Examining the Relationship between Medical Student Satisfaction and Academic Performance in a Pre-Clinical, Flipped-Classroom Curriculum
Medical schools are tasked with the responsibility of facilitating the acquisition of the specific vernacular, skill set, and reasoning capabilities of a physician for a group of individuals with a mélange of diverse experiences. Determining the best methods to train physicians is thus a challenge for those in medical education. Starting with the class of 2021, flipped classroom teaching and learning activities dominate Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine’s (WSU-BSOM) curriculum for MS1s and MS2s. This new curriculum is under constant evaluation to make sure it is best serving Boonshoft students. However, evaluating student evaluations on course satisfaction is difficult due to the amount of noise in qualitative data. We thus evaluated the quantitative and qualitative data from the surveys completed by the class of 2021 and correlated them with their NBME and final exam results from each module. It was found that a statistically significant relationship exists between student satisfaction and performance on final exams for most modules in this curriculum. Further studies are needed to create a framework for removing noise from these evaluations so those who design the curriculum may strive to improve student satisfaction in ways that will most improve student performance

Optimal Integrated Abundances for Chemical Tagging of Extragalactic Globular Clusters
High resolution integrated light (IL) spectroscopy provides detailed
abundances of distant globular clusters whose stars cannot be resolved.
Abundance comparisons with other systems (e.g. for chemical tagging) require
understanding the systematic offsets that can occur between clusters, such as
those due to uncertainties in the underlying stellar population. This paper
analyses high resolution IL spectra of the Galactic globular clusters 47 Tuc,
M3, M13, NGC 7006, and M15 to (1) quantify potential systematic uncertainties
in Fe, Ca, Ti, Ni, Ba, and Eu and (2) identify the most stable abundance ratios
that will be useful in future analyses of unresolved targets. When stellar
populations are well-modelled, uncertainties are ~0.1-0.2 dex based on
sensitivities to the atmospheric parameters alone; in the worst case scenarios,
uncertainties can rise to 0.2-0.4 dex. The [Ca I/Fe I] ratio is identified as
the optimal integrated [alpha/Fe] indicator (with offsets <0.1 dex), while [Ni
I/Fe I] is also extremely stable to within <0.1 dex. The [Ba II/Eu II] ratios
are also stable when the underlying populations are well modelled and may also

Coronary Artery Calcification (CAC) and Post-Trial Cardiovascular Events and Mortality Within the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) Estrogen-Alone Trial.
BackgroundAmong women aged 50 to 59 years at baseline in the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) Estrogen-Alone (E-Alone) trial, randomization to conjugated equine estrogen-alone versus placebo was associated with lower risk of myocardial infarction and mortality, and, in an ancillary study, the WHI-CACS (WHI Coronary Artery Calcification Study) with lower CAC, measured by cardiac computed tomography ≈8.7 years after baseline randomization. We hypothesized that higher CAC would be related to post-trial coronary heart disease (CHD), cardiovascular disease (CVD), and total mortality, independent of baseline randomization or risk factors.Methods and resultsWHI-CACS participants (n=1020) were followed ≈8 years from computed tomography scan in 2005 (mean age=64.4) through 2013 for incident CHD (myocardial infarction and fatal CHD, n=17), CVD (n=69), and total mortality (n=55). Incident CHD and CVD analyses excluded women with CVD before scan (n=89). Women with CAC=0 (n=54%) had very low age-adjusted rates/1000 person-years of CHD (0.91), CVD (5.56), and mortality (3.45). In comparison, rates were ≈2-fold higher for women with any CAC (>0). Associations were not modified by baseline randomization to conjugated equine estrogen-alone versus placebo. Adjusted for baseline randomization and risk factors, the hazard ratio (95% confidence interval) for CAC >100 (19%) was 4.06 (2.11, 7.80) for CVD and 2.70 (1.26, 5.79) for mortality.ConclusionsAmong a subset of postmenopausal women aged 50 to 59 years at baseline in the WHI E-Alone Trial, CAC at mean age of 64 years was strongly related to incident CHD, CVD, and to total mortality over ≈8 years, independent of baseline randomization to conjugated equine estrogen-alone versus placebo or CVD risk factors.Clinical trial registrationURL: https://www.clinicaltrials.gov. Technical note: Institutional solution of clinical cine MRI for tumor motion evaluation in radiotherapy
PURPOSE: Since 4D-MRI is inadequate to capture dynamic respiratory variations, real-time cinematographic (cine) MRI is actively used in MR-guided radiotherapy (MRgRT) for tumor motion evaluation, delineation, and tracking. However, most radiotherapy imaging platforms do not support the format of cine MRI from clinical MRI systems. This study developed an institutional solution of clinical cine MRI for tumor motion evaluation in radiotherapy applications.
METHODS: Cine MRI manipulation software (called Cine Viewer) was developed within a commercial Treatment Planning System (TPS). It consists of (1) single/orthogonal viewers, (2) display controllers, (3) measurement grids/markers, and (4) manual contouring tools.
RESULTS: The institutional solution of clinical cine MRI incorporated with radiotherapy application was assessed through case presentations (liver cancer). Cine Viewer loaded cine MRIs from 1.5T Philips Ingenia MRI, handling MRI DICOM format. The measurement grids and markers were used to quantify the displacement of anatomical structures in addition to the tumor. The contouring tool was utilized to localize the tumor and surrogates on the designated frame. The stacks of the contours were exhibited to present the ranges of tumor and surrogate motions. For example, the stacks of the tumor contours from case-1 were used to determine the ranges of tumor motions (∼8.17 mm on the x-direction [AP-direction] and ∼14 mm on the y-direction [SI-direction]). In addition, the patterns of the displacement of the contours over frames were analyzed and reported using in-house software. In the case-1 review, the tumor was displaced from +146.0 mm on the x-direction and +125.0 mm on the y-direction from the ROI of the abdominal surface.
CONCLUSION: We demonstrated the institutional solution of clinical cine MRI in radiotherapy. The proposed tools can streamline the utilization of cine MRI for tumor motion evaluation using Eclipse for treatment planning
