Two-point Stokes vector parameters of object field for diagnosis and differentiation of optically anisotropic biological tissues

    Get PDF
A new method of Stokes correlometry of polarization-inhomogeneous images of biological layers is presented. Analytic relations are determined for the modulus of complex parameters of the Stokes vector. A technique for measuring the coordinate distributions of the magnitude of the two-point modulus of the Stokes vector is proposed. Objective criteria for differentiating the optical anisotropy of polycrystalline urine films of healthy donors and patients with albuminuria have been found. An excellent level of balanced accuracy of differential diagnostics has been achieved

The paper presents the results of Jones-matrix mapping of uterine wall histological sections with second-degree and third-degree endometriosis. The technique of experimental measurement of coordinate distributions of the modulus and phase values of Jones matrix elements is suggested. Within the statistical and cross-correlation approaches the modulus and phase maps of Jones matrix images of optically thin biological layers of polycrystalline films of plasma and cerebrospinal fluid are analyzed. A set of objective parameters (statistical and generalized correlation moments), which are the most sensitive to changes in the phase of anisotropy, associated with the features of polycrystalline structure of uterine wall histological sections with second-degree and third-degree endometriosis are determined

The paper consists of two parts. The first part is devoted to the short theoretical basics of the method of differential Mueller-matrix description of properties of partially depolarizing layers. It was provided the experimentally measured maps of differential matrix of the 2nd order of polycrystalline structure of the histological section of rectum wall tissue. It was defined the values of statistical moments of the1st-4th orders, which characterize the distribution of matrix elements. In the second part of the paper it was provided the data of statistic analysis of birefringence and dichroism of the histological sections of connecting component of vagina wall tissue (normal and with prolapse). It were defined the objective criteria of differential diagnostics of pathologies of vagina wall

The structure of biological layers can be considered as structurally inhomogeneous one. Laser polarimetry was formed recently as a new separate approach within matrix optics. This research is aimed on generalization of optical anisotropy of optically thin layers of bile films and the development of the method of Jones-matrix reconstruction of anisotropy parameters of polycrystalline networks in the task of cholelithiasis early diagnostics

It has been proposed the optical model of Jones-matrix description of mechanisms of optical anisotropy of polycrystalline films of human bile, namely optical activity and birefringence. The algorithm of reconstruction of distributions of parameters - optical rotation angles and phase shifts of the indicated anisotropy types has been elaborated. The objective criteria of differentiation of bile films taken from healthy donors and patients with cholelithiasis by means of statistic analysis of such distributions have been determined. The operational characteristics (sensitivity, specificity and accuracy) of Jones-matrix reconstruction method of optical anisotropy parameters were defined
