How do firms agglomerate? A study of FDI in france
This paper studies the determinants of location choice by foreign investors in France using a sample of almost 4000 foreign investments over 10 years and 92 locations. Concerning agglomeration effects, we find very strong evidence of positive spillovers between firms, and identify detailed patterns of clustering, assessing, for instance, the countries of origin and the industries for which those spillovers are the most substantial. Concerning regional policies, we find very little evidence of any positive impact. Finally, we identify a ‘learning process’ of FDI, the location decisions becoming more remote from the country of origin during the period we study
MASS CUSTOMIZATION FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE 3D MODELS
International audienceDigital technologies in the last twenty years have offered cultural heritage (CH) new possibilities in conservation and promotion. 3D digitization has especially become more and more affordable and efficient. This leads to massive digitization projects and increasing amount of CH digital data. As an engineering team working on industrial techniques for reverse engineering, we are deeply affected by this effect. In this paper we propose a way to combine semantic information on top of the acquisition and modeling steps in order to manage heterogeneous historical data. We illustrate our approach with a use case composed of three overlapping historical objects related to Nantes' harbour history

Biofiltration of bitumen vapours - Operational aspects
[Abstract] This study was carried out in response to odour problems around a bitumen mixing and storage plant. The general objective of this study was to determine the potential of biofiltration for the treatment of air containing bitumen vapours. Two pilot-scale biofilters, a single-stage system and a two-stage system, were operated using a synthetic gas for a period of 106 days. Results demonstrated that a period of about 50 days was necessary to reach a steady state. The two biofilters performed very well in regards to H2S, while VOC treatment was much less efficient. Maximum elimination capacities of 25 g·m-3·h-1 for H2S and 5.3 g·m-3·h-1 for VOCs were obtained with the two-stage system. It was possible to establish certain operating conditions necessary for proper operation and to determine that a two-stage system is more efficient for the simultaneous treatment of H2S and VOCs
Raman-modes of index-identified free-standing single-walled carbon nanotubes
Using electron diffraction on free-standing single-walled carbon nanotubes we
have determined the structural indices (n,m) of tubes in the diameter range
from 1.4 to 3nm. On the same free-standing tubes we have recorded Raman spectra
of the tangential modes and the radial breathing mode. For the smaller
diameters (1.4-1.7nm) these measurements confirm previously established radial
breathing mode frequency versus diameter relations, and would be consistent
with the theoretically predicted proportionality to the inverse diameter.
However, for extending the relation to larger diameters, either a yet
unexplained environmental constant has to be assumed, or the linear relation
has to be abandoned.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, +additional materials (select PostScript to
