    Glory for the land: a drama in three acts based on the early career of Francis Asbury (with an introduction and explanatory notes)

    Thesis (Ph.D.)--Boston UniversityThe purpose of this dissertation is to investigate the career of Francis Asbury during the critica1 years l77l to 1784 and to present an original historica1 drama based on this research. An introduction discusses Asbury's importance to the development or America, the place of the drama in understanding the past, and the nature of the creative process imolved in writing an historica1 play. The three act drama is composed of eight scenes. After each scene of the play there is an extensive section of notes showing how the events, speeches, and persons depicted have been based on the historical sources. Francis Asbury's career embraced a period of forty-five crucial years of American history, years when, under his guidance, Methodism grew from a small group of several hundred to an indigenous Church with over 214,000 members. It would be impossible te present all of his life in a single dramatic work and this play has been limited to the years l77l to 1784. An examination of Asbury's activity during these years shows that the major themes of his career were developed by 1784. These themes were his dedication to the system of Methodist itineracy, his understanding of the destiny of America, the democracy of the Gospel he preached, his autocratic methods of Church administration, and his willingness to suffer for his vocation [TRUNCATED

    Personality distribution of Canadian medical students: A first look

    Background: Personality is one of the key elements in professional identity formation and is self-identified as one of the top two influences for Canadian medical graduates when making a specialty choice yet little is known about the personalities of Canadian medical students. This study is the first to report personality data regarding Canadian medical students.Methods: Personality is one of the key elements in professional identity formation and is self-identified as one of the top two influences for Canadian medical graduates when making a specialty choice yet little is known about the personalities of Canadian medical students. This study is the first to report personality data regarding Canadian medical students.Results: The data were analyzed using Chi square. The distribution of personalities [Guardian, Idealist, Artisan, Rational] for medical students differs from the distribution reported for the general Canadian population. The distribution of personalities is similar for each Canadian medical school.Conclusion: Results from this first national accounting of the personalities of Canadian medical students suggest either that the personalities of medical school applicants differ from the general population or that personality affects medical school admissions success. Knowing the personalities of medical students could be important for medical schools in such areas as admissions, career counselling and professional identity formation

    A number of churches today are utilizing the vehicle of a local church theological institute to equip lay people. The purpose of this project is to evaluate one such institute that operates in conjunction with the Campbell Baptist Church in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The project first examines other lay institute programs as well as current literature that can aid in developing a school of this nature. This helps provide a standard for comparison. After delineating seven essential ingredients for lay institutes the evaluation is made. This study can serve to help other churches develop a quality lay institute program

    The Interactions Among Information Technology Organizational Learning, Project Learning, and Project Success

    Knowledge gained from completed information technology (IT) projects was not often shared with emerging project teams. Learning lessons from other project teams was not pursued because people lack time, do not see value in learning, fear a potentially painful process, and had concerns that sharing knowledge will hurt their career. Leaders could change the situation; however organizational leaders have not seen value in project learning and have not made it a priority. Yet, if a relationship existed among IT project success variables (PSVs) organizational learning factors (OLFs) and project learning practices (PLPs) then IT leaders may take greater interest in managing knowledge. The goal of this research was to conduct a correlational study to determine the relationship among OLFs, PLPs, and PSVs within IT organizations. OLFs included those activities at the corporate level that enabled project teams to learn from other projects. PLPs included the activities to learn lessons from a maturing or completed project. PLPs also included activities within an emerging project to harness lessons from prior projects. PSVs described project success. The research question (RQ) asked; what was the relationship among the OLFs, PLPs, and PSVs? To answer the research question it was necessary to ask four support questions (SQ). First, what elements defined organizational learning, project learning, and project success? Second, how effective was use of organizational learning? Third, how effective was project learning? Fourth, how successful were IT projects? To answer the first SQ a content analysis was conducted followed by a review with a Delphi team. A survey was then developed based on the content analysis. Finally, a statistical analysis was conducted to answer the remaining SQs and the RQ. The content analysis and Delphi team review revealed 12 OLFs, 11 PLPs, and 9 PSVs. Answering the second and third support questions the study found that OLFs and PLPs could be used more effectively within IT organizations. However, IT leaders reported that a foundation for organizational and project learning existed. Answering the fourth SQ, IT leaders reported good project success though risk management could be improved. This study found that there was a positive and significant relationship among the OLFs, PLPs, and PSVs. The relationship among the OLFs, PLPs, and PSVs suggests that there is justification to research and develop IT competence in learning
