The anisotropic two-layer Ising model is studied by the phenomenological renormalizaiton group method. It is found that the anisotropic two-layer Ising model with symmetric couplings belongs to the same universality class as the two dimensional Ising model.Comment: 10 page

In-network Sparsity-regularized Rank Minimization: Algorithms and Applications

Given a limited number of entries from the superposition of a low-rank matrix plus the product of a known fat compression matrix times a sparse matrix, recovery of the low-rank and sparse components is a fundamental task subsuming compressed sensing, matrix completion, and principal components pursuit. This paper develops algorithms for distributed sparsity-regularized rank minimization over networks, when the nuclear- and â„“1\ell_1-norm are used as surrogates to the rank and nonzero entry counts of the sought matrices, respectively. While nuclear-norm minimization has well-documented merits when centralized processing is viable, non-separability of the singular-value sum challenges its distributed minimization. To overcome this limitation, an alternative characterization of the nuclear norm is adopted which leads to a separable, yet non-convex cost minimized via the alternating-direction method of multipliers. The novel distributed iterations entail reduced-complexity per-node tasks, and affordable message passing among single-hop neighbors. Interestingly, upon convergence the distributed (non-convex) estimator provably attains the global optimum of its centralized counterpart, regardless of initialization. Several application domains are outlined to highlight the generality and impact of the proposed framework. These include unveiling traffic anomalies in backbone networks, predicting networkwide path latencies, and mapping the RF ambiance using wireless cognitive radios. Simulations with synthetic and real network data corroborate the convergence of the novel distributed algorithm, and its centralized performance guarantees.Comment: 30 pages, submitted for publication on the IEEE Trans. Recovery of Low-Rank Plus Compressed Sparse Matrices with Application to Unveiling Traffic Anomalies

Given the superposition of a low-rank matrix plus the product of a known fat compression matrix times a sparse matrix, the goal of this paper is to establish deterministic conditions under which exact recovery of the low-rank and sparse components becomes possible. This fundamental identifiability issue arises with traffic anomaly detection in backbone networks, and subsumes compressed sensing as well as the timely low-rank plus sparse matrix recovery tasks encountered in matrix decomposition problems. Leveraging the ability of â„“1\ell_1- and nuclear norms to recover sparse and low-rank matrices, a convex program is formulated to estimate the unknowns. Analysis and simulations confirm that the said convex program can recover the unknowns for sufficiently low-rank and sparse enough components, along with a compression matrix possessing an isometry property when restricted to operate on sparse vectors. When the low-rank, sparse, and compression matrices are drawn from certain random ensembles, it is established that exact recovery is possible with high probability. First-order algorithms are developed to solve the nonsmooth convex optimization problem with provable iteration complexity guarantees. Insightful tests with synthetic and real network data corroborate the effectiveness of the novel approach in unveiling traffic anomalies across flows and time, and its ability to outperform existing alternatives.Comment: 38 pages, submitted to the IEEE Transactions on Information Theor

The applicability of the frequency distributions had been widely used for the analysis of daily rainfall because the rain had different characteristic according to space and time. Distributions were often used for example gamma distribution, exponential, normal, log normal, Gumbel, and log the third person. This research aims to election statistics for rainfall distribution based on AIC and to determine which one was most appropriate distribution based on the Chi-kuardrat test and Kormologrov Smirnov test. The distributions in this research were searched maximum likelihood value, then evaluated based on the value of the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC). Maximum likelihood estimate of the value was used to maximize the distribution parameters in AIC. Distribution which has the smallest AIC value that will be used for the Chi Square test and Kolmogorov- Smirnov test. Research result shows all stations in the Kampar river basin, generate normal distribution that has the smallest AIC value. For Chi Square test and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test showed a normal distribution can be accepted in the watershed Kampar

Internet allows people to access various types of information, including health information. The problem is not all of the health information that circulating through Internet come from reliable sources. This community service intended to enhance the digital literacy on health information for the housewives in Flamboyan integrated healthcare center, Bekasi. Digital health literacy known as e-health literacy is the ability to seek, find, understand, and appraise health information from electronic sources and apply the knowledge gained to addressing or solving a health problem. These abilities are important especially for housewives since scientific research shows that there is a significant correlation between the levels of mother's literacy and the health of family. Through this community service, the housewives in Flamboyan integrated healthcare center were trained to detect hoax through a simple fact-checking process. We found out that none of the participants know how to verify the health information that they get through social media or messaging application. They were only suspicious about the information that they get if the information contains title, content, or image that does not make sense. This community service has successfully shared the effective and simple way for housewives to do fact-checking process of health information with their own smartphones

PCR-RFLP detection of Haemoproteus spp. (Haemosporida: Haemoproteidae) in pigeon blood samples from Iran

This study was carried out to determine Haemoproteus spp. infection in pigeons in Iran. Blood sam-ples collected from pigeons were examined for Haemoproteus spp. using stained blood smears and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). For PCR, DNA was extracted from blood samples and a fragment of 617 bp in size subjected to PCR using HAEMF and HAEMR2 derived from cytochrome b gene of the parasite mitochondrial genome. A total number of 93 blood samples from pigeons were examined for Haemoproteus spp. of which 13 (13.97%) samples were positive in stained blood smears for Haemoproteus spp. and 27 (24.73%) were positive in PCR. Digestion of PCR product with AluI re-striction endonuclease generated only one distinct pattern for all positive samples, which is indicative of identical Haemoproteus spp. presence in infected pigeons. The results also revealed that PCR had higher sensitivity in detecting Haemoproteus spp. in pigeons

The effects of four corn hybrids, Keynes540, Keynes410, KSC260 and KSC400, were investigated on life table parameters of the beet armyworm in a growth chamber that was set at 25 ± 1 ºC, 65 ± 5% RH and 16:8 (L: D) photoperiod. The highest survivorship (lx) of adults were 0.77, 0.70, 0.62 and 0.58 on KSC260, Keynes410, Keynes540 and KSC400, respectively. The highest age-specific fecundity (mx) of females which were emerged from the larvae being fed on above-mentioned hybrids were recorded 28.75, 21.70, 20.37 and 16.33 female/ female/ day, that occurred at the days 39, 40, 41 and 45, respectively. The females reared on KSC400 showed the lowest net reproductive rate (R0), while the highest R0 was recorded on KSC260 hybrids. The intrinsic rate of natural increase (rm) ranged from 0.1028 to 0.1370 day-1 of which the lowest was on KSC400. The lowest and highest values of finite rate of increase (λ)were obtained on KSC400 and Keynes540, respectively. The longest mean generation time (T)(35.37 ± 0.83 days) was observed on KSC400 and the shortest one (30.67 ± 0.93 days) was on Keynes410. The results showed that KSC400 was the least suitable host for S. exigua
