Ultra- and Hyper-compact HII regions at 20 GHz

We present radio and infrared observations of 4 hyper-compact HII regions and 4 ultra-compact HII regions in the southern Galactic plane. These objects were selected from a blind survey for UCHII regions using data from two new radio surveys of the southern sky; the Australia Telescope 20 GHz survey (AT20G) and the 2nd epoch Molonglo Galactic Plane Survey (MGPS-2) at 843 MHz. To our knowledge, this is the first blind radio survey for hyper- and ultra-compact HII regions. We have followed up these sources with the Australia Telescope Compact Array to obtain H70-alpha recombination line measurements, higher resolution images at 20 GHz and flux density measurements at 30, 40 and 95 GHz. From this we have determined sizes and recombination line temperatures as well as modeling the spectral energy distributions to determine emission measures. We have classified the sources as hyper-compact or ultra-compact on the basis of their physical parameters, in comparison with benchmark parameters from the literature. Several of these bright, compact sources are potential calibrators for the Low Frequency Instrument (30-70 GHz) and the 100-GHz channel of the High Frequency Instrument of the Planck satellite mission. They may also be useful as calibrators for the Australia Telescope Compact Array, which lacks good non-variable primary flux calibrators at higher frequencies and in the Galactic plane region. Our spectral energy distributions allow the flux densities within the Planck bands to be determined, although our high frequency observations show that several sources have excess emission at 95 GHz (3 mm) that can not be explained by current models.Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in MNRA

This document defines the facilities, equipment, and operational plans required to support the MSS Program at KSC. Included is an analysis of KSC operations, a definition of flow plans, facility utilization and modifications, test plans and concepts, activation, and tradeoff studies. Existing GSE and facilities that have a potential utilization are identified, and new items are defined where possible. The study concludes that the existing facilities are suitable for use in the space station program without major modification from the Saturn-Apollo configuration

A Comparative Study on Nutritional Problems in Preschool Aged Children of Nepal

Objectives: Measure the level of knowledge, attitudes & beliefs about nutritious food for children amongst poor rural and urban mothers. Methods: Quantitative questionnaire study. Results: The study included more urban mothers (56%) than rural mothers (44%). Major barriers to recommending nutritious foods included: lack of knowledge (15%); high market prices (19%); and cultural influences or beliefs (6%). The study shows nearly 55% children are providing fruit once in week. Similarly nearly 15% of families never give salad to their children. Nearly 16% of mothers cannot choose nutritious food from the grocery store. Likewise 12% respondents lacked food. Nearly 57% children had been taken at least once to a spiritual healer and 16% on multiple occasions for the treatment. Nearly 20% of mother believed eating green leafy vegetables and fruits during illness affect child health. Nearly 8% respondent feed meat, fish, egg and milk during times of illness to their children but 92% do not. Conclusions: Knowledge and attitudes towards nutritious food of rural and urban mothers are still poor in both societies. Beliefs about food practice are still strongly embedded in Nepal. Urban mother had better food recommendation, whereas rural mother experienced huge barriers. Meat, fish, egg and dairy products are not provided to children due to cultural influences. Mothers from both communities have high faith in spiritual healers

Food belief practices amongst rural and urban mothers in Nepal: A qualitative overview

Background: Mothers in Nepal misunderstand the role of healthy eating to combat nutritional problems in their children. These beliefs and attitudes can result in the improper feeding of young children which can lead to several complications, particularly in preschool-aged children. Objective: To study food beliefs and attitudes, and behaviour of mothers related to feeding preschool aged children and key barriers to healthier eating. Methods: A qualitative research comprising seven focus groups discussions of 50 participants in total. Focus groups were recorded and transcribed, translated and the data were analysed using a thematic analysis. Results: Our focus groups identified six key themes related to food beliefs such as poverty, knowledge, resources, policy, environmental effects, and beliefs and cultural influences. For example, one participant stated ā€˜ā€¦many families, around my working area, believed that feeding of pregnant women a lot of food will make delivery difficult, so they even reduce the amount of food once they notice the pregnancy. Thus, I have observed that many pregnant women are being prevented from (eating) healthy foodā€™ (FGD, Mothersā€™ Group). Conclusion: Mothersā€™ attitudes and views appear to be poorly-informed. Mothers from both rural and urban communities had high faiths in spiritual healers. A public health approach is needed to address nutrition problems associated with behaviour

Membrane with internal passages to permit fluid flow and an electrochemical cell containing the same

    Get PDF
The invention provides an improved proton exchange membrane for use in electrochemical cells having internal passages parallel to the membrane surface, an apparatus and process for making the membrane, membrane and electrode assemblies fabricated using the membrane, and the application of the membrane and electrode assemblies to a variety of devices, both electrochemical and otherwise. The passages in the membrane extend from one edge of the membrane to another and allow fluid flow through the membrane and give access directly to the membrane for purposes of hydration
