From Font to Meal to Service and Unity
Is Eucharistic sharing, then, properly seen as the culmination or the inception of Christian initiation? This is a big question getting right to the heart of “how Baptism forms us.”
I want to get at this in two distinct but related ways; (1) the rank and dignity of baptism in Lutheran Liturgy; and (2) the relationship of Eucharist to Church
Salis est: Ecumenical Catalyst or Narrow Reductionism?
(Excerpt)
It is also taught among us that one holy Christian church will be and remain focever. This is the assembly of all believers [or saints ] among whom the Gospel is preached in its purity and the holy sacraments are administered according to the Gospel. For it is sufficient [satis est] for the true unity of the Christian church that the Gospel be preached in conformity with a pure understanding of it and that the sacraments be administered in accordance with the divine Word [or, are administered rightly ]. It is not necessary for the true unity of the Christian church that ceremonies, instituted by men, should be observed uniformly in all places. It is as Paul says in Eph. 4:4,5, There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call, one Lord, one faith, one baptism.
Baptismal Spirituality in the Early Church and Its Implications for the Church Today
(Excerpt)
Let me begin with two quotes from a recent collection of essays by British Methodist liturgical theologian Geoffrey Wainwright, both of which, I believe, speak to the overall theme of this year\u27s liturgical institute. First, in an essay originally published in 1988, Wainwright says: Without the heartbeat of the sacraments at its center, a church will lack confidence about the gospel message and about its own ability to proclaim that message in evangelism, to live it out in its own internal fellowship, and to embody it in service to the needy. 1 And, second, in an essay appearing originally in 1993, he writes that a deeper replunging into its own tradition will, in my judgment, be necessary if the church is to survive in recognizable form, particularly in our western culture.
Fuse and switch functions combined within a single housing
Fuswitch provides both switch and fuse functions within a single housing. A mercury capillary is used to alternately vaporize and condense the mercury within a reservoir. The housing is impervious to mercury and the fuse portion of the device operates on the principle of the self-healing mercury fuse
Multidate mapping of mosquito habitat
LANDSAT data from three overpasses formed the data base for a multidate classification of 15 ground cover categories in the margins of Lewis and Clark Lake, a fresh water impoundment between South Dakota and Nebraska. When scaled to match topographic maps of the area, the ground cover classification maps were used as a general indicator of potential mosquito-breeding habitat by distinguishing productive wetlands areas from nonproductive nonwetlands areas. The 12 channel multidate classification was found to have an accuracy 23% higher than the average of the three single date 4 channel classifications

Theory of the Jamming Transition at Finite Temperature
A theory for the microscopic structure and the vibrational properties of soft
sphere glass at finite temperature is presented. With an effective potential,
derived here, the phase diagram and vibrational properties are worked out
around the Maxwell critical point at zero temperature and pressure .
Variational arguments and effective medium theory identically predict a
non-trivial temperature scale with
such that low-energy vibrational properties are hard-sphere like for , and zero-temperature soft-sphere like otherwise. However, due to
crossovers in the equation of state relating , , and the packing fraction
, these two regimes lead to four regions where scaling behaviors differ
when expressed in terms of and . Scaling predictions are presented
for the mean-squared displacement, characteristic frequency, shear modulus, and
characteristic elastic length in all regions of the phase diagram.Comment: 8 pages + 3 pages S
