with retrorectal mass, which was histopathologically compatible with tailgut cyst, is presented and the differential diagnosis of retrorectal developmental cysts is discussed
