Higher Poincare Lemma and Integrability
We prove the non-abelian Poincare lemma in higher gauge theory in two
different ways. The first method uses a result by Jacobowitz which states
solvability conditions for differential equations of a certain type. The second
method extends a proof by Voronov and yields the explicit gauge parameters
connecting a flat local connective structure to the trivial one. Finally, we
show how higher flatness appears as a necessary integrability condition of a
linear system which featured in recently developed twistor descriptions of

Investigation of A Neuro-Stimulator Retrieved Posthumously
A neurostimulator was investigated in this paper posthumously. Device was presented to our anatomical gift program. Investigation was multi-fold and contained visual inspection, using an optical microscope, and mechanical and electrical testing of leads and its insulator. It was concluded that the device could have been damaged during implantation, in vivo, during removal, and/or during transportation to author’s laboratories. The damage observed on the lead insulation is similar to that which can occur due to anchoring of the lead and hardening due to oxidation. Insulation stiffness was determined to be 1/10 of new insulator. The results reported here on the insulation may or may not have affected the electrical operation of the neurostimulator
SFT-inspired Algebraic Structures in Gauge Theories

Non-destructive determination of disintegration time and dissolution in immediate release tablets by terahertz transmission measurements
Purpose: The aim of this study was to establish the suitability of terahertz (THz) transmission measurements to accurately measure and predict the critical quality attributes of disintegration time and the amount of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) dissolved after 15, 20 and 25 min for commercial tablets processed at production scale. Methods: Samples of 18 batches of biconvex tablets from a production-scale design of experiments study into exploring the design space of a commercial tablet manufacturing process were used. The tablet production involved the process steps of high-shear wet granulation, fluid-bed drying and subsequent compaction. The 18 batches were produced using a 4 factor split plot design to study the effects of process changes on the disintegration time. Non-destructive and contactless terahertz transmission measurements of the whole tablets without prior sample preparation were performed to measure the effective refractive index and absorption coefficient of 6 tablets per batch. Results: The disintegration time (R2 = 0.86) and API dissolved after 15 min (R2 = 0.96) linearly correlates with the effective refractive index, neff, measured at terahertz frequencies. In contrast, no such correlation could be established from conventional hardness measurements. The magnitude of neff represents the optical density of the sample and thus it reflects both changes in tablet porosity as well as granule density. For the absorption coefficient, αeff, we observed a better correlation with dissolution after 20 min (R2 = 0.96) and a weaker correlation with disintegration (R2 = 0.83) compared to neff. Conclusion: The measurements of neff and αeff provide promising predictors for the disintegration and dissolution time of tablets. The high penetration power of terahertz radiation makes it possible to sample a significant volume proportion of a tablet without any prior sample preparation. Together with the short measurement time (seconds), the potential to measure content uniformity and the fact that the method requires no chemometric models this technology shows clear promise to be established as a process analyser to non-destructively predict critical quality attributes of tablets
Investigating the influence of a powder compact's geometry on its pore structure and optical properties using terahertz spectroscopy
In this study, terahertz time domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) is used to analyze how the geometry of a compact affects its pore structure (pore shape and orientation). By using flat-faced and biconvex compacts, it was evident from our analysis that pores tend to assume specific shapes and orientations based on the compact's geometry and this was found to significantly affect the extracted optical properties of samples prepared by mixing a material with polyethylene (PE) as diluent and subsequent compaction. However, such sensitivity to the pore properties opens a number of industrial applications such as for quality testing of pharmaceutical tablets. A comparison made between the PE based compacts and a set of pharmaceutical tablets prepared from the same formulation has revealed that flatfaced and biconvex compacts possess different pore geometries and hence different optical properties

Quaternary structure of the European spiny lobster (Palinurus elephas) 1 x 6-mer hemocyanin from cryoEM and amino acid sequence data
Arthropod hemocyanins are large respiratory proteins that are composed of up to 48 subunits (8 x 6-mer) in the 75 kDa range. A 3D reconstruction of the 1 x 6-mer hemocyanin from the European spiny lobster Palinuris elephas has been performed from 9970 single particles using cryoelectron microscopy. An 8 Angstrom resolution of the hemocyanin 3D reconstruction has been obtained from about 600 final class averages. Visualisation of structural elements such as a-helices has been achieved. An amino acid sequence alignment shows the high sequence identity (>80%.) of the hemocyanin subunits from the European spiny lobster P. elephas and the American spiny lobster Panulirus interruptus. Comparison of the P. elephas hemocyanin electron microscopy (EM) density map with the known P. interruptus X-ray structure shows a close structural correlation, demonstrating the reliability of both methods for reconstructing proteins, By molecular modelling, we have found the putative locations for the amino acid sequence (597-605) and the C-terminal end (654-657), which are absent in the available P. interruptus X-ray data. On the role of API in determining porosity, pore structure and bulk modulus of the skeletal material in pharmaceutical tablets formed with MCC as sole excipient
The physical properties and mechanical integrity of pharmaceutical tablets are of major importance when loading with active pharmaceutical ingredient(s) (API) in order to ensure ease of processing, control of dosage and stability during transportation and handling prior to patient consumption. The interaction between API and excipient, acting as functional extender and binder, however, is little understood in this context. The API indomethacin is combined in this study with microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) at increasing loading levels. Tablets from the defined API/MCC ratios are made under conditions of controlled porosity and tablet thickness, resulting from different compression conditions, and thus compaction levels. Mercury intrusion porosimetry is used to establish the accessible pore volume, pore size distribution and, adopting the observed region of elastic intrusion-extrusion at high pressure, an elastic bulk modulus of the skeletal material is recorded. Porosity values are compared to previously published values derived from terahertz (THz) refractive index data obtained from exactly the same tablet sample sets. It is shown that the elastic bulk modulus is dependent on API wt% loading under constant tablet preparation conditions delivering equal dimensions and porosity. The findings are considered of novel value in respect to establishing consistency of tablet production and optimisation of physical properties
