Income distribution in Romania
The paper presents the main results of a study on income distribution during 1995-2008 years, which central concern is the measurement of income inequality and polarization in Romania. A set of indices (S80/S20, Gini, Atkinson and Theil, for inequality; Foster-Wolfson, Milanovic, Wang-Tsui, Esteban-Ray and Esteban-Gradin-Ray, for polarization), have been estimated in order to get a complex and robust evaluation of these two characteristics of the income distribution. Estimates, based on data collected by Household Budget Surveys, are showing an increase in inequality and polarization, mainly since 2000 year.disposable income, overall inequality, between-group inequality, bipolarization, group polarization
INCOME OF HOUSEHOLDS WITH CHILDREN AND CHILD POVERTY
Preventing and alleviating child poverty constitute main concerns for the strategies and policies in the field of social protection and social inclusion in the European Union, and significantly reduce child poverty, as one of the core objectives of these strategies. Setting up policies of child poverty alleviation implies knowing the dimensions and characteristics of this phenomenon, the reasons behind it and conditions that favour it, firstly of those determining the low level of incomes at the disposal of many families with children. The paper comprises an analysis of the level, structure and dynamics of incomes in households with children and of the main parameters of child poverty in Romania. Comparisons with Member States of the European Union are provided also.poverty, child poverty, poverty rate, disposable income
Development and poverty in Romania
The paper is concerned with poverty in Romania during a period of economic growth (2000-2008). The poverty incidence and profile before financial and economic crisis and the evolution of poverty in the context of economic growth and of a strong increase of households income have been studied, aiming to identify who is the most vulnerable at poverty risk and to find out if the growth was pro-poor or didnât. A comparison with the others EU Member States offers some reference points for the evaluation of the actual dimensions of poverty.poverty, economic growth, Romania, financial and economic crisis.
Preventing Hospital Acquired Infections Through a Workflow-Based Cyber-Physical System
Hospital acquired infections (HAI) are infections acquired within the
hospital from healthcare workers, patients or from the environment, but which
have no connection to the initial reason for the patient's hospital admission.
HAI are a serious world-wide problem, leading to an increase in mortality
rates, duration of hospitalisation as well as significant economic burden on
hospitals. Although clear preventive guidelines exist, studies show that
compliance to them is frequently poor. This paper details the software
perspective for an innovative, business process software based cyber-physical
system that will be implemented as part of a European Union-funded research
project. The system is composed of a network of sensors mounted in different
sites around the hospital, a series of wearables used by the healthcare workers
and a server side workflow engine. For better understanding, we describe the
system through the lens of a single, simple clinical workflow that is
responsible for a significant portion of all hospital infections. The goal is
that when completed, the system will be configurable in the sense of
facilitating the creation and automated monitoring of those clinical workflows
that when combined, account for over 90\% of hospital infections.Comment: Proceedings of ENASE 2016, ISBN: 978-989-758-189-
Measuring the impact of redistribution on income inequality and polarization
The redistribution, i.e. social transfers (benefits), taxes and social contributions, has an important contribution in reducing income inequality and polarization, the tax-benefit system being the main instrument of the income policy. The paper presents the results of an evaluation of the impact of income redistribution on householdsâ income inequality and polarization in Romania during 1995 to 2008 years. In the first part of the paper the main methodological issues of the measurement are being reviewed. According to the results of the measurement, which are dealt with in the second section, the redistribution had an increasing lessening effect on the extent of inequality and polarization. The social transfers, especially pensions, were the main equalising component of the redistribution over the entire period.income distribution, social transfers, taxes, inequality indices, polarization indices

Today, mobile devices have become an integral part of their possessorâs life. Learning using mobile devices has the advantage of receiving educational content at the moment when it is actually needed, or when the learner feels like s/he is able to study. Moreover, mobile devices used in education can augment the learning experience by delivering further information to the learner, depending on the learnerâs context. However, there are still challenges to overcome in order to achieve a widespread adoption of mobile learning. One of these is the high cost of delivering educational content over wireless networks, especially when multimedia content is transmitted. This research proposes a solution that predicts the learnerâs economic behaviour and takes it into account when delivering educational multimedia content. A mechanism for reducing the cost of the educational content delivery over wireless networks is also presented
