Case Report: Uncontrolled Anasarca: Capillary Leak Syndrome
INTRODUCTION
Capillary leak syndrome (CLS) is a rare clinical disease that causes edema, hypoproteinemia, episodic hypotension, dyspnea, hyponatremia, and weight gain that can be life threatening1. Although the underlying pathology is currently unknown, CLS is thought to be secondary to a systemic process associated with hyperpermeability of the body\u27s microcirculation, resulting from a diffuse and severe disruption of the endothelium and causing generalized edema and often acute respiratory distress2
Option & Option Strategies
The main aim of this dissertation is to project the working of Options and Option Strategies. Also to show how important it is to understand that before implementing any strategy it is essential to have a view on the market and understand the strategy and its outcome. Along with the qualitative description the quantitative description of the returns associated with the Options strategies also will be depicted. In order to show the working various aspects of Option Trading have been considered. It begins with the Introduction to Options and Option sensitivities. This is followed by a Literature review comprising of the relationship between the call and put prices as well as the relationship between the option and stock prices. Also the option pricing model, namely the Black Scholes Model has been highlighted. Later on, explanations have been given on a few Options Strategies followed by position created on the market taking historical data into consideration in order to explain the overall outcome of the Strategies described depending upon the market whether the market is Bullish, Neutral or Bearish. The market used to project this is the National Stock Exchange of India. The type of market plays a very important role in determining which strategy should be chosen in a market type. With the help of examples implied from the actual market data it becomes possible to conclude which type of strategy works well in what kind of a market. Lastly the conclusion talks about the scope of this market
Effect of Phyllostachys parvifolia leaf extract on ionizing radiation-induced genetic damage: A preliminary in vitro cytogenetic study
AbstractThe ionizing radiation is a known carcinogen as well as cancer therapeutic agent however, the side effect on normal tissue is a limiting factor and inadequate doses necessitates search for an ideal radioprotective agent. Bamboo species are rich source of antioxidants hence have therapeutic value in many free radical mediated diseases. This is the first report regarding in vitro protective effect of bamboo leaf extract against radiation induced genetic damage in human peripheral blood lymphocytes by cytokinesis blocked micronuclei (CBMN) assay. Fresh whole blood was exposed to 5Gy of cobalt-6o gamma radiation with or without 30 min pre-treatment with 3 μl and 5 μl of hydro alcoholic leaf extract of Phyllostachys parvifolia. In addition to whole extract the effect of potential active compound orientin was also assessed. The frequency of radiation induced micronuclei decreased significantly in a dose dependent manner following treatment with whole extract as well as orientin. The extent of reduction in micronuclei frequency was higher with whole bamboo leaf extract as compared to orientin alone
Probiotics: An Adjuvant therapy for D-Galactose induced Alzheimer's disease
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a chronic and slowly progressing neurodegenerative disorder which has become a major health concern worldwide. The literature has shown that oxidative stress is one of the most important risk factors behind the cause of AD. Oxidative stress often leads to the production of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS).
D-Galactose, a physiological nutrient and reducing sugar, non-enzymatically reacts with amines of amino acids in proteins and peptides to form Advanced Glycation End products which activate its receptors coupled to Biochemical pathways that stimulate free radical production and induces mitochondrial dysfunction which damages the neuron intracellularly. High dosage of D-Galactose also suppresses the expression of nerve growth factors and its associated protein which results in the degeneration of nerve cells and reduction of acetylcholine levels in brain regions.
This article put forwards the advantages of using Lactic Acid Bacteria (Probiotics) possessing anti-oxidant properties and which produces Acetyl Choline against D-Galactose induced Alzheimer’s disease
Rheology of Fumed Silica and Polyethylene Glycol Shear Thickening Suspension with Nanoclay as an Additive
Shear thickening properties of fumed silica-polyethylene glycol (PEG) with shear thickening fluid (STF) of different concentrations and with an organically modified clay, Nanomer I.28 E as nano-additive have been investigated by both steady-state and dynamic state rheology. Difference in rheology if instead of nanoclay, an equal wt% of additional fumed silica is added to 20 per cent fumed silica-PEG200 STF, has been studied. At 25 °C, in case of addition of nanoclay the increase in critical viscosity is less than that observed for same additional amount of fumed silica. Interestingly, an opposite result is seen at higher temperatures i.e. 45 °C and 55 °C. Moreover, the difference in steady-state and dynamic state viscosity values decreases on addition of nanoclay. It is noted that an increase in concentration of clay increases the value of dynamic parameters whereas for STF of only fumed silica particles the values are constant irrespective of the change in concentration. More importantly, ease of processing, elasticity, stability and consistency of rheological results of STF increases to a significant extent on addition of relatively inexpensive nano-additive
Elemental Analysis of Nanomaterial Using Photon-Atom Interaction Based EDXRF Technique
Presence of trace amount of foreign impurities (both metallic and non-metallic) in standard salts used for sample preparation and during the synthesis process can alter the physical and chemical behavior of the pure and doped nano-materials. Therefore, it becomes important to determine concentration of various elements present in synthesized nano-material sample. In present work, the elemental and compositional analysis of nano-materials synthesized using various methods has been performed using photon-atom interaction based energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) technique. This technique due to its multielement analytical capability, lower detection limit, capability to analyze metals and non-metals alike and almost no sample preparation requirements can be utilized for analysis of nano-materials. The EDXRF spectrometer involves a 2.4 kW Mo anode x-ray tube (Pananalytic, Netherland) equipped with selective absorbers as an excitation source and an LEGe detector (FWHM = 150 eV at 5.895 keV, Canberra, US) coupled with PC based multichannel analyzer used to collect the fluorescent x-ray spectra. The analytical results showed good agreements with the expected values calculated on the basis of the precursor used in preparation of nano-materials
Dietary Pattern of Schoolgoing Adolescents in Urban Baroda, India
Diet plays a very important role in growth and development of
adolescents, during which the development of healthy eating habits is
of supreme importance. There is a dual burden of undernutrition and
overnutrition in this age-group. The study assessed the food habits,
food preferences, and dietary pattern of schoolgoing urban adolescents
in Baroda, India. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used
in this study. A quantitative survey was carried out using a pre-tested
self-administered structured questionnaire among 1,440 students from
class 6 to 12 in 7 English medium and 23 Gujarati medium schools. Focus
group discussions, 5 each with adolescent boys and girls, were held,
along with 5 focus group discussions with teachers of Gujarati and
English medium schools. Nearly 80% of adolescents had consumed regular
food, like dal, rice, chapati, and vegetables, including green leafy
vegetables. Nearly 50% of them had consumed chocolates, and about
one-third consumed fast foods. Nearly 60% of adolescents had their
breakfast daily while the remaining missed taking breakfast daily.
Nearly one-third of adolescents were missing a meal once or twice a
week. A large majority had consumed regular foods. However, more than
half of them had consumed chocolates, soft drinks, and over one-third
had taken fast foods
