    Low-temperature synthesis of crystalline GeSn with high Sn concentration by electron excitation effect

    The low-temperature synthesis of high-Sn-concentration GeSn is challenging in realizing flexible thin-film transistors and solar cells. Because of athermal processes, irradiation with energetic particles is anticipated to significantly reduce the processing temperature for device fabrication. Here, we demonstrated that polycrystalline Ge with ~30 at. % Sn can be realized at room temperature by the electron-beam-induced recrystallization of amorphous GeSn. We found that inelastic electronic stopping, the so-called electron excitation effect, plays an important role in the recrystallization of amorphous GeSn

    Effects of solute and vacancy segregation on antiphase boundary migration in stoichiometric and Al-rich Fe₃Al: a phase-field simulation study

    Effects of segregation of solute atoms and vacancies on migration of antiphase boundaries (APBs) in stoichiometric (Fe-25 at%Al) and Al-rich (Fe-28 at%Al) Fe₃Al at 673 K have been studied using a phase-field method in which local vacancy concentration is taken into account [Koizumi Y, Allen SM, Minamino Y. Acta Mater 2008;56:5861, ibid. 2009;57:3039]. Boundary mobility (M) of APBs having different phase-shift vectors of a/4 and a/2 (hereafter denoted as B2-APB and D0₃-APB, respectively) was evaluated by measuring the boundary velocity of shrinking circular APBs. Similar effects of the segregation on the migration of B2-APBs were observed in both compositions. Vacancies segregated and Al-atoms were depleted at B2-APBs in both compositions. Vacancy concentration at B2-APBs was up to 80% higher than that in the bulk. As a result, the migration of B2-APBs was greatly enhanced by the vacancy segregation. In contrast, the segregation to D0₃-APBs showed a marked composition dependence. Vacancies were depleted and Al-atoms segregated at D0₃-APBs in the Al-rich Fe₃Al, whereas vacancies segregated and Al-atoms were depleted at D0₃-APB in the stoichiometric Fe₃Al. The Al segregation in the Al-rich Fe3Al decreased M of D0₃-APBs much more significantly than the Al-depletion in the stoichiometric Fe₃Al. As the APDs shrank, D0₃-APBs broke away from the segregation atmospheres and the M increased rapidly in both compositions.     MUMPS (Massachusetts General Hospital Utility Multi-Programing System) is a good system for medical information processing by computer. So, we have systemized the biochemical laboratory information system by using of DSM-11 (Digital Standard MUMPS) through PDP-11/34 mini-computer system in Hiroshima University Hospital. This system has some functions of transfering data from PDP11/34 to M-180 large computer and can transfer data form from tree model DBMS of DSM-11 on PDP11/34 to relational model DBMS of M-180 large computer. As HDM (relational model DBMS of M-180) has a function of using SPSS statistical programs package by DBMS, our designed system (DSM11/HDM system) can analyze a lot of laboratory data easily and statistically. We got much effortness by medical applications of this system

    Successful treatment of unresectable advanced rectal cancer with liver metastases by hemostasis re-irradiation of the rectal cancer and palliative low-dose whole-liver radiation therapy: a case report.

    A 72-year-old man was admitted to the hospital with fatigue. Colonoscopy revealed a 50 × 50 mm rectal tumor with bleeding. Based on close inspection, he was diagnosed with unresectable advanced rectal cancer with multiple liver metastases. Chemotherapy was administered as 10 cycles of bevacizumab + mFOLFOX6 and 7 cycles of bevacizumab + FOLFIRI. Nine months later, he presented with hematochezia and progression of anemia. It was difficult to stop the bleeding via endoscopy. He underwent radiation therapy (39 Gy in 13 fractions), and hemostasis was confirmed. Then, further chemotherapy was performed with 3 cycles of bevacizumab + FOLFIRI and 2 cycles of TAS102. However 14 months after the initial visit, he presented with right hypochondralgia and abdominal fullness due to the progression of multiple liver metastases. Palliative low-dose whole-liver radiation therapy (WLRT) (30 Gy in 10 fractions) was performed. He developed Grade 2 nausea, but his right hypochondralgia reduced, liver dysfunction improved, and he successfully completed radiotherapy. At approximately the same time his anemia progressed, and colonoscopy revealed recurrent bleeding from the tumor. Re-irradiation (15 Gy in 5 fractions) of the rectal tumor was carried out and a blood transfusion was performed for the bleeding. He was discharged after confirmation the anemia had not progressed. Few reports have been published on the use of both palliative re-irradiation to stop bleeding from rectal cancer and palliative low-dose WLRT. Based on our experience with this case, we believe that palliative radiotherapy can be useful in treating patients with a poor prognosis
