    White-Box Encryption Scheme Using a Quantum Memory

    White-box cryptography is often used in embedded applications. Although white-box cryptography with provable security has been proposed recently, the circuit size is much larger than that of usual block ciphers. We address this problem in a different way from previous works. In particular, we propose a white-box symmetric cipher using quantum memory. The size of our cipher is a polynomial in input-length and output-length of an underlying function. The security against classical attacks is reduced to the security of the underlying classical pseudo-random function. We show that quantum attacks using the generalized Grover algorithm to our cipher are ineffective

    Identification of Zebrafish Fxyd11a Protein that is Highly Expressed in Ion-Transporting Epithelium of the Gill and Skin and its Possible Role in Ion Homeostasis

    FXYD proteins, small single-transmembrane proteins, have been proposed to be auxiliary regulatory subunits of Na+–K+-ATPase and have recently been implied in ion osmoregulation of teleost fish. In freshwater (FW) fish, numerous ions are actively taken up through mitochondrion-rich cells (MRCs) of the gill and skin epithelia, using the Na+ electrochemical gradient generated by Na+–K+-ATPase. In the present study, to understand the molecular mechanism for the regulation of Na+–K+-ATPase in MRCs of FW fish, we sought to identify FXYD proteins expressed in MRCs of zebrafish. Reverse-transcriptase PCR studies of adult zebrafish tissues revealed that, out of eight fxyd genes found in zebrafish database, only zebrafish fxyd11 (zfxyd11) mRNA exhibited a gill-specific expression. Double immunofluorescence staining showed that zFxyd11 is abundantly expressed in MRCs rich in Na+–K+-ATPase (NaK-MRCs) but not in those rich in vacuolar-type H+-transporting ATPase. An in situ proximity ligation assay demonstrated its close association with Na+–K+-ATPase in NaK-MRCs. The zfxyd11 mRNA expression was detectable at 1 day postfertilization, and its expression levels in the whole larvae and adult gills were regulated in response to changes in environmental ionic concentrations. Furthermore, knockdown of zFxyd11 resulted in a significant increase in the number of Na+–K+-ATPase–positive cells in the larval skin. These results suggest that zFxyd11 may regulate the transport ability of NaK-MRCs by modulating Na+–K+-ATPase activity, and may be involved in the regulation of body fluid and electrolyte homeostasis

    X-ray Irradiation Induced Discharge of Spherical Void in Epoxy Resin

    It is crucial for proper insulation design of cast resin transformer to consider voids and delamination which might exist in cast molding process and/or under long-term operation because of several surface boundaries between resin and conductor. Should such defects in the insulation system exist, it would lead to reduction of the life of the apparatus. In this report, we investigate the relation between the void size and apparent charge of partial discharge (PD) occurring in a model simulating the insulation system of cast resin transformer. It is also important to determine necessary PD detection sensitivity of PD test in a factory as well as in a field. In addition, we investigate X-ray irradiation induced discharge of spherical void in epoxy resin. Physical consideration of the effect of X-ray irradiation on void discharges in epoxy resin was also made.     Kinetics of Deposition of Cu Thin Films in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Solutions from a F-Free Copper(II) ␤-Diketone Complex

    Kinetics of deposition of Cu thin films in supercritical carbon dioxide solutions from copper bis͑di-isobutyrylmethanate͒ ͕Cu͓͑CH 3 ͒ 2 CH͑CO͒CH͑CO͒CH͑CH 3 ͒ 2 ͔ 2 ͖, Cu͑dibm͒ 2 ͒, a F-free copper͑II͒ complex, via hydrogen reduction were studied. A flow-type reaction system was employed to control each deposition parameter independently and at a constant value. Apparent activation energies for Cu growth were determined for a temperature range of 200-260°C as a function of hydrogen concentration. The determined values varied from 0.35 to 0.63 eV and decreased as hydrogen concentration increased. At a deposition temperature of 200°C, growth rate followed a Langmuir-type dependence against Cu͑dibm͒ 2 and hydrogen concentrations, showing first-order dependence at lower concentrations and zero-order dependence at higher concentrations. At a higher deposition temperature of 240°C, no saturation in the growth rate was observed. A Langmuir-Hinshelwood-type growth mechanism was discussed, and a rate equation for growth was proposed, taking into account the temperature dependence of both the rate constant of the rate-determining reaction and adsorption equilibrium constants. The hydrogen concentration dependence of the apparent activation energy for Cu growth was discussed with this rate equation

    Wide-bandgap GaN-based watt-class photonic-crystal lasers

    青色GaN系フォトニック結晶レーザーの高出力・高ビーム品質動作に成功 --次世代の高品位レーザー加工、高輝度照明、水中LiDAR等の実現に向けて--. 京都大学プレスリリース. 2022-11-04.Short-wavelength (blue-violet-to-green) lasers with high power and high beam quality are required for various applications including the machining of difficult-to-process materials and high-brightness illuminations and displays. Promising light sources for such applications are wide-bandgap GaN-based photonic-crystal surface-emitting lasers (PCSELs), which are based on two-dimensional resonance in the photonic crystal. Developments of these devices have lagged behind those of longer-wavelength GaAs-based PCSELs, because device designs for achieving robust two-dimensional resonance and a nanofabrication process that avoids introducing disorders have remained elusive for wide-bandgap GaN-based materials. Here, we address these issues and successfully realize GaN-based PCSELs with high, watt-class (>1 W) output power and a circular, single-lobed beam with a very narrow (~0.2°) divergence angle at blue wavelengths. In addition, we demonstrate continuous-wave operation with a high output power (~320 mW) and a high beam quality (M²~1). Our results will enable the use of GaN-based PCSELs in the above-mentioned applications

    Infrequent RAS mutation is not associated with specific histological phenotype in gliomas

    BACKGROUND: Mutations in driver genes such as IDH and BRAF have been identified in gliomas. Meanwhile, dysregulations in the p53, RB1, and MAPK and/or PI3K pathways are involved in the molecular pathogenesis of glioblastoma. RAS family genes activate MAPK through activation of RAF and PI3K to promote cell proliferation. RAS mutations are a well-known driver of mutation in many types of cancers, but knowledge of their significance for glioma is insufficient. The purpose of this study was to reveal the frequency and the clinical phenotype of RAS mutant in gliomas. METHODS: This study analysed RAS mutations and their clinical significance in 242 gliomas that were stored as unfixed or cryopreserved specimens removed at Kyoto University and Osaka National Hospital between May 2006 and October 2017. The hot spots mutation of IDH1/2, H3F3A, HIST1H3B, and TERT promoter and exon 2 and exon 3 of KRAS, HRAS, and NRAS were analysed with Sanger sequencing method, and 1p/19q codeletion was analysed with multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification. DNA methylation array was performed in some RAS mutant tumours to improve accuracy of diagnosis. RESULTS: RAS mutations were identified in four gliomas with three KRAS mutations and one NRAS mutation in one anaplastic oligodendroglioma, two anaplastic astrocytomas (IDH wild-type in each), and one ganglioglioma. RAS-mutant gliomas were identified with various types of glioma histology. CONCLUSION: RAS mutation appears infrequent, and it is not associated with any specific histological phenotype of glioma

    Vertical oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor with extremely low off-state current

    Oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors (OSFETs) are actively developed for display applications. An OSFET exhibits a lower off-state current than a silicon FET and enables low-frequency driving. We developed the measurement method and revealed the OSFET exhibits an extremely low off-state current [1]. In addition, we discovered a c-axis aligned crystalline indium-gallium-zinc oxide (CAAC-IGZO) which was unique crystal morphology [2]. A display with a backplane formed using CAAC-IGZO FETs achieves low power consumption owing to idling-stop driving that allows an extremely low refresh rate [3].
