A Practical Case of Software Localization after System Development
Internationalization of software as a previous step for localization is usually taken into account during
early phases of the life-cycle of software development. However, the need to adapt software applications into
different languages and cultural settings can appear once the application is finished and even in the market. In
these cases, software localization implies a high cost of time and resources. This paper shows a real case of a
existent software application, designed and developed without taking into account future necessities of
localization, whose architecture and source code were modified to include the possibility of straightforward
adaptation into new languages. The use of standard languages and advanced programming languages has
permitted the authors to adapt the software in a simple and straightforward mode
What leads to loneliness? An integrative model of Social, Motivational and Emotional approaches in adolescence
Loneliness has been linked to many physical and mental health problems, especially during adolescence. From evolutionary, social needs, and cognitive approaches, this study examined whether emotional repair, relatedness need, and peer-rated indicators of relations behave in predicting loneliness, considering all approaches together. The sample consisted of 373 adolescents measured longitudinally at three time points. Results of a cross-lagged panel design found that, considering all the influences together, relatedness need showed the highest strength to predict loneliness. Furthermore, adolescents who were accepted by their peers and whose relatedness need was satisfied activated emotional regulation which additionally produced a decrease in prospective feelings of loneliness. In addition, loneliness has been shown to be a consequence of these variables
Food Anticipatory Activity on Circadian Time Scales Is Not Dependent on Central Serotonin: Evidence From Tryptophan Hydroxylase-2 and Serotonin Transporter Knockout Mice
A number of studies implicate biogenic amines in regulating circadian rhythms. In particular, dopamine and serotonin influence the entrainment of circadian rhythms to daily food availability. To study circadian entrainment to feeding, food availability is typically restricted to a short period within the light cycle daily. This results in a notable increase in pre-meal activity, termed “food anticipatory activity” (FAA), which typically develops within about 1 week of scheduled feeding. Several studies have implicated serotonin as a negative regulator of FAA: (1) aged rats treated with serotonin 5-HT2 and 3 receptor antagonists showed enhanced FAA, (2) mice lacking for the 2C serotonin receptor demonstrate enhanced FAA, and (3) pharmacologically increased serotonin levels suppressed FAA while decreased serotonin levels enhanced FAA in mice. We sought to confirm and extend these findings using genetic models with impairments in central serotonin production or re-uptake, but were surprised to find that both serotonin transporter (Slc6a4) and tryptophan hydroxylase-2 knockout mice demonstrated a normal behavioral response to timed, calorie restricted feeding. Our data suggest that FAA is largely independent of central serotonin and/or serotonin reuptake and that serotonin may not be a robust negative regulator of FAA

Decommissioning Liability at the End of Offshore Oil and Gas: A Review of International Obligations, National Laws, and Contractual Approaches in Ten Jurisdictions
Offshore oil and gas infrastructure faces an existential threat: the increasingly pressing need to address the climate emergency. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change projects that GHG emissions from existing and planned fossil fuel infrastructure will push global warming past the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C threshold, and more detailed projections estimate that “nearly 60 per cent of oil and fossil methane gas ... must remain unextracted to keep within a 1.5 °C carbon budget.” The growing urgency of climate action, coupled with the increasing adoption of renewable energy systems and energy-efficient technologies, may strand thousands of offshore oil and gas installations across the globe.
This creates a risk for the public, because governments often sit as the “decommissioner of last resort. Most countries with significant offshore oil and gas resources have laws, regulations, and contracts that require private offshore oil companies to bear the cost of decommissioning their facilities. However, the legal and economic tools that states use to ensure that oil companies pay decommissioning expenses were often adopted without much, if any, consideration to climate change or the energy transition. As a result, a rapid phase-out of offshore oil and gas could cause a series of defaults and create immense financial burdens for governments of oil- and gas-producing jurisdictions.
This paper provides an overview of the statutory, regulatory, and contractual regimes governing offshore oil and gas decommissioning in ten countries, and identifies key financial and environmental risks that might arise in a “rapid phase-out” scenario presented by the energy transition. In doing so, it highlights areas in which these regimes may create risks in a rapid phase-out scenario involving the widespread cessation of offshore oil and gas activities. The first part of this paper provides a high-level overview of the legal and economic structures that govern offshore oil and gas decommissioning, highlights gaps and risks that are presented by a rapid phase-out scenario, and presents recommendations for policymakers, academics, and industry participants to reform decommissioning laws in the face of the climate-driven energy transition. The second part, Appendices 1 through 10, provides overviews of the laws, regulations, and contracts governing decommissioning in ten major oil- and gas-producing jurisdictions: Angola, Australia, Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States
This academic research focuses on the relationship between the doctrine of business and
Human Rights and Peruvian foreign policy. Based on a compatibility analysis between
those two, it is sought to determine whether the promotion and execution of the business
and Human Rights issue is coherent with Peru's foreign policy and contributes to achieving
its established objectives. To achieve this end, Peruvian foreign policy and the doctrine of
business and Human Rights will be approached from both a theoretical and a practical
point of view so that, later, both are contrasted and we can determined whether or not they
are compatible
Effect of Cattail (Typha domingensis) Extracts, Leachates, and Selected Phenolic Compounds on Rates of Oxygen Production by Salvinia (Salvinia minima)
Salvinia (Salvinia minima Willd.) is a water fern found in Florida waters, usually associated with Lemna and other small free-floating species. Due to its buoyancy and mat-forming abilities, it is spread by moving waters. In 1994, salvinia was reported to be present in 247 water bodies in the state (out of 451 surveyed public waters, Schardt 1997). It is a small, rapidly growing species that can become a nuisance due to its explosive growth rates and its ability to shade underwater life (Oliver 1993). Any efforts toward management of salvinia populations must consider that, in reasonable amounts, its presence is desirable since it plays an important role in the overall ecosystem balance. New management alternatives need to be explored besides the conventional herbicide treatments; for example, it has been shown that the growth of S. molesta can be inhibited by extracts of the tropical weed parthenium (Parthenium hysterophorus) and its purified toxin parthenin (Pande 1994, 1996).
We believe that cattail, Typha spp. may be a candidate for control of S. minima infestations. Cattail is an aggressive aquatic plant, and has the ability to expand over areas that weren't previously occupied by other species (Gallardo et al. 1998a and references cited there). In South Florida, T. domingensis is a natural component of the Everglades ecosystem, but in many cases it has become the dominant marsh species, outcompeting other native plants. In Florida public waters, this cattail species is the most dominant emergent species of aquatic plants (Schardt 1997). Several factors enable it to accomplish opportunistic expansion, including size, growth habits, adaptability to changes in the surroundings, and the release of compounds that can prevent the growth and development of other species.
We have been concerned in the past with the inhibitory effects of the T. domingensis extracts, and the phenolic compounds mentioned before, towards the growth and propagation of S. minima (Gallardo et al. 1998b). This investigation deals with the impact of cattail materials on the rates of oxygen production of salvinia, as determined through a series of Warburg experiments (Martin et al. 1987, Prindle and Martin 1996)
a encuestar.
The purpose of this thesis was to determine expanded marketing mix
