A Review of Chemosensation and Related Behavior in Aquatic Insects
Insects that are secondarily adapted to aquatic environments are able to sense odors from a diverse array of sources. The antenna of these insects, as in all insects, is the main chemosensory structure and its input to the brain allows for integration of sensory information that ultimately ends in behavioral responses. Only a fraction of the aquatic insect orders have been studied with respect to their sensory biology and most of the work has centered either on the description of the different types of sensilla, or on the behavior of the insect as a whole. In this paper, the literature is exhaustively reviewed and ways in which antennal morphology, brain structure, and associated behavior can advance better understanding of the neurobiology involved in processing of chemosensory information are discussed. Moreover, the importance of studying such group of insects is stated, and at the same time it is shown that many interesting questions regarding olfactory processing can be addressed by looking into the changes that aquatic insects undergo when leaving their aquatic environment

Prismatic 2.0 - Simulation software for scanning and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (STEM and HRTEM).
Scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), where a converged electron probe is scanned over a sample's surface and an imaging, diffraction, or spectroscopic signal is measured as a function of probe position, is an extremely powerful tool for materials characterization. The widespread adoption of hardware aberration correction, direct electron detectors, and computational imaging methods have made STEM one of the most important tools for atomic-resolution materials science. Many of these imaging methods rely on accurate imaging and diffraction simulations in order to interpret experimental results. However, STEM simulations have traditionally required large calculation times, as modeling the electron scattering requires a separate simulation for each of the typically millions of probe positions. We have created the Prismatic simulation code for fast simulation of STEM experiments with support for multi-CPU and multi-GPU (graphics processing unit) systems, using both the conventional multislice and our recently-introduced PRISM method. In this paper, we introduce Prismatic version 2.0, which adds many new algorithmic improvements, an updated graphical user interface (GUI), post-processing of simulation data, and additional operating modes such as plane-wave TEM. We review various aspects of the simulation methods and codes in detail and provide various simulation examples. Prismatic 2.0 is freely available both as an open-source package that can be run using a C++ or Python command line interface, or GUI, as well within a Docker container environment

An international review of the patterns and determinants of health service utilisation by adult cancer survivors
BACKGROUND: There is a need to review factors related to health service utilisation by the increasing number of cancer survivors in order to inform care planning and the organisation and delivery of services. METHODS: Studies were identified via systematic searches of Medline, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Social Science Citation Index and the SEER-MEDICARE library. Methodological quality was assessed using STROBE; and the Andersen Behavioural Model was used as a framework to structure, organise and analyse the results of the review. RESULTS: Younger, white cancer survivors were most likely to receive follow-up screening, preventive care, visit their physician, utilise professional mental health services and least likely to be hospitalised. Utilisation rates of other health professionals such as physiotherapists were low. Only studies of health service use conducted in the USA investigated the role of type of health insurance and ethnicity. There appeared to be disparate service use among US samples in terms of ethnicity and socio-demographic status, regardless of type of health insurance provision s- this may be explained by underlying differences in health-seeking behaviours. Overall, use of follow-up care appeared to be lower than expected and barriers existed for particular groups of cancer survivors. CONCLUSIONS: Studies focussed on the use of a specific type of service rather than adopting a whole-system approach and future health services research should address this shortcoming. Overall, there is a need to improve access to care for all cancer survivors. Studies were predominantly US-based focussing mainly on breast or colorectal cancer. Thus, the generalisability of findings to other health-care systems and cancer sites is unclear. The Andersen Behavioural Model provided an appropriate framework for studying and understanding health service use among cancer survivors. The active involvement of physicians and use of personalised care plans are required in order to ensure that post-treatment needs and recommendations for care are met

Immunoglobulins as Biomarkers for Gastrointestinal Nematodes Resistance in Small Ruminants: A systematic review
The rise of anthelmintic resistance worldwide has led to the development of alternative control strategies for gastrointestinal nematodes (GIN) infections, which are one of the main constraints on the health of grazing small ruminants. Presently, breeding schemes rely mainly on fecal egg count (FEC) measurements on infected animals which are time-consuming and requires expertise in parasitology. Identifying and understanding the role of immunoglobulins in the mechanisms of resistance could provide a more efficient and sustainable method of identifying nematode-resistant animals for selection. In this study we review the findings on immunoglobulin response to GIN in the literature published to date (june 2019) and discuss the potential to use immunoglobulins as biomarkers. The literature review revealed 41 studies which measured at least one immunoglobulin: 35 focused on lamb immune response (18 used non-naive lambs) and 7 on yearlings. In this review we propose a conceptual model summarizing the role of immunoglobulins in resistance to GIN. We highlight the need for more carefully designed and documented studies to allow comparisons across different populations on the immunoglobulin response to GIN infection
