Induced antiferromagnetism and large magnetoresistances in RuSr2(Nd,Y,Ce)2Cu2O10-d ruthenocuprates
RuSr2(Nd,Y,Ce)2Cu2O10-d ruthenocuprates have been studied by neutron
diffraction, magnetotransport and magnetisation measurements and the electronic
phase diagram is reported. Separate Ru and Cu spin ordering transitions are
observed, with spontaneous Cu antiferromagnetic order for low hole doping
levels p, and a distinct, induced-antiferromagnetic Cu spin phase in the 0.02 <
p < 0.06 pseudogap region. This ordering gives rise to large negative
magnetoresistances which vary systematically with p in the
RuSr2Nd1.8-xY0.2CexCu2O10-d series. A collapse of the magnetoresistance (MR)
and magnetisation in the pre-superconducting region may signify the onset of
superconducting fluctuations.Comment: 22 pages, 11 figure
A method of determining attitude from magnetometer data only
Presented here is a new algorithm to determine attitude using only magnetometer data under the following conditions: (1) internal torques are known and (2) external torques are negligible. Torque-free rotation of a spacecraft in thruster firing acquisition phase and its magnetic despin in the B-dot mode give typical examples of such situations. A simple analytical formula has been derived in the limiting case of a spacecraft rotating with constant angular velocity. The formula has been tested using low-frequency telemetry data for the Earth Radiation Budget Satellite (ERBS) under normal conditions. Observed small oscillation of body-fixed components of the angular velocity vector near their mean values result in relatively minor errors of approximately 5 degrees. More significant errors come from processing digital magnetometer data. Higher resolution of digitized magnetometer measurements would significantly improve the accuracy of this deterministic scheme. Tests of the general version of the developed algorithm for a free-rotating spacecraft and for the B-dot mode are in progress
An Active-Sterile Neutrino Transformation Solution for r-Process Nucleosynthesis
We discuss how matter-enhanced active-sterile neutrino transformation in both
neutrino and antineutrino channels could enable the production of the rapid
neutron capture (r-process) nuclei in neutrino-heated supernova ejecta. In this
scheme the lightest sterile neutrino would be heavier than the electron
neutrino and split from it by a vacuum mass-squared difference roughly between
