Reactive Crystallization of Paracetamol in a Continuous Oscillatory Baffled Reactor
In this article,
we report, for the first time, a reactive seeded
cooling crystallization of paracetamol successfully performed in a
continuous oscillatory baffled reactor (COBR). The synthesis of acetaminophen
took place in the first part of the COBR and generated the solvent
for crystallization via a specific ratio of starting materials. Seeded
cooling crystallization was immediately commenced after the completion
of the reaction in the second part of the COBR. We investigated the
seeding strategy of three seed masses (10, 15, and 20 w/w%) at a fixed
size in this work, enabling smooth and encrustation-free runs. We
also estimated agglomeration by comparing the ideal to actual normalized
product/seed sizes, which was confirmed by SEM images. The effect
of mixing intensity on crystal properties was reported. Samples at
two ports a known distance apart along the COBR enabled the study
of steady states of the paracetamol concentration and crystal mean
size in both temporal and spatial domains as well as the determination
of the local and overall growth rates. Form I paracetamol particles
were consistently produced with an average purity of 99.96%
Race/Ethnicity, Color-Blind Racial Attitudes, and Multicultural Counseling Competence: The Moderating Effects of Multicultural Counseling Training
Increasing trainees' multicultural counseling competence (MCC) has been a hot topic in counseling. Scholars have identified predictors (e.g., race/ethnicity, color-blindness) of MCC, and educators provide multicultural training for trainees. Using a sample of 370 psychology trainees, this study examined whether multicultural training (a) moderated racial/ethnic differences on MCC and (b) changed the relationship between color-blindness and MCC. Results indicated a significant interaction effect of race/ethnicity (i.e., White vs. ethnic minority) and multicultural training on multicultural awareness, but not on multicultural knowledge. Specifically, at lower levels of training, racial/ethnic minority trainees had significantly higher multicultural awareness than their White counterparts; at higher levels of training, no significant difference was found. Described differently, more training significantly enhanced Whites' multicultural awareness, but did not enhance racial/ethnic minority trainees' awareness. Additionally, there was a significant interaction effect of color-blindness and multicultural training on multicultural knowledge, but not on multicultural awareness. The association between color-blindness and multicultural knowledge was stronger at higher levels of multicultural training than at lower levels of training. Alternatively, the effect of training on enhancing knowledge was stronger for those with lower color-blindness than for those with higher color-blindness
Circulating cell-free DNA and IL-10 from cerebrospinal fluids aid primary vitreoretinal lymphoma diagnosis
Primary vitreoretinal lymphoma (PVRL) is a rare variant of primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) that presents diagnostic challenges. Here, we focused on circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) isolated from cerebrospinal fluid. Twenty-three VRL patients (17 PVRL, 2 PCNSL/O, and 4 relapsed VRL, from 10/2018 to 12/2021) and 8 uveitis patients were included in this study. CSF samples from 19 vitreoretinal lymphoma patients had sufficient cfDNA for next-generation sequencing. Of these patients, 73.7% (14/19) had at least one meaningful non-Hodgkin lymphoma-related mutation. The characteristic MYD88L265P mutation was detected in the CSF of 12 VRL patients, with a sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) of 63.2%, 100%, 100%, and 46.2%, respectively. No meaningful lymphoma related mutations were found in CSF samples from uveitis controls with typical intraocular lesions. Meanwhile, CSF IL-10 levels were elevated in 95.7% of the VRL patients, with a sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and NPV of 95.7%, 100%, 100% and 88.9%, respectively. Key somatic mutations like MYD88L265P and CD79B detected from CSF cfDNA and elevated CSF IL-10 levels can be promising adjuncts for primary vitreoretinal lymphoma diagnosis
Concept for a Future Super Proton-Proton Collider
Following the discovery of the Higgs boson at LHC, new large colliders are
being studied by the international high-energy community to explore Higgs
physics in detail and new physics beyond the Standard Model. In China, a
two-stage circular collider project CEPC-SPPC is proposed, with the first stage
CEPC (Circular Electron Positron Collier, a so-called Higgs factory) focused on
Higgs physics, and the second stage SPPC (Super Proton-Proton Collider) focused
on new physics beyond the Standard Model. This paper discusses this second
stage.Comment: 34 pages, 8 figures, 5 table
Potential of Core-Collapse Supernova Neutrino Detection at JUNO
JUNO is an underground neutrino observatory under construction in Jiangmen, China. It uses 20kton liquid scintillator as target, which enables it to detect supernova burst neutrinos of a large statistics for the next galactic core-collapse supernova (CCSN) and also pre-supernova neutrinos from the nearby CCSN progenitors. All flavors of supernova burst neutrinos can be detected by JUNO via several interaction channels, including inverse beta decay, elastic scattering on electron and proton, interactions on C12 nuclei, etc. This retains the possibility for JUNO to reconstruct the energy spectra of supernova burst neutrinos of all flavors. The real time monitoring systems based on FPGA and DAQ are under development in JUNO, which allow prompt alert and trigger-less data acquisition of CCSN events. The alert performances of both monitoring systems have been thoroughly studied using simulations. Moreover, once a CCSN is tagged, the system can give fast characterizations, such as directionality and light curve
Detection of the Diffuse Supernova Neutrino Background with JUNO
As an underground multi-purpose neutrino detector with 20 kton liquid scintillator, Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is competitive with and complementary to the water-Cherenkov detectors on the search for the diffuse supernova neutrino background (DSNB). Typical supernova models predict 2-4 events per year within the optimal observation window in the JUNO detector. The dominant background is from the neutral-current (NC) interaction of atmospheric neutrinos with 12C nuclei, which surpasses the DSNB by more than one order of magnitude. We evaluated the systematic uncertainty of NC background from the spread of a variety of data-driven models and further developed a method to determine NC background within 15\% with {\it{in}} {\it{situ}} measurements after ten years of running. Besides, the NC-like backgrounds can be effectively suppressed by the intrinsic pulse-shape discrimination (PSD) capabilities of liquid scintillators. In this talk, I will present in detail the improvements on NC background uncertainty evaluation, PSD discriminator development, and finally, the potential of DSNB sensitivity in JUNO
Advisory Working Alliance, Perceived English Proficiency, and Acculturative Stress
[[abstract]]The aim of this study was to examine the moderators of (a) general or cross-cultural advisory working alliances and (b) perceived English proficiency on the association between acculturative stress and psychological distress. A total of 143 East Asian international students completed an online survey. Results from a hierarchical regression indicated significant three-way interactions of (a) General Advisory Working Alliances × Perceived English Proficiency × Acculturative Stress on Psychological Distress and (b) Cross-Cultural Advisory Working Alliances × Perceived English Proficiency × Acculturative Stress on Psychological Distress. Specifically, the present results indicated that acculturative stress was significantly associated with psychological distress only when students perceived lower English proficiency and had a stronger general or cross-cultural advisory working alliance. However, acculturative stress was not significantly related to psychological distress when these students perceived lower English proficiency and had a weaker advisory working alliance (i.e., general or cross-cultural). In addition, acculturative stress was also not significantly related to psychological distress when these students perceived higher English proficiency and had a stronger or weaker advisory working alliance (i.e., general or cross-cultural).[[journaltype]]國外[[booktype]]紙本[[countrycodes]]US
