    Close-Range Photogrammetric Measurement of Static Deflections for an Aeroelastic Supercritical Wing

    Close range photogrammetric measurements were made for the lower wing surface of a full span aspect ratio 10.3 aeroelastic supercritical research wing. The measurements were made during wind tunnel tests for quasi-steady pressure distributions on the wing. The tests were conducted in the NASA Langley Transonic Dynamics Tunnel at Mach numbers up to 0.90 and dynamic pressures up to 300 pounds per square foot. Deflection data were obtained for 57 locations on the wing lower surface using dual non-metric cameras. Representative data are presented as graphical overview to show variations and trends of spar deflection with test variables. Comparative data are presented for photogrammetric and cathetometric results of measurements for the wing tip deflections. A tabulation of the basic measurements is presented in a supplement to this report

    The title compound, {[PtYb(CN)4(NO3)(C15H11N3)(H2O)2]·CH3CN}n, was isolated from solution as a one-dimensional coordination polymer. The Yb3+ site has ninefold coordination with a distorted tricapped trigonal–prismatic geometry, while the PtII ion is coordinated by four cyanide groups in an almost regular square-planar geometry. cis-Bridging by the tetra­cyanidoplatinate(II) anions links the Yb3+ cations, forming chains. Additionally, each Yb3+ is coordinated by two water mol­ecules, one bidentate nitrate anion, and one tridentate 2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine mol­ecule. O—H⋯N hydrogen-bonding inter­actions are found between adjacent chains and help to consolidate the crystal packing. In addition, π–π stacking inter­actions exist between the terpyridine ligand and the two corresponding terpyridine ligands along the adjacent chain (average inter­planar distance = 3.667 Å). Moderate Pt⋯Pt inter­actions [3.5033 (4) Å] are observed in the structure

    A nearly planar arrangement of ions in 4,4′-bipiperidinium tetra­cyanido­platinate(II) monohydrate

    The title compound, (C10H22N2)[Pt(CN)4]·H2O, was isolated from solution as a mol­ecular salt. The compound contains discrete 4,4′-bipiperidinium cations and tetra­cyano­platinate(II) anions that are involved in a hydrogen-bonding network with one water mol­ecule of hydration. The structure differs from that of the similar acetonitrile solvate, (C10H22N2)[Pt(CN)4]·2CH3CN, in the orientation of the ions relative to one another. The hydrate reported here contains layers of nearly parallel cations and anions with an angle between their mean planes of only 4.35 (11)°, while in the acetonitrile solvate the cations and anions are nearly perpendicular to one another (86.1° between mean planes). The crystal showed partial inversion twinning

Relatively long Pt⋯Pt inter­actions [3.847 (1) Å] are observed in the structure. O—H⋯N and O—H⋯O hydrogen bonding interactions between the consituents consolidates the crystal packing

    Lattice QCD with mixed actions

    We discuss some of the implications of simulating QCD when the action used for the sea quarks is different from that used for the valence quarks. We present exploratory results for the hadron mass spectrum and pseudoscalar meson decay constants using improved staggered sea quarks and HYP-smeared overlap valence quarks. We propose a method for matching the valence quark mass to the sea quark mass and demonstrate it on UKQCD clover data in the simpler case where the sea and valence actions are the same.Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures some minor modification to text and figures.     The Washington University MultiMedia eXplorer (MMX) is a complete, host-independent multimedia system capable of transmitting and receiving JPEG-compressed video, CD-quality audio, and high-resolution radiographic images over the Washington University broadband ATM network. If the host is equipped with an ATM interface card, normal network traffic is supported via T and Y connections. The MMX consists of an ATMizer and three multimedia subsystems. The ATMizer implements the host interface, the interface to the ATM network, and the interface to the three multimdeia channels. This paper describes the architecture of the MMX, the software used with the system, and the applications which have been developed to demonstrate the capability of broadband ATM networks for multimedia applications

    Transmission and energy losses of 2 MeV/u Carbon and Sulphur beams passing through a plasma target, have been extensively investigated. A hydrogen plasma ignited by an electrical discharge was coupled to the Orsay Tandem beam accelerator. Fluctuations in beam transmission have been observed and attributed to a magnetic focusing effect generated during the plasma evolution. Energy loss measurements were performed on the basis of time of flight techniques and indicate an enhanced stopping power of the plasma relative to its cold matter equivalent

    Localization and chiral symmetry in 2+1 flavor domain wall QCD

    We present results for the dependence of the residual mass of domain wall fermions (DWF) on the size of the fifth dimension and its relation to the density and localization properties of low-lying eigenvectors of the corresponding hermitian Wilson Dirac operator relevant to simulations of 2+1 flavor domain wall QCD. Using the DBW2 and Iwasaki gauge actions, we generate ensembles of configurations with a 163×3216^3\times 32 space-time volume and an extent of 8 in the fifth dimension for the sea quarks. We demonstrate the existence of a regime where the degree of locality, the size of chiral symmetry breaking and the rate of topology change can be acceptable for inverse lattice spacings a11.6a^{-1} \ge 1.6 GeV.Comment: 59 Pages, 23 figures, 1 MPG linke
