Exact Generalized Voronoi Diagram Computation using a Sweepline Algorithm

    Get PDF
Voronoi Diagrams can provide useful spatial information. Little work has been done on computing exact Voronoi Diagrams when the sites are more complex than a point. We introduce a technique that measures the exact Generalized Voronoi Diagram from points, line segments and, connected lines including lines that connect to form simple polygons. Our technique is an extension of Fortune’s method. Our approach treats connected lines (or polygons) as a single site

Fibred Coalgebraic Logic and Quantum Protocols

Motivated by applications in modelling quantum systems using coalgebraic techniques, we introduce a fibred coalgebraic logic. Our approach extends the conventional predicate lifting semantics with additional modalities relating conditions on different fibres. As this fibred setting will typically involve multiple signature functors, the logic incorporates a calculus of modalities enabling the construction of new modalities using various composition operations. We extend the semantics of coalgebraic logic to this setting, and prove that this extension respects behavioural equivalence. We show how properties of the semantics of modalities are preserved under composition operations, and then apply the calculational aspect of our logic to produce an expressive set of modalities for reasoning about quantum systems, building these modalities up from simpler components. We then demonstrate how these modalities can describe some standard quantum protocols. The novel features of our logic are shown to allow for a uniform description of unitary evolution, and support local reasoning such as "Alice's qubit satisfies condition" as is common when discussing quantum protocols.Comment: In Proceedings QPL 2013, arXiv:1412.791

Theory and experiment of entanglement in a quasi-phase-matched two-crystal source

We report new results regarding a source of polarization entangled photon-pairs created by the process of spontaneous parametric downconversion in two orthogonally oriented, periodically poled, bulk KTiOPO4 crystals (PPKTP). The source emits light colinearly at the non-degenerate wavelengths of 810 nm and 1550 nm, and is optimized for single-mode optical fiber collection and long-distance quantum communication. The configuration favors long crystals, which promote a high photon-pair production rate at a narrow bandwidth, together with a high pair-probability in fibers. The quality of entanglement is limited by chromatic dispersion, which we analyze by determining the output state. We find that such a decoherence effect is strongly material dependent, providing for long crystals an upper bound on the visibility of the coincidence fringes of 41% for KTiOPO4, and zero for LiNbO3. The best obtained raw visibility, when canceling decoherence with an extra piece of crystal, was 91 \pm 0.2%, including background counts. We confirm by a violation of the CHSH-inequality (S = 2.679 \pm 0.004 at 55 s^{-1/2} standard deviations) and by complete quantum state tomography that the fibers carry high-quality entangled pairs at a maximum rate of 55 x 10^3 s^{-1}THz^{-1}mW^{-1}.Comment: 12 pages, 10 figures, REVTeX

Expression, Purification and Characterization of Ricin vectors used for exogenous antigen delivery into the MHC Class I presentation pathway

Disarmed versions of the cytotoxin ricin can deliver fused peptides into target cells leading to MHC class I-restricted antigen presentation [Smith et al. J Immunol 2002; 169:99-107]. The ricin delivery vector must contain an attenuated catalytic domain to prevent target cell death, and the fused peptide epitope must remain intact for delivery and functional loading to MHC class I molecules. Expression in E. coli and purification by cation exchange chromatography of the fusion protein is described. Before used for delivery, the activity of the vector must be characterized in vitro, via an N-glycosidase assay, and in vivo, by a cytotoxicity assay. The presence of an intact epitope must be confirmed using mass spectrometry by comparing the actual mass with the predicted mass

Isomonodromic deformations of connections with singularities of parahoric formal type

In previous work, the authors have developed a geometric theory of fundamental strata to study connections on the projective line with irregular singularities of parahoric formal type. In this paper, the moduli space of connections that contain regular fundamental strata with fixed combinatorics at each singular point is constructed as a smooth Poisson reduction. The authors then explicitly compute the isomonodromy equations as an integrable system. This result generalizes work of Jimbo, Miwa, and Ueno to connections whose singularities have parahoric formal type.Comment: 32 pages. One of the main theorems (Theorem 5.1) has been significantly strengthened. It now states that the isomonodromy equations give rise to an integrable system on the moduli space of framed connections with fixed combinatorics instead of only on a principal GL_n bundle over this space.
