Estado nutricional e força de preensão manual em idosos residentes em comunidade com baixo índice de desenvolvimento humano

Modelo do estudo: Estudo epidemiológico transversal, populacional de base domiciliar. Objetivo: Verificar a relação entre indicadores antropométricos de estado nutricional e força muscular em idosos residentes em comunidade com baixo índice de desenvolvimento humano. Metodologia: Idosos (N =316) de uma cidade do Nordeste do Brasil foram submetidos a entrevista e avaliação física. A variável dependente analisada foi a força de preensão manual. As variáveis independentes foram o índice de massa corporal e a área muscular do braço. As variáveis de controle foram a idade, tabagismo, atividade física, hospitalização e hiperglicemia. Foram usados modelos de regressão linear simples e múltipla para as análises estatísticas. Resultados: Após controle pelas variáveis de ajuste, houve correlação positiva significante da força de preensão manual com o índice de massa corporal (βajustado = 0,439; p = 0,010; r2 ajustado = 0,062) e a área muscular do braço (βajustado = 0,046; p = 0,003; r2 ajustado = 0,087) para o sexo masculino, mas não para o sexo feminino. Conclusões: Indicadores antropométricos de estado nutricional foram relacionados a força de preensão manual em homens idosos, mas não em mulheres.Design of the study: Epidemiological cross-sectional population-based household study. Objective: To investigate the relationship between anthropometric indicators of nutritional status and muscular strength in community-dwelling elderly with low human development index. Brane-world Quantum Gravity

The Arnowitt-Deser-Misner canonical formulation of general relativity is extended to the covariant brane-world theory in arbitrary dimensions. The exclusive probing of the extra dimensions makes a substantial difference, allowing for the construction of a non-constrained canonical theory. The quantum states of the brane-world geometry are defined by the Tomonaga-Schwinger equation, whose integrability conditions are determined by the classical perturbations of submanifolds contained in the Nash's differentiable embedding theorem. In principle, quantum brane-world theory can be tested by current experiments in astrophysics and by near future laboratory experiments at Tev energy. The implications to the black-hole information loss problem, to the accelerating cosmology, and to a quantum mathematical theory of four-sub manifolds are briefly commented.Comment: 14 pages, no figures, JHEP format, to appear in JHEP April 200

AMBIENTE Y EMPRESAS DEL SECTOR ELÉCTRICO BRASILEÑO: UN ESTUDIO COMPARATIVO DE MÚLTIPLES CASOS

O presente artigo tem por objetivo refletir até que ponto as organizações são influenciadas pelo contexto, dividido neste estudo em ambiente técnico e ambiente institucional, e em três níveis de análise: o contexto de referência amplo, de caráter internacional; o contexto nacional, pautado por condicionantes políticas do governo federal; e o contexto regional. O presente estudo compara empresas do setor elétrico avaliando como os respectivos ambientes institucionais e técnicos foram internalizados nas suas decisões e estruturas. De um lado, olha para as pressões institucionais das companhias; de outro, examina as estratégias implantadas. Nos três casos analisados, as decisões estratégicas e estruturas adotadas refletem as pressões do ambiente técnico e do ambiente institucional.The objective of the present paper is to reflect about to what extent organizations are influenced by their external context, which is divided in technical environment and institutional environment, as well as three levels of analysis: the international reference context, the national context - characterized by federal government policies, and the local context. In this paper, firms in the electric sector are compared to each other to assess how the institutional and technical environments are internalized in firms' decisions and structures. On one hand, the analysis focus on the institutional pressures faced by the firms, and, on the other, it examine the implemented firm strategies. In all three cases, strategic decisions and structures reflect the pressures exerted from both technical and institutional environments.El presente papel tiene por objetivo reflexionar hasta que punto las organizaciones son influenciadas por el contexto, dividido en este estudio en ambiente técnico y ambiente institucional, y en trés niveles de análisis: el contexto de referencia amplio, de carácter internacional; el contexto nacional, pautado por condicionantes políticas del gobierno federal; e el contexto regional. Este estudio compara empresas del sector eléctrico evaluando como los respectivos ambientes institucionales y técnicos fueron internalizados en sus decisiones y estructuras.
