    Studies of extended planetary atmospheres

    Get PDF
There was a theoretical study of physical and chemical processes in the stratosphere, later broadened to include the mesosphere. Particular emphasis was laid on testing of proposed height profiles of the eddy diffusion coefficient against observed tracer data. Eventually the effort shifted to study of ozone time series in satellite data, and interpretation in terms of aeronomical processes. Since all this work is computer-intensive, the first year of funding also contributed to the acquisition of a powerful minicomputer system, in collaboration with several other faculty members. This proved to be highly successful and cost effective

THE EFFECT OF SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT ON COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE AND FIRM PERFORMANCE (Case Study: The Fish Processing Industry in Bitung North Sulawesi Province in Indonesia)

    Get PDF
Supply Chain Management (SCM) has been recognized as a strategy that could lead firm to gain competitive advantage, other than to achieve greater firm performance. This study aimed to analyze the effect of supply chain management to competitive advantage and firm performance, the effect of competitive advantage and firm performance and influence on the performance of SCM in Firm through a competitive advantage in the fish processing industry in Bitung North Sulawesi Province. Research conceptualizes and develops three dimensions of SCM practice (customer relationship management, internal supply chain management, supplier relationship, management) and tests the relationships between SCM, competitive advantage, and firm performance. Data for the study were collected from 21 firm and the relationships proposed in the framework were tested using partial least square (PLS)  The results indicate that SCM, which consists of three dimensions of customer relationship management, internal supply chain management and supplier relationship management, has a positive impact on competitive advantage and performance, competitive advantage has positive effect on the performance and the firm's performance depends on the competitive advantages of each of the fish processing industry. SCM in the industry of fish processing in the city of Bitung in North Sulawesi has positive effect on competitive advantage of firm. As for the performance of the enterprise, SCM also direct effect. The performance of fish processing firm directly been affected by the competitive excellence and SCM practice   Keywords: Supply chain management; Competitive Advantage; Firm Performance;                     Partial least Squar

A multi-objective evolutionary algorithm fitness function for case-base maintenance.

    Get PDF
Case-Base Maintenance (CBM) has two important goals. On the one hand, it aims to reduce the size of the case-base. On the other hand, it has to improve the accuracy of the CBR system. CBM can be represented as a multi-objective optimization problem to achieve both goals. Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithms (MOEAs) have been recognised as appropriate techniques for multi-objective optimisation because they perform a search for multiple solutions in parallel. In the present paper we introduce a fitness function based on the Complexity Profiling model to perform CBM with MOEA, and we compare its results against other known CBM approaches. From the experimental results, CBM with MOEA shows regularly good results in many case-bases, despite the amount of redundant and noisy cases, and with a significant potential for improvement

Relationship between psychological and biological factors and physical activity and exercise behaviour in Filipino students

    Get PDF
The aim of the present study was threefold. Firstly, it investigated whether a general measure or specific measure of motivational orientation was better in describing the relationship between motivation and exercise behaviour. Secondly, it examined the relationship between the four most popular indirect methods of body composition assessment and physical activity and exercise patterns. Thirdly, the interaction between motivation and body composition on physical activity and exercise behaviour was explored in a sample of 275 Filipino male and female students. Males were found to have higher levels of exercise whereas females had higher levels of physical activity. Furthermore, general self-motivation together with body weight and percentage body fat were found to be the best predictor of exercise behaviour whereas the tension/pressure subscale of the ‘Intrinsic Motivation Inventory’ (IMI) was the best predictor of levels of physical activity. However, significant gender differences were observed. That is, for the males only self-motivation and for the females only body weight and BMI predicted exercise behaviour. Also, tension/pressure predicted physical activity levels for the females but not the males. No inverse relationship was found between the four body composition measures and exercise and physical activity behaviour. The results support the notion that the psychobiological approach might be particularly relevant for high intensity exercise situations but also highlights some important gender differences. Finally, the results of this study emphasise the need for more cross-cultural research

Outcome implications of benzodiazepine and opioid co- prescription in kidney transplant recipients

The outcomes of benzodiazepine and opioid co- prescription are not well- defined in transplant populations. We examined linked national transplant registry and pharmaceutical records to characterize benzodiazepine and opioid use in the years before and after transplant in large US cohort of kidney transplant recipients (2007- 2016; N = 98 620), and associations (adjusted hazard ratio, LCLaHRUCL) with death and graft failure. Among the cohort, 15.6% filled benzodiazepine prescriptions in the year before transplant, and 14.0% filled benzodiazepine prescriptions in the year after transplant (short- acting, 9.5%; long- acting, 3.3%; both 1.1%). Use of short- acting benzodiazepines in the year before transplant was associated with a 22% increased risk of death in the year after transplant (aHR, 1.081.221.38), while use of all classes in the year after transplant was associated with increased risk of death from >1 to 5 years (aHR: short- acting 1.291.391.48; long- acting 1.121.251.40; both 1.461.742.07). Recipients who used benzodiazepines were also more likely to fill opioid prescriptions. Recipients who filled both classes of benzodiazepine and the highest level of opioids had a 2.9- fold increased risk of death compared to recipients who did not use either. Co- prescription of benzodiazepines and opioids in kidney transplant recipients is associated with increased mortality. Ongoing research is needed to understand mechanisms of risk relationships.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/162821/2/ctr14005.pdfhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/162821/1/ctr14005_am.pd
