    Census of Active Commercial Fishermen in Puerto Rico: 2008

    The implementation of Puerto Rican Regulation No. 6768, which overhauled the existing fishery management framework, generated considerable hostility towards local managers. Among the controversial management measures adopted in 2004 were the assignment of fishing licenses based on fishing income, the establishment of closed seasons, and new minimum size restrictions for commercially valuable species. Though tensions have subsided, considerable opposition to these regulations remains. This paper provides a characterization of the current population of active small-scale fishermen, discusses their perceptions about the biological and socio-economic condition of the fishery, and describes their attitudes towards the new management framework. This study revealed that the number of active fishermen decreased from 1,731 in 1988 to 868 in 2008. Although a declining resource base was one of the main drivers behind these waning participation statistics, rising fuel costs and burdensome regulations exacerbated the rate of attrition. The majority of the fishermen were middleaged men (50 years) with moderate levels of formal education and high levels of fishing dependence which limited their employment opportunities outside the fishery. Most of the vessels were small (20 ft) and outfitted with a single outboard engine (80 hp). Hook and line and SCUBA were dominant gears because of their versatility and cost effectiveness. Fishermen suggested that their opposition to the regulations would continue unless they were afforded greater regulatory flexibility and provided with a larger role in the decision-making process. Fishermen were adamant about the need to reconsider the income reporting requirements to secure a fishing license because of the potential for losing public assistance benefits. They also objected to increasing the minimum size of many deepwater snapper (Lutjanidae) and grouper (Serranidae) species because it forced them to discard dead fish, a practice they consider wasteful since these species do not survive the ascent to the surface once hooked

    Currently, the digital economy contributes decisively to an increase in competitiveness, especially as a digital transformation involves migrating to new technological models where digital marketing is a key part of growth and user loyalty strategies. Internet and Digital Marketing have become important factors in campaigns, which attract and retain Internet users. This study aims to identify the main ways in which users can be gained and retained by using Digital Marketing. The Delphi method with in-depth interviews was the methodology used in this study. The results of the research show the most important actions for achieving user recruitment and loyalty with Digital Marketing from the opinions of consulted experts. The limitations of this study are those related to the number of experts included in the study, and the number of research papers consulted in the literature review. The literature review and the results of this research are used to propose new solid research with a consolidated critical methodology. This research deals with a new approach that will optimize web technologies for the evolution of user trends, and therefore, will be of academic and professional use for marketing managers and web solution developers. The conclusions of the investigation show the key factors, discarding others that do not affect the optimization of conversions in B2C businesses such as the duration of the session and the rebound percentage. Likewise, the results of the research identify the specific actions that must be carried out to attract and retain users in B2C companies that use the Digital Marketing ecosystem on the Internet.     In this paper we consider ϕ2\phi^2 scalar field potential as a candidate to dark matter. If it is an ultralight boson particle, it condensates like a Bose-Einstein system at very early times and forms the basic structure of the Universe. Real scalar fields collapse in equilibrium configurations that oscillate in space-time (oscillatons).The cosmological behavior of the field equations are solved using the dynamical system formalism. We use the current cosmological parameters as constraints for the present value of the scalar field. We reproduce the cosmological predictions of the standard Λ\LambdaCDM model with this model.     Ultra light bosonic dark matter and cosmic microwave background

    In this paper, we consider the hypothesis in which a species of ultra light bosonic dark matter (ULBDM) with mass mB∼10−22m_{B}\sim 10^{-22} eV could be the dominant dark matter (DM) in the Universe. As a first approach we work in the context of kinetic theory, where ULBDM is described by the phase space distribution function whose dynamics is dictated by the Boltzmann-Einstein equations. We investigate the effects that this kind of dark matter imprints in the acoustic peaks of the cosmic microwave background. We find that the effect of the Bose-Einstein statistics is small, albeit perceptible, and is equivalent to an increase of non-relativistic matter. It is stressed that in this approach, the mass-to-temperature ratio necessary for ULBDM to be a plausible DM candidate is about five orders of magnitude. We show that reionization is also necessary and we address a range of consistent values for this model.
