Physical Rehabilitation of Adolescents with Postural Disorders in the Sagittal Plane and its Relation to Neurophysiology

The adolescents aged between 15 and 17 with postural disorders in the sagittal plane, who live in mountainous regions in the Carpathians, achieve less than their peers with similar postural disorders, who live in plain regions. The research aims to develop the comprehensive programme for correcting postural disorders in the sagittal plane among pupils, who live in mountainous regions in the Carpathians, using physical rehabilitation, and establish the links between empirical data of the experiment and neurosciences to develop methods of complex psychophysical and neurophysiological diagnostic and rehabilitation of adolescents with such disorders in further research. The research is based on a detailed observation of 319 adolescents aged between 15 and 17 from mountainous regions of the Ukrainian Carpathians and 94 pupils from plain regions with postural disorders in the sagittal plane. The research methods are the following: an analysis of the scientific and specialized literature; surveys and questionnaires; pedagogical tests; methods for determining the indicators of physical development, functional readiness and functions of the spine; methods of mathematical statistics, namely, the Ruffier-Dickson test, Otto test, Schober test, Thomayer test, Fleischmann test, Sedin test and spinal index, inclinometer measurements. The pupils who suffer from the stoop and round spine have shown a decrease in average values in the angles of lordosis and kyphosis curves; pupils who suffer from flat back – an increase in the angles of the sacral bone, lordosis and kyphosis curves; pupils who suffer from the round and concave back – a decrease in the angles of the sacral bone, lordosis and kyphosis curves. The implementation of the author’s programme for physical rehabilitation has made it possible to achieve a statistically significant improvement in most of the analyzed indicators. Finally, the article extrapolates the results of the experiment to their neurophysiological and neuromedical application in terms of enhancing anamnesis and taking into account post-correction data in subsequent medical treatment.</p

Value Orientations of Journalism Students in Context of their Academic Training

Aim. To determine and analyse motivating factors, which influence the education component of forming successful Ukrainian journalist students and their value orientations. Methods. The main research methods are observation, test, interview, questionnaire and analysis of scientific works. A set of diagnostic tools was used among which were the Dmitriy Leontyev’s Purpose-in-Life Test, which included three most vital life orientations: purpose of life, its eventfulness and self-realisation, and Milton Rokeach’s Value orientations questionnaire. For processing the data, the following analysis methods were used: processing of quantitative data by applying methods of mathematical analysis of statistical; Student’s t-test to compare medians of two independent samples; Spearman’s rank correlation; processing of qualitative data: content study and analysis, processing of the obtained data; quantitative and qualitative analysis. Results. The practical value of the research results consisted in determining modern value orientations and learning and professional motivation of the successful Ukrainian student-journalists as well as finding out that the profession of a journalist can be successful. Conclusion. It was identified that journalist education has a specific character, which should include motivating students to achieving success in learning and professional development. The study demonstrated that the future professional competency growth of the journalism students can be achieved with the development of their instrumental and terminal values. Some student’s success indicators were identified for implementing in the student professional training in order to motivate them to learning and professional efficiency and forming their system of value orientations

ER22/23EK and TTH111I polymorphisms in the glucocorticoid receptor gene in patients with bronchial asthma with regard to the age of onset

The objective of the study was to evaluate the frequency of the ER22/23EK and Tth111I polymorphisms in the glucocorticoid receptor gene (GR) in patients with early onset and late-onset asthma (BA) and to assess the risk of its phenotype’s development. The analysis of frequency of genotypes and alleles for the ER22/23EK polymorphism in the GR gene with regard to the age of BA onset demonstrated a significant difference between patients with early-onset and late-onset asthma (p = 0.035). A significant difference was revealed in the distribution of alleles and genotypes for the Tth111I polymorphism in the GR gene between patients with early-onset BA and late-onset BA (p = 0.006). No correlation was found between the ER22/23EK polymorphism in the GR gene and late-onset BA in all genetic models; also, there was a reduction in the risk of early-onset BA observed in the dominant and additive models. No association was demonstrated between the Tth111I polymorphism in the GR gene and late-onset asthma, while a statistically significant correlation was shown with the risk of early-onset asthma in the dominant and super-dominant models
